I really enjoy the show, but particularly in seasons 6-8 they really demean Chandler. Constantly. Every episode. All the characters do it to him. Luckily they tone it down a bit for the last couple of seasons where he gets some episodes without being ridiculed. I really noticed this because a couple of years ago I watched the show backwards starting from the last episode going to the first, and that's when I noticed how extreme it was. In seasons 1-5 Chandler is, yes, very flawed. He's got personality issues, commitment issues, can be awkward socially sometimes, etc. But he's still depicted as a man. Women are attracted to him. He's depicted as "quite a cool guy but a bit awkward and insecure sometimes". In season 6, particularly in 7 and 8 the depiction turns into "Chandler is a complete loser and so pathetic". In those seasons he seems like someone Monica would never have dated and Joey would never have been best friends with. I don't know why the writers did that tbh. So yeah, this is a typical season 7 episode. The first one he can't get an erection. Then he can't smile for a picture. Then he's scared of dogs. Then he sits on Monica's dad's lap in a sauna. Then Ross tells the group Chandler kissed a guy when he was yougner. I think there's even an episode in season 7 where Monica falls asleep during sex. Then it turns out Monica didn't actually fancy him when they first met and wanted Joey. Chandler was nowhere near THIS much of a loser in the first half of the show. The writers even decide he should start wearing glasses lol.
@iss2075 I never noticed it being quite that harsh, but you have a point. This clip doesn't show it, but when Chandler leaves to go for a walk and monica tries to stop him saying this isn't a big deal, and he whips around and says it is to me, you went looking for Batman and had to settle for Robin. That's always a heartbreaking line to me. I also feel like it's a slap in the face to the start of Monica and Chandler's relationship. Up to that point we knew she was really upset that night and Chandler comforted her and it turned into something more. But in this episode we find out that Chandler comforted her that night and she went looking for Joey to get her rocks off. And yeah, you're right. The writers didn't know how to dig out of that hole. So they just swept it under the rug.

Generally the bots are the butt of the joke at the end, so it evens out. But in this case, both Monica and Phoebe are made out to be in the right for lying to Chandler over something they clean knew was important. Bad writing.

So it's interesting to point out here that people always go on and on about Rachel or Ross being jealous etc yet here Chandler is actually pretty ridiculous with his jealous reaction, and more than Ross ever was with Mark. Because Mark was the stranger who actually, for real was a threat to Ross and Rachel's relationship, and later it turned out Mark went after Rachel and wanted to date her, and in fact, Mark did go out with Rachel on one date. While here Monica is simply saying it was her intention to go for Joey at first, but it never happened, and she was and is also sure it would never work out with Joey, and she was so happy that she found Chandler there, not Joey. So there was never any threat or even reason for Chandler to react like this. And yet, of course, people don't talk about Chandler at all. and I actually would never want them to, I want people to understand the humanity of these characters, but I'm just mentioning this to once again demasked the insane hypocrisy of some people in this fandom, towards Ross.

