  • Nuclear magnetic resonance NMR spectroscopy is a sensitive chemical analytical technique which detects the magnetic properties of certain atoms such as hydrogen and carbon. The resulting spectrum can be compared against a database of known NMR signatures to identify atoms or functional groups in sample mixture. A typical application is to use NMR to prove that a sample pure or has completed a reaction.

I actually was accused of industrial espionage when as a 17 high school student when we actually toured a major pharmaceutical facility in my town. We were taken to the corporate library where they actually had books on NMR and I had been fascinated with the idea since reading an article in Scientific American actually published in 1959. I was so into reading those books the class actually left me behind for an hour before security actually came and questioned me about my interest. That was 55 years ago but the subject still resonates with me.

Thanks for sharing this. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, most commonly known as NMR spectroscopy, is a research technique that exploits the magnetic properties of certain atomic nuclei. This type of spectroscopy determines the physical and chemical properties of atoms or the molecules in which they are contained.

Carbon 13 NMR involves the same principles as proton NMR.
It's just that proton NMR tells you about proton environments, and Carbon 13 NMR tells you about carbon environments.

very good job you have done here, I know it may not have been easy to learn this.

Wow either that nmr is small or older, I don't know much about NMR yet, but ours needs a few steps, and has an automated rotary injector

What a nice explanation inndeed. Bruker has an album of NMRs, where can I see in Mumbai and buy too?

300 MHz refers to the intensity of the magnetic field, so the following sentence wasn't required to be said.
