You dont need to be at top dead center to check the clearance. You just need to not be up on the cam lobe. There is much more OFF Cam Lobe area or degrees of the cam that do not lift the valve. This speeds and eases the process. They only say TDC to ensure your not up on the Lob Lift section of the CAM.
Not a pleasant job to do on a vf750 Interceptor. I appreciate your thinking here as I couldn't understand why it had to be complicated by TDC either. After almost completely taking the bike apart (including top rad and pugs) I just rotated back tire in high gear to get lobe pointing upwards for each valve. Yeah, a bit slower than taking the stator cover off, but it was a 3 week wait for the gasket. I figure that in a shop on power stroke TDC they have the cams (all looking good still on my bike with DRP oiler installed 20 years ago) in the right position to do both intake and exhaust valves so it is faster and easier. At $100 an hour it makes sense to do it the easier way as the gasket is cheap for them. This guy is better at it than I am. Took me an hour just to do #1 valves (over and over) to .005. Three more sets to do. More time than money these days so wheel bump and lobes up is the ticket!

Just about to check and adjust my VF1000F2 valve clearances, and found this video really helpful for further guidance in addition to reading my Honda service manual - thank you. My only other comment is, should I adjust to 0.005" or 0.006", or doesn't it really matter?
This should be similar to the v65 sabre right ? Just trying to get a idea of how it goes. Wishing I would've checked the valves when I had the carbs off 😩. Thanks for the video

Hi. Yes RF9 with 6 speed box is good. Ride it occasionally cause i got a couple of other bikes(5 in total now :) ) I'm considering another RF engine project but we'll see how it goes.

It will be identical to V65 once you're at the engine.
