41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was hungered, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee a hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minster unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
It's a good question but it should be other way around why waited that long Russia was on the back foot Ukraine would have one the war
Ukraine had a president that _acting in good faith and in the best interests of the nation_ launched it on a course of solid growth and stability.
This leader was too devoted towards improving his country. People wished to be _entertained_ and sent him packing, voting for a _comedian_ who promptly manoeuvred to deplete the nation off its citizens so that he might turn this land¹ into a colony.²
He staged a tragedy. No one is laughing.

I can't imagine what he must be feeling to have to rely on another country to help protect his country and democracy. To be so close to failure and destruction and death without that help must be terrifying and stressful. Good luck, Ukraine! You are a shining beacon of democracy everywhere.
