Sarkanniemi Review, Finland Amusement Park | The City Park No One Talks About

- Sarkanniemi is an amusement park located in downtown Tampere, Finland. This is a small park but it has a great atmosphere next to the water and it is filled with roller coasters, flat rides, and a large kiddie area themed to Angry Birds.

This park is unique. It has so much charm to it and the setting is beautiful. The ride lineup looks pretty decent and the observation tower is ginormous. I would love to visit this park in the near future.
It really is well-rounded.
I'm so glad the reviews are back. I think I would prefer Powerland because Junker Looks awesome, and Pitts Special and Thunderbird look fun too. Tornado and some of the other stuff looks fun here but most of the coasters are clones. I also feel like this park might feel too crowded because of how small it is.
PowerLand has better rides, but this place has the better atmosphere.
Maybe the developers/builders will find a way to make it bigger.
Good review! I haven't visited the park in a few years, but the impression that I've gotten is that the park does need a new stand-out roller coaster to compete with Junker and Taiga. Tornado was the undisputed king of Finnish roller coasters for many years, but it doesn't really have that same wow-effect that the newer rides in PowerLand and Linnanmäki have. Where they would fit it, I have no clue. I think the park is trying to get rid of Trombi, but that spot of land doesn't really give the park that much room to work with. We'll have to see what happens.
And as for Tukkijoki, the log flume was actually designed and built by the park itself. I think that might be one reason for why the ride is so popular among the locals (Vuoristorata was also built by Linnanmäki itself, and it remains the most popular ride in the entire country today).
I'd love to see this park get an airtime centric coaster. I'd love to see a good wood coaster if they could fit it in somewhere.
Trust me a HUSS takeoff and the fairground is insane... probaly the most intense thing I've ridden, it does sounds like a good park
I can definitely see a carnie running that ride better.
I was just about to comment the same thing.
@@CanobieCoaster I suspect that's due to reliability issues. This is my home park and i have not had a single visit there where at least at some point of the day Take off hadn't been down for maintenance. Even personally i've had more e-stop rides on it than regular rides on many other flat rides. This isn't an upkeep problem either as none of the parks other rides ever break down. The only ones that did were the old Jetstar and halfpipe which both were removed due to said issues.
This is my home park and I think it has a decent lineup but I'd like to see a new big rollercoaster bc I think this park needs it. Tornado is an ok head atraction but I think the park needs another big coaster... Linnanmäki got taiga and thats hard to beat and powerpark has a strong lineup so I think the park would benefit from a coaster that would break the finnish hight record maybe even a hypercoaster but I don't think they would invest into something like that but if they take out koskiseikkailu they get a lot of space where they could build a big coaster but these are just my opinion and I'd love to hear what you and other people think of this and how in you guys opinion they could improve this Parks lineup!
I agree another big coaster is needed to really elevate the park.
the park is too small to fit another big coaster. they alreasdy scrapped old rides to fit in Hype. if you ask me, they could ditch trombi or some of the flat rides and replace them with compact coasters
Yeah finally another review! Intamin Invert and a Sky Rocket 2, interesting but very good for a smaller park.
I agree!
This reminds me of Cedar Point, La Ronde, Grona Lund and Coney Island with it being right on the water and Liseberg and Elitch Gardens with it being in the middle of a big city
It definitely feels a lot like Grona Lund between the water and city.
The reviews are back😎
Yes!
Särkänniemi just announced they won't be reopening trombi (the Volare) so I would love to know what you think they could replace it with, my guess/wish is a compact new gen Vekoma thrill coaster
That's a super compact plot. It would need to be something small like a Wild Moose, spinning coaster, etc.
How many Premier Sky Rocket II are there with the comfort collars and how many without the comfort collars?
The SeaWorld/Busch Gardens ones have the comfort collars.
another fun fact: "trombi" is a term for a mini tornado. as we don't get full scale tornadoes here, whenever we get small, "spinning winds", we call them Trombis. they're often no more than 6 feet in diameter, often less, and deal next to no damage to houses. they're also called "pyörremyrsky" literally Spinning wind. "tukkijoki" literally means Log River so you said "the log river log river" Koskiseikkailu is "White water adventure"
& vauhtimato can be translated as "speed worm/ maggot"
I also dropped my phone and broke it while riding takeoff, as i forgot it in my pocket lolol.
last time i was to this park, Hype didn't exist yet.
