What makes a great photographer? It's not experience alone, it's for sure not equipment ( but it does help) .... it's vision and passion and you have that in busloads Kim. To hear you speak about your ideas and passion for doing your own unique view of locations to shoot makes me think you have your head firmly where it needs to be. I WILL be one who says "I knew Kim when she first hit the scene...." Stay safe, happy and passionate!!! : )

    Hi Kim.,
    What a stunning location.
As you say, get the iconic images to satisfy yourself and then look for other potential images that other people just disregard.
Awesome images in such a great location which really shows it justice.

Kim, love watching your videos. What you have described in this video is what I call the “modern day dilemma “ ! Digital cameras have made it more difficult to capture unique photos of iconic locations. Everyone now carries some form of camera with them, the only difference now to getting that unique shot is being at a location at “the right time”. Each iconic location has had millions of shots taken there .... but the upside of the modern day dilemma is that because we don’t use film any more, there is no cost involved in capturing images 😃. This means, as you have pointed out, you can now wander around taking photos of “other” things. You can experiment with different types of subjects to satisfy your creativity. The digital era now gives you instant feedback and doesn’t cost you any extra financially. You have freedom to explore many other possibilities 😃. Cheers. Derek. Sydney.

Being a crusty old bugger, I still can't qualify phone pictures as "real" photography. Not all pictures should have EVERYTHING in focus.. give me bokeh!!!! Give me different lenses to make the picture look special. I miss shooting Tri-X at 1600ASA and seeing the killer grain it made, but for sure I am so glad to be able to go out and take 250 pictures in a day with no thought to cost. I WOULD like an 80mp sensor though..... : )

Thank you very much. Yes - it certainly is more difficult it get unique images nowadays but that's all part of the challenge I think. Photography is about personal enjoyment so if you enjoy the images you take, that's all that matters. Life is full of pros and cons 🙂 This would make a great debate topic!

I have enjoyed watching your journey as you develop from taking photographs to being an artist and will continue to follow your journey. I think the need to take the "iconic" shots is just part our our learning and development and looking for and wanting to create images that speak to you is really artistic aspect of photography. Many, nay most, aspiring photographers never make the corner to being an artist and that is fine as well. I look forward to following your journey long into the future. One of my favourite things is to produce an image people would not normally see, in a way they would not otherwise have seen it. The joy of photography is more than just the image. It also encompasses me seeing the world in a new and wonderful way.

Some lovely pictures there and interesting observations about photographing iconic places. I like to do this for several reasons, whatever picture I take is mine and I got it by engaging with the place so I own it in a different way than looking at someone elses version. I also like to get a different take on a place (like your red tree picture) and finally it is quite a good learning experience to emulate a classic picture. I only take pictures for myself and enjoy finding my own locations but I can see that if your pictures are your livelihood you need to keep finding original subjects. Keep posting and stay safe. PS I wonder how your image stabilisation handled the moving bridge!
