A friend found a puzzle box on the side of the road in Georgia USA about 50 years ago. She gave it to me and I've had it all these years. I just looked closer, and yes, the inlay work is straw.
If you were to ask me what i thought that was made of *wheat* would not have been my answer that's for sure. this is just a gorgeous box and such craftsmanship as well. I would have loved to have seen how he did the rainbow coloured design
Thank You, @Craftsmanship Process - SUIGENKYO , for creating & sharing these incredible films! I have noticed these craftspeople use incredibly _SHARP_ knives & blades 😯 impressive craft, I hope it lives on for a long, long, long time ☮️
That was absolutely stunning, I could watch that gentleman design and make all day. Especially love to see how the rainbow strip was made. Thankyou 😁🌈🇬🇧
my late aunt was a retired Catholic nun. Made weaved fish 🐠 into a house decoration/ slash umbrella shape it hung in my grandmother’s home for years. It looked like a school of fish neat looking you could gingerly blow on it make em move
It would be nice if we got explanations on certain steps of the process, for instance what's the point of smoking it with sulfur, what does this to the straw and why is it necessary?!?
Its primary purpose is to bleach the straw. A side effect of that is that it also kills off anything living on the straw as noted by another commenter.
Beautiful work, but no wonder it's dying out. You can make far more money per hour working at McDonald's. Seen these mugiwara zaiku boxes for sale in highway service areas in Hyogo and they seem to sell for about 5000 yen. After you factor in the cut from the shop, these guys might be lucky to see 3000, which then is split up. Good to see it still practiced but the younger generations just don't care.
@@bunnygirl8482 I still not understand, is the time when the gras dry included, that can't be right. What does this thing cost to by? It must be werry expensive if every hours counts.
Yea, it's the world most expensive box, if they only made fifty cents an hour it would cost $4380, if they made a living wage, like $20 an hour it would be a $175,200 box. That's probably the growing time, plus the time it spent in the sulfur shed, then add all the hours it took to gather and bundle all the straw.
One other thing here not mentioned is that hours are often multiplied by people. Five hours of work for one person, is ten hours of work when it’s two people taking part.
People are doing decoration with plastic, please check what need of people and create market in home of people. We must promote local artist. Without art country will loose science.
A lot of these people in the countryside do traditional crafts purely to get the government subsidy to "preserve national skills". By doing it in their homes, they can also write-off a certain portion of their taxes and bills. Quite the racket. Considering how much we pay in taxes here, it's pretty annoying. From the METI website: "By becoming a designated item, this craft can use the name "traditional craft.” In addition, producers’ associations and other related organizations are able to receive Subsidies to Support Traditional Craft Industries for such efforts as fostering successors and cultivating demand by formulating promotion plans and having them authorized. It is expected that the utilization of subsidies by the support measures will promote the development of production areas as well as the traditional craft industries as a whole."

Thank you for making this video. Your craftsmanship is outstanding and awe inspiring to watch. From: Kentucky, USA
Amazing ❤❤❤❤
I missed the part of making the rainbow one. It took over 31 weeks to make a box?
Fue hipnótico de mirar. Maravilloso trabajo.
So beautiful.
I really like color scheme before rainbow portion, da warmer colors threw it off for me : (
But overall its a stunning craft. Thank u for sharing
Well that's interesting to see at least :) Have seen it made with machinery but not with hands :D
Straw is warm.
Therefore, products made from wheat straw feel warm.
BeatIful!!!!!!!
Uma caixa dessas tem que custar milhões, pois é trabalhoso e lindo demais. ❤
Patience is the key word. I would have quit or gotten fired within five minutes if I worked there. Beautifully done.
Definitely amazing
Would love to have seen a closeup of the heads of grain
Such mind-blowing talent ❤

I'm thinking it prevents it from growing bacteria, and or keeps bugs from wanting to eat it, just a guess.

ТАКИЕ РАБОИЫ ДОЛЖНЫ ОСТАТСЯ В МУЗЕУМ ЗДЕСЬ ЕСТ РУЧНАЯ РАБОТА ГДЕ
ТОНКИЙ ВКУС
What was the purpose of the sulfur? To kill insects or does it condition the straw in a certain way?
I was thinking it was to prevent bacteria, then I saw your comment, and I bet it also prevents bugs from wanting eat it.
Bleaching.
Very beautiful but looks very tedious to make.