That's a fitting name for the flying coaster.
@@CanobieCoaster it is!
Which Premier Rides Sky Rocket II clone coasters in the world do you like more, the ones with the comfort collars or the ones without the comfort collars?
Without
I'm planning on visiting for 2 park days obviously doing Linnanmäki but which would you choose out of Sarkanniemi and Power Land if you could only do one?
If you can get there, Power Land. Sarkanniemi is much easier to access if you don't have a car though.
@@CanobieCoaster Thanks I think there is now a Power Land train station so you can just get a 3 hour train from Helsinki and it has a free bus that connects it to Power Land
Maybe that S&S Axis coming to Europe comes to Särkänniemi, because they just removed Half-Pipe, and now Trombi is up for sale. Trombi has been closed a lot this season, i guess it’s having some technical difficulties.
Trombi ran fine when I was there, but an S&S Axis would be a great addition.
The have a lot of Zamperla attractions, are they sponsored by them?
No, they probably liked the product they received and/or got a good deal.
na it's just how finland does things. i doubt any of the parks even know that much about rollercoasters or their manufacturers tbh. not many enthusiasts around here
9:08 was that spider man???
I completely missed that when making the video!
It looks pretty nice
It is!
I don't really like Särkänniemi, no idea why. Might be bc I've visited Linnanmäki close to every year so I have some kind of bias?
But I'm definitely considering going again sometime, if we can afford it that is :D
I had a fun time there.

Tampere is actually the third largest city in Finland, Espoo is 2nd and obviously Helsinki is 1st.
I saw it was the second most populous when I looked it up.
Oh, did you go to the wikipedia list of urban areas by population. The Helsinki metropolitan area includes Helsinki and many other nearby cities like Espoo. When i googled what is the second most populous city in Finland the first answer said Espoo.
i think no one really knows the true answer because like the population ranks flip flip alot between the top 5
Funny how every time i've been to a park here in finland its always been rainy, especially when i went to särkänniemi. Some city areas like tampere feel very soviet with all the bad weather and architecture.
I've had a lot of rain at the Scandi parks.
During covid i think you couldn't buy individual ride tickets. Before you could and I think nowadays you also can.
Ah ok, thanks for sharing.
@@CanobieCoasterNo problem. Also I discovered your channel today and enjoyed your videos!
How much money did your europe trip cost
Part of it was a work trip, so I don't have an exact breakdown.
Ok thanks for your answer
Did you marathon that awesome pig ride? 1:10
Sadly I did not.
How many credits you have it seems like you been everywhere

@@CanobieCoaster GODDAMN
I hate how many people say that this is a bad amusement park, it’s very nice, the staff are nice, the rides are cool, and it’s not to expensive
I liked it.
@@CanobieCoaster ok
I already mentioned here how much I'm butthurt by Huss rides with a weak cycle. This Take Off here pretty much takes the cake IMO. The Take Off (POV on my channel) is one of the most intense flatrides when it comes to positive g's when controled correctly. This here is very very weak looking.
The rest looks fantastic.
I really want to try an intense Take Off at some point.
@@CanobieCoaster come to German or even Bavarian fairs then :)
Not the Oktoberfest, though. No Take Off will be found there. Other Huss classics, though.
The lack of ride tickets were probably due to Covid. I just went there with my friends and we could buy ride tickets.
Good to know!
This park looks like a perfect candidate for a Gravity Group family woodie.
Only problem is space. I could see something like raptor or Intamin single rail coaster if they would remove Trombi
I'd love to see one if they could fit it.
Next roller coaster at Särkänniemi Will be family coaster. Wieland Schwarzkopf plans design retro version of old wild cat model. But i not sure if that roller coaster Will Be wild cat retro which coming to Särkänniemi.
Oh cool!
They basically is half pipe its called tyrsky its the one with the dolphin
Yeah next to the water.
I'm honestly surprised at how positive the review is. Different strokes, of course! But as a local I just cannot recommend this park to anyone unless you want the credits. Tornado is the only decent ride there as the flats are almost all Zamperla dime a dozen and the coasters are either straight up bad or forceless clones with the exception of Tornado. There is also almost no effort into atmosphere in my view as everything is either concrete or a cardboard cutout and all the music is just random video game soundtracks.
