    I feel like a lot of people put a lot of pressure on teachers and school systems to teach kids about racism without realizing the fact that these kids aren't going to learn anything if they grow up in an environment that supports or allows them to express racist sentiment. For two straight years I had some of the most progressive history teachers I know of in the area, yet my district still has some extremely racist people. yes, we obviously need to reform the school system and teach history outside of the white man's perspective, but it's not going to go anywhere if people aren't willing to listen.

      Actually, it's not uncommon for me to fall into the full extent of the 2 sleep thing. I'll have a 4-6 hour sleep and then later on, another one that usually sticks closer to 4 hours. I've always had insomnia and it's super common to wake up in the middle of the night for no reason, even if I know I didn't sleep enough.
      I tend to feel better and more refreshed when I sleep like that, but overall my sleep patterns are kinda erratic so I fall in and out of it often.
      My insomnia is far less prevalent when I sleep like this, but not completely non-existent. The extent of modern issues that are mostly or exclusively byproducts of capitalism is so deeply sad.

      As an autistic person, it's very odd when people think that we develop slower (or even not fully at all).
      Most people don't know I'm autistic until I tell them or get overstimulated around them. I was always told that I have an "old soul" and that I was strangely mature for my age. My "chamelioning" which I later learned was masking was entirely based off of Nicole Watterson (from the amazing world of gumball) and Squidward (from SpongeBob). So according to neurotypical adults, being adult is just acting like an anxiety riddled blue cat who is overworked constantly and a depressed squid who is also overworked.

    Tip for when talking to nut head capitalists: Unlike you, their ideoligy is rooted in a false idea that a higherarchy is a natural state of society. While your ideal is rooted in wanting equality for people, their world wiev simply doesn't allow them to think outside of that box. For example, while you might be advocating for race equality, they simply can't fathem anything other than a higherarchy so they might understand you as someone who wants races, other than white people, on the top. They are aware that they are on the top and they want to keep it that way because there is no equality, just a way down from where they are.

      Another tip! When someone says taxes are theft and that things like free healthcare and/or college aren't necessary or possible, you've got some options. A) focus on the importance of such things, like how it keeps people alive(a literal human right) and how education leads people to create life saving medicine or create amazing art. Second option is B) focus on what could be detracted from. Billions are your keyword, tell them to Google to US military budget and ask them if it's necessary. Then clarify that the reason they think taxes are useless is because the money isn't being spent in the right places.

    • @dorarandom7870
      @dorarandom7870 2 года назад +16

      @@brynail4794 You can also ask them why they miss the money they give to taxes. They'll probably say that it's to pay the bills and you can ad "than we can raise vages" or "things like housing and food should be a right". Of course going straight at this point is gonna turn them away if done too early, but done right it might be a radical point that moves them more to the left.

    8:28 I have a theory that the North Americas (specifically the US can't speak for Canada) somewhere along the line distanced itself from almost all but the most profitable and 'normal looking' native produce. I can't put my finger on why but it's odd. Especially when a native fruit is being rebranded as Asian as to excuse how exotic it looks. It's weird. It's almost as if produce that isn't rounded and near perfectly smooth doesn't fit the image that many in the US are trying to portray.
    It's not like Europe doesn't have its share of 'weirdly' shaped produce either, I mean just look at medlars, it is admittedly a bit odd if you're not expecting it. But the US isn't imitating Europe fruit-wise either because if they were then there would be a much larger rhubarb, currant, and gooseberry market.
    Maybe it's because the US is trying to separate itself from the history that the indigenous people quite literally built, leaving many unfamiliar with what was growing here natively pre-colonization? Maybe it travels horribly and is therefore not profitable (pawpaws, most bramble berries, etc)? Maybe there's something else going on? Who knows! This is after just a theory; a game theory lol

      It's interesting how the prices went up where they grow natively. Where I'm at the best prices for pitaya are this one international market who seem take diversity of product as a personal challenge (always learn about a new type of produce every time I go, fun times) I can't say how the price has changed over the years in the states (the way produce is handled like price point wise is a bit nutty) as I've never had one and considering I despise cactus pears (those grow native where I'm at :) ) it's too big and too expensive for me to justify.
      Avocado prices are also nuts, the bigger ones are never under 4 dollars and the smallest ones almost never under a dollar (granted avocados don't exactly grow where I live) but I do however remember pre avocado boom them being much cheaper (but also a bit harder to find so there's that :/)

And that’s what Percy did and he made sure it was done . And he knew that if he became one of those in power he would eventually perpetuate this system which would create more problems for him and those he holds dearly. Harry on the other hand chose to uphold the system of power that made the problem that had his parents, his mentor, and his godfather (not to mention countless others) killed. Having the opportunity to be on the top of the food chain and choosing to deny the power and rather hold the people in power accountable for creating the problem and making them solve it has a stronger effect on us as the audience and also proves the intelligence and empathy of the character more than anything.

The more I learn about Autism the more I understand myself and my needs and now I can reasonably meet those needs," but avoid formal diagnosis because formal diagnosis can put our rights in jeopardy. If a married couple is going through a divorce and one spouse is Autistic the Autistic person runs the risk of losing custody or even visitation rights to their kids. Many countries won't accept Autistic immigrants.
    For some of us that are self diagnosed, we've found a way to accommodate ourselves without risking our rights. If, for some reason, I get to where I'll need more support, I'll have to decide if the pros of formal diagnosis outweigh the cons.

