Thank you, Don. It's been a tough couple of weeks. I'm the oldest of the kids, so I've been doing my duty in helping to settle his affairs. There's a lot that's been done and a lot still to do.

    I experienced both instances...
My father died suddenly. He went into the hospital for a scheduled bypass and passed away the day before he was to be released. His graft came loose and he bled to death internally.
My mother passed away nearly 9 yrs later. She had already been diagnosed with Alzheimer's before my dad's passing. Upon my father's death, as the eldest child I became my mother's caregiver. After we buried my dad I took my mom back down to FL with me, where I was living at the time, so I could pack up my belongings and move to NC to my folks house so she could be where she was comfortable in familiar surroundings. I took care of her for 8 and a half yrs, until she passed from the disease. I watched both parents take their last breath. Neither was easy.

Thanks Steve for this request of Tracy Lawrence. Sorry to hear about your dad. Prayer to you and your family for healing. Everybody can relate to this song because time is one thing no one can pause or outrun. This song was written by Bobby Braddock and released in '96 on Tracy's fourth studio album 'Time Marches On'. The song spent 3 weeks at #1, thus making this Tracy's biggest hit Thanks for reacting to it.

Hear me out. I love this song so much. It is as profound as you get. 3 perfect verses, 1 perfect bridge. They string the story together in a beautiful chronological manner.
But it needs more verses. Structurally it reminds me of "Remember When" by Alan Jackson and this could be a timeless masterpiece with 2 or 3 more verses documenting these characters lives.
I feel like they really wanted it to for radio format, or the writer didn't realize how great a song they had.
I could go on for 20 minutes. You know on Sultans of Swing, where the lead matches the lyrics each verse? This song starts to do that. From Hank to Dylan but back to Hank to tie it up fast. The era they describe they're leaving out 30 years of life.
    Daddy's radio sings Ka-Liga. That's 1953. Like a Rolling Stone is 1965.
3rd verse, sister is a grandma. We are probably in the 1990s? We got 2 snippets of radio. Dad listening to Hank raising kids, probably brother listening to Dylan in his teens? What did sister listen to in the 70s? Probably Beatles or Paul Simon right? What does Mama like?
This song is amazing but the universe it creates make me long for so much more to the story

Nice request Steve, I am truly sorry for your loss. No matter the circumstances, it is never easy. I have always liked Tracy Lawrence and more than a few of his songs. This is probably my favorite song by him. Two things I remember about time in my teenage years. One was the saying “Time and tide waits for no man.” Secondly, my father telling me “Never wish away time”. I am 81 years old and boy are they hitting home. Hang in there and remember the good times.

You could add the passing of Willie Mays at the age of 93. You may remember Willie for his time on the Giants & Mets.