Chandler's reaction is not outlandish at all. It does hurt a person knowing they were the secondary option. It's a totally realistic reaction, if I were in his shoes I would call it off. It would be childish, and over dramatic. I would call it off nonetheless because I couldn't take being the secondary option.
@ya5526 I agree. Chandler's anger was completely justified here. Joey is always sought out, goes out with numerous women and is highly experienced in sex.
An initial reaction like this is obviously justified. Which is expected and infact why Monica didn't tell him in the first place.. The difference is that Chandler and Monica were mature about it and he let it go.. Ross never let go of his jealousy..
I actually always wanted a couple to be Monica and Joey, not Monica and Chandler. I don't care if it's an unpopular opinion, but for me, Matthew Perry and Courtney Cox never had good chemistry. The 'chemistry' between Mondler was forced purely by the writing, and the writing of them was too unrealistic anyway. Too sugary. They never had any serious conflict or challenge, only minor spats. Even when the writers at the very end of the show gave them the 'we can't have biological children' problem, they wrote it like it was nothing. They gave this topic maybe 3 episodes and the reaction of Chandler and Monica was simply 'Oh, that's sad but we are gonna adopt, the end'. If any other couple on this show was given so much time being a stable relationship without real hard times, they all will be proclaimed as the 'best couples' because playing a happy couple all the time is easy and always sympathetic to the audience. And because I prefer a more realistic approach, for me Mondler was never great or the best couple. And also, in the flashback episode when they showed us how Monica first met Joey (when she invited him over for lemonade) - the scene perfectly presents the pure beauty that was Courtney/Monica and Matt Le Blanc/Joey. In that one short scene, they had insane physical chemistry and way better chemistry than Perry/Chandler and Cox/Monica ever had!
I find this comment really excellent and interesting. Never thought about it myself, but now when you mention it, it's true that Mondler was written incredibly dull and unrealistic at times, and also it's true Joey and Monica looked very hot together! Also remember that in the blackout episode at the start of the show, Phoebe mentions that Monica had a crush on Joey when he first moved in across the hall.
I don't know if you are new friends fan or not but Mondler was something starts because of 1998 london audience . Mondler wasn't writers plan . They continue that story because that time audience loved Mattew and Cox chemistry . This show ends almost 20 years ago .
So insane physical chemistry, specially with Joe, who just has sex and then forget about the girl, is the only thing that makes relations really happy and strong???
No . Monica is very loving, and as neurotic as she is , she is very understanding and is willing to beat a few people up if they hurt her family. Monica and Chandler's relationship saved the show .
People are overhyping Chandler's character just because he's the funny one. They say monica doesn't deserve chandler, ignoring all the pettiness and insecurity Chandler had throughout the show.
Monica wasn't the worst, but due to poor writing, she went from being kind, sassy, and a little neurotic to having OCD be her WHOLE personality. The writers essentially made her a caricature of herself.
Probably Chandler didn t remember that, but after knocking roommdoor that night, Mónica asked "Is joey here?"....that scene happened in that episode😁

The only person who knew, apparently, was her and Monica. So this wasn't about keeping a secret that would have gotten out. Thos was, yet again, Phoebe sh*tting on Chandler.
Then why was she lying when she was dating two guys at a time? If she is keeping her friends accountable and honest then why can't she follow the same.
It would never have came out if it weren’t for Phoebe
On this Joey-ous occasion
@russel you are 100% right. I see this all the time too - all of these characters had flaws, acted badly, or made mistakes, yet no one ever calls out Chandler or Joey for it, or very rarely, and at the same time, people call out Ross for the same thing or lesser, in fact. Part of this fandom is absolutely disgusting, biased, hateful, and hypocritical.
But what is worse, many of them seem to not understand they are watching a sitcom, not serious drama or science, and they literally whine about why some jokes were made or smth was written this way or that way when it's all written this way for pure comedy. The writers of sitcoms literally go through every little word of dialog to write a particular joke/ comical situation. So many, especially younger fans don't get it or act like jerks who don't get it.
Generally the bots are the butt of the joke at the end, so it evens out.
But in this case, both Monica and Phoebe are made out to be in the right for lying to Chandler over something they clean knew was important. Bad writing.
Phoebe is my favorite character, but this is the only time i admit she was the worst
She’s done several other mean things to Monica that I would argue also make her the worst
@@ozyvillanueva9277 For whatever reason, there were many moments like this in the series where it really felt like Phoebe was on a war path to break up Monica and Chandler's relationship. It's so obvious that she absolutely despised them being together.
Except for Phoebe and Rachel, i like the other friends.
@morena no, Joey, Phoebe, and Chandler were sometimes just as selfish, as any human, so stfu. you don't remember storylines. Also literally Phoebe is not a hero nor great here, in this clip.
This new friends fans reacting to this videos like these are real characters 😂. Plus you all act as ex chandler fans . Idc , but let these characters and stories be what there were suppose to be .
My personal opinion is that Monica Rachel and Ross had the moments when they were really selfish and they were thinking only about themselves, that's why I adore Chandler Joey and Phoebe much more than the other 3

@@russelconor8704Omg you're telling someone to stfu over a television show 😂 Unbelievable. The fact is, they all sucked at times.
Monica is the emotionally mature one when it comes to relationships, she seems serious. The others have their L moments with partners.
This is the most toxic community I have ever seen, oh my goodness 😅

He thinks he's the second choice of the women he's about to marry.
I'd say his reaction is normal
@@ToCam-fl8ry So a healthy, sweet and unproblematic couple is dull? Okay then 🤣
I don't know if you are new friends fan or not but Mondler was something starts because of 1998 london audience .
Serious conflict? It's a sitcom
I dont understand why do you all hate Phoebe. The worst person in this series is Monica. She doesn't deserve Chandler.
How was Monica the worst character?
Rachel is the worst by far....
these new friends dont get the show at all and i aint reading all those essays because it just a whole lotta bullshit
