This game had an interesting history. It never tested well and management wanted to scrap it. However they had ordered parts to build around 900 games and when there was surplus capacity on the assembly line they went ahead and built them. Unfortunately distributors were un-interested in ordering more pins let alone a bad game like Spectrum so the games sat piled up in the Bally factory for months until they were spirited off to unseen warehouses. In those days if you 'shipped' a game anywhere it could be reported to stockholders even if it was not actually sold so companies would hide unsold inventory off site wherever they could. In the end they probably only sold around 300 or so of these games with the remainder salvaged for parts and scrap.
That's GREAT info Alaan...I would love to share it when we do another Spectrum video! I would love to interview you if you are ever in this area...stop in for a visit and lunch at Daddypops with me!
I have this game on my Basement. I purchased it from "Stan's Arcade"(Janesville, Wisconsin)in 1983-ish. I believe...Stan got it new, so I am the second owner. It...didn't do well at Stan's; most of the patrons didn't like it. I purchased it for something like $600.00. I thought it's concept was different & unique; nothing like it in 1982, so...I purchased it. Aside from bulbs burning out, I have never had to have it serviced.
i just bought one from the secretary of bally when she was back in the 80s she had lots of games all broken..... battery damage i bought her spectrum for 250 fixed it up it is mint... no play-field wear. i love the game!!!!!!
I just...really enjoy your videos, Sir. I love the way you explain the games and love the *enthusiasm* you portray. In your endeavors. I...have "Spectrum" at my house. Bought it from an Arcade I used to go to growing up. Paid $600.00 for it in the mid 1980s.
As a Spectrum owner myself... I can vouch for it being a great game! My only real knock is sometimes you can higher scores by shooting targets randomly instead of playing the game how it's suppose to be played. I thought it would be a neat concept to actually subtract points for hitting the wrong target colors. I guess it would have been more brutal and more hard to understand.;/
think ive played this a few times but not one of my favourites. your teams work on these machines just staggers me, and I enjoy every video you put together ,they look a fun crowd to be with. keeps me watching for hours as I trawl through them, and (head office) is giving me funny looks, lol. I am a p/ball fanatic and work in an amusement arcade here in Britain, sadly no p/bs so all your stuff brings back so many happy memories thanx so much.
alan p Hi Alan! What a great message! Thanks for telling us you like them! We do spend alot of time on the videos..they have two purposes..one , the video is for the new owner BEFORE he gets the machine---to make sure he's happy!...and two....for the enjoyment of others, and of course potential new customers who may want a game from us in the future! I have several viewers that watch these on their theater screens too...and enjoy them even more!! Imagine my face blown up ona big screen!
Todd shouldn't the slingshots have the single large rubber ring so players get a little bounce instead of hitting a piece of plastic? My spectrum has the large rubbers.
As a teenager, I played this machine on location at a local bowling alley back in '82 or '83. I distinctly remember the game speech being female though. Is there an adjustment to change the game speech from male to female? I know a lot of games had adjustments for the sound effects back then.
@@tntamusements my mom remembers her brother playing a pinball machine with "one more game perhaps" in the early 90s. He passed back in 95 and i wanted to show her to see if she recalls any of these machines.
No leaks in the roof I hope. Melting snow show prove where those are. metal porch roof connecting to the house always leaks there. think a gutter should be put under that area instead of gooping it. Impressive game I must say. someone needs tp app this one. (just discovering the joys of a counterfeit 32gb trinket usb flash stick. (looks like a bullet... really 7.2gb not 32gb sneaky.. slowly putting on videos to see where it loops..

WOW!!! Another Spectrum for folks to enjoy, again instead of sitting unused and covered by stuff in the cellar!! Those DAMN Batteries!
Played this in France during a school trip there around 1988. Reminds me of Tron combined with Mastermind.
The game is fascinating.....it really is
I've never played this machine, looks awesome, and no shooter rod? Crazy unique! Beautiful job on the playfield Steven.
WARRIOR4CHRIST70 KZ4LIFE They are surfacing at pinball museums...so sooner or later you will find one!
Wow that is one cool pin!
very nice machine love it thx for taking time to give us a detailed look at the machine
My local arcade had about 30 machines. Spectrum was the most fun by far.
Some people LOVED it!

Thanks Maverick! Glad you are aboard and hope you subscribed! Spectrum is being discovered finally...and people are learning all its secrets now.
This game is too fun to play, and crazy addictive. "One more game perhaps?" Ok Spectrum, you twisted my arm...
Spectrum looks awesome
This one came out very nice!
Great game. Nice explanation.
You really have to keep thinking. Excellent escapism. Love mine.
Spent lots of allowance money on that game back in the day. Thanks for the memoties!
Glad you enjoyed the video!

You show me ANY table from this era and it's already one of my faves.
It IS a terrific game!

Thank you. I now understand :)
Interesting design, no side drains, never saw that before...
I don;t recall not having two side drains...I have seen One side drain in the past though---can't think of which one!
Going Nuts?
Thanks!!
Love the video
Thank you!!

Absolutely no...only Xenon had a female speech in those early days!
Is this the only pinball machine that says "one more game, perhaps"?
8 ball champ did too