    Taking kids to a drag show is all well and fine frankly, if he were actually right about them stripping at a strip club for the kids then that'd be one thing cause THAT isn't very "child friendly" but like kids just hanging out with drag queens at a show while they just dance and sing normally and fully clothed? Not a problem at all in my books. That's no different than letting their kids watch dancing with the stars or eurovision or x factor or something just it's in drag. While that sign is kinda suspect I see all the signs saying it's an ice cream place so all that tells me is that ice cream place may not be the most 100% child friendly ice cream shop to take the whole family to cause they knew what joke they were making lol. Still not a huge deal though that'll go over most kids heads and the others probably know way too much, more than even that reference from overly honest older siblings or parents or the internet anyway so telling them they can't "hang outwith drag queens cause that's grooming" isn't going to stop THOSE kids from being exposed to sexual things anyway. I mean if a 9 year old has a friend that thinks it's cool to know a little too much for their age like a friend I had and decideds to share it, then they all know. I guarantee it isn't the drag queen's fault if the kids know what that sign is referencing especially if it's an ice cream shop slogan

    I wanna talk ab the topic of the video on 20:16. While I don’t think this guy had any ill intent and didn’t mean for this to be offensive, it is rather hurtful to us lesbians to say things like that. We control ourselves because me are decent human beings and to make that statement hurts a lot of us. Instead say something like: maybe the reason why men can’t control themselves is because they are bad people. Or honestly say anything but what the video said, because it spreads a rather harmful message. Thanks for reading.

    • @aleftistdude
      @aleftistdude  2 года назад +3

      it's definitely weirdly phrased but I think the intent is that lesbians will not harass women they find attractive/sexy. it's meant to be a good thing. I appreciate this comment tho! I'll make sure to look more closely at the language used to describe groups. as a lesbian myself, I don't want to be spreading harmful messages about our community!

    3:18 or you could just tell them you can't touch men. If you let them know you can't you'll be educating them and that'll be better and more progressive. No one knows everything and we need to stop pretending they do, if someone doesn't know something respectfully tell them. We don't need to be rude or assume the other person is being rude, we CAN work together to make the world a better more informed place. We're gonna get no where if WE don't start with ourselves.
    Be kind and respectful to others and yourself x

      sometimes telling men those things can be a risk! saying "no" to men is often a privilege afforded to few, whereas excuses (/non-direct-confrontation) are what feels safer. this is a good point tho! I think posting content like this is a safe way to spread that info

    • @wa11ie
      @wa11ie 2 года назад +8

      this is not the reply you were looking for because, unfortunately, the answers to your questions do not fit in a youtube comment. in order to understand all of this you need to deconstruct these concepts. you need to understand how capitalism is influencing our every day lives.
      many people look to socialist and communist ideas as a solution to the many, many issues inflicted by capitalism. marxism is an early communist theory, a subcategory if you will.
      google is free and there are plenty of recourses at your fingertips to learn about all of these concepts.
      you need to learn about history, about politics and you need to keep up with the news (all with the understanding that history is inherently biased, as it is written by the winners of any given conflict, that news outlets don’t tell you about everything happening in the world at any given moment (partially because of limited time, recourses and people and partially due to deeming information as not relevant for their target audience))
      i know this sounds like a lot. it is a lot. and nobody is expecting you to do it all right now. when you look at the people making these tiktoks or making longform video content or whatever medium they use to express their opinions you will find that all of them are constantly learning new things and picking up new books. there are plenty of these tiktoks that are just lists of books that you can use as a jumping off point to your own reasearch.
      and most importantly, take breaks. politics and history are incredibly draining topics. you need time to process the amounts of information you are taking in. and sometimes you need to go outside, touch some grass and think about something else for a couple of hours or days.
      i know this is not the simple answer you wanted but i hope this helps.

      Graysexual: Feeling ambivalent about sex or sexual attraction. Choosing a romantic partner without consideration for physical attraction. Preferring affection that isn't sexual over affection that is. Not feeling sexual attraction or urges often.
      If this is you, congrats! Welcome to the club, we have [insert favorable hobby/snack]!
      Questioning if you’re really ace, is a huge part of being gray Ace for many people (including me).
      Simply put:
      If your attraction to others is based on anything other than sex, often excluding it, probably ace.
      If your attraction to others includes sex/sexual desire, probably niche.

    19:00 Not a fan of the insinuation here that ATLA is guilty of making fun of hinduism.

    • @charadreemur8884

      I mean, I definitely don’t think ATLA was making fun of hinduism, but I think the addition of ATLA there might’ve been more on the side of the profiting off the culture maybe?
      There was that one episode that focused on Aang opening up his chakras and failing, which included Guru Pathik, but that’s the only thing I can think of for that. The chakras and yoga was something that was shown in that video to have been something profited off of by non hindu people (although I feel like there definitely could be some overlap between hinduism and buddhism in this portion of the conversation, im not quite sure though. im just going to be using hindu here for convenience), so that’s probably why.
      I’m saying this from my point of view as a american of indian origin, please take what i am saying with a grain of salt because this is me trying to make inferences
      also not the most important but where did guru pathik come from. why is someone who looks sort of like a yogi/ascetic with an indian name living in the southern air temple. where are the other people with names like him. how does he exist. the places in avatar draw from eastern asian and inuit culture, while there is buddhism in eastern asian cultures and that can explain the chakra and yoga part that still doesn’t explain his name. how does he exist.