There's a severe lack of relaxed rides to take breaks on between thrill rides (dark ride, transport ride, ferris wheel, etc) and there's also almost no shade and water is expensive, so +30c and above summer days are a nightmare. I almost got heatstroke queuing for their at the time new tower Boom, as the queue is completely uncovered and regularly takes 30+ minutes.
That is without mentioning that most of the paving is just concrete, cracked largely at that, and most queuelines are just switchbacks once again on concrete or even worse, shipping containers in the case of the Skyrocket II which worsens the heat aspect and drains any atmosphere. When I last visited in 2019, the only covered queue lines (Tornado, Half-Pipe) also stank horribly of urine. The front of the park is nicer, however there are next to no rides there besides koskiseikkailu so that's irrelevant.
I genuinely would recommend skipping it unless you're rich and can justify getting the credits. Definitely not a full day park, especially if it's at all hot out. Either stick to Linnanmäki, or drive straight past it to Power Park. Both are infinitely better parks, Power Park handles the heat issue so much better even with the less covered areas (free water refills etc).
That's fair they skew more towards thrills. I enjoy that, but I can se how that would be a bummer for families. I like the atmosphere since you're out by the water surrounded by the city.
honestly my experience there was never THAT bad although i do prefer both parks over this one, though i am biased towards Powerpark as it's my homepark
@@Celatra Powerpark is very fun. My only real complaint about them is I wish they had less carnival rides there (last summer there was some random bull ride shipped from like italy just standing there not operating) and I wish they built something else instead of Pitt's, but I love the park itself. Shame it's so far away.
@@shroomyesc i actually enjoy the whole bullfight thing. it replaced the old spinning funhouse and i honestly prefer the bull thing
i agree that pitts special is a waste of space, it's just underwhelming when compared to junker
fun fact about finland: skyscrapers are banned from being built altogether. im not completely sure why but I believe it's to not ruin the skyline with tons of tall boxes and let landmarks like Näsineula and the like dominate the skyline
Interesting!
That's just not true. Helsinki, our capitol, has several skyscrapers, and several more will be built in the near future. There's a couple of tall(ish) buildings in Tampere, and more on the drawing boards.
@@darkmage7280 none of them are true skyscrapers. Even Torni was massively controversial, and Torni is of now the tallest building in Finland.
Tall buildings sure, but not skyscapers
Edit, i was wrong. It seems the skyscrapers ban has been lifted off in recent years. I personally dont like that. We dont need tall boxes like every other country
@@Celatra I love skyscrapers myself, but to each their own.
I also did all 3 parcs this year. funny enough i enjoyed this parc the most thaught the one up north the prettiest. Linny was way to crowded and taiga the only good coaster there was broken down frequently i went on 2 seperate days to it and it happend both times. So not to impressed with that parc it looked nice tough for a city parc.
Taiga didn't have downtime issues when I was there, but I agree Linnanmaki gets the busiest.
@@CanobieCoaster Luckey you it was fun coaster when it went.
hey you forgot tykkimäki and nokkakiven huvipuisto
I talk about the flume.
I'm sorry but everyone of your pronounciations of the rides made me die a little inside. Other than that, a solid review
Sorry, I don't speak Finnish so it was a struggle.
Espoo on toisiksi suurin kaupunki. Ei mikään Tampere😂😂😂
My bad, sorry.
Ei mitään:D
id love to understand how everyone can just afford to travel the world
I worked hard through school and got a job that has a lot of travel to begin with that can also support leisure travel.
@@CanobieCoaster jealous
IMO worst of the top 3 parks of Finland
I'm torn if this is 2 or 3. Sarkanniemi has a better atmosphere than PowerLand, but worse rides.
@@CanobieCoaster no the park 5 not park 3
IMP best
First
Nice!
Sarkanniemi
NO its särkänniemi
IM finnish
Sorry if I got the name wrong.
Would you like to go again to Särkänniemi, and ride again, Hype, Trombi, Tornado, and MotoGee? What would you think about each of the four?
I like them and would ride them again.
