I live in Santa Monica, and regularly ride all of these trails. This is very well organized and should help people. Now do one for Malibu, including Big Rock, Puerco Canyon, Zuma Ridge and Bulldog!
That's my weekday ride! Not a fan of how busy it gets in the weekend, but it's great to have so close to home for the morning workouts during the week.
Good stuff. There’s still a couple of these roads I haven’t ridden but I feel super lucky to have this network of roads so close to me in Sherman Oaks.
Great video! I live near the west end of dirt Mulholland, having moved from near the east end, and have ridden these routes many times. Gravel bikes are the best way to take advantage of these routes as you have so many combinations and possibilities of linking them together with sections of paved riding. There are some great gravel rides to the west of the west end of dirt Mulholland too, as I am sure you know... :)
Hi everyone, is it possible to do one ride (without getting in the car and drive to the next trail) by riding up and down all trails or are some trails single direction only? Thanks!
The ride up Backbone from Will Rogers is actually not that bad right now. There is that one section by the bridge where the sign says to hike your bike, but other than that it's a great singletrack climb, and not overgrown when I did it right before the last rainfall.
Awesome videos. Curious, 1. Are Trikes/Quads allowed on some of the Fire Roads up there, Parker Mesa, Los Liones, by The Hub? 2. Say a person has a disability, and only has a Class 2 Trike or Quad. Are those (Class 2 Trikes/Quads) allowed on the Fire Roads up there in the Santa Monica Mountains?
Thank you for this video, useful to share to those new to the area. Do you think you can do a trail guide to Kenneth Hanh park & the neighboring overlook connector trail please? That & Betty Dearing/Franklyn Canyon trails(which trailforks say there are more legal trails to ride now).
Originally, I was going to do everything between the 101 and Topanga Canyon, but the options are very different depending which side you're on the Sepulveda Pass. I did shoot some video for it, so probably in the next couple of months...
Saw they built the bridge to connect to the westside but it's not open yet? Would like to see a good route through there, I kinda just find my way but rarely have a direction in mind.
It is google earth, but you can only import one continuous line (as far as I know). I manually had to add Viewridge and the Lower Canyonback area which was a pain...
I think most of the time people dip into the westside to make their way back. The Sullivan Ridge / Westridge loop is popular. I'll be releasing a video this week for beginning rides, but I'd suggest Sycamore Canyon in Pt Mugu SP.
@GBCali, I see your buddy there already has a mask on even though this was shot previous to the pandemic? Can he see into the future? Just cautious? Or is it a dust/smog prevention?
San Fernando Valley is the best place in the world for mountain biking. Sure, there's sone better trails in other places, but there isn't as many great trails, and the trails in others states aren't open year round, like they are here.
Got Huell Howser vibes from this..I love it! Thanks for the info.
Would you look at that!

Funny how I thought about that today....but it might take awhile...
My god 11:02 made my clipless pedals sweaty.
Great video guide! Food for thought.
Yeah. I don't know too many riders that can pull it off, but I should have done Dylan justice and showed him reaching the top.

You do have to pick and choose on the weekends. I'm careful which paths I descend.
Good stuff, for sure the Huell Howser of biking. This is my favorite area to bike as well, glad you covered it! Keep it up!
Two HH comments in the same video. Oh my!
These are my local trails!! So stoked to see them here 😁😁
Awesome man I ride these trails all the time on my gravel bike. So much fun and adventure to be found in the Santa Monicas!
Vic and I went out one day to shoot footage for the trails I didn't have and sometimes you forget how much there is!
Great roundup of the major trails off of Dirt Mulholland!
Now...go hit it.
well done and very thorough.
Thanks. I don't think I can go as crazy putting together a video as this one...
So much to still explore...🙌🏽well done Zach
Can't wait
A great resource, thank you!
This will hopefully replace the number of questions I get about the area!

It's great to be able to mix it up so close.
I love this trail, im a new gravel biker and this really nice and informative, hope i can ride this train pretty soon.
Us too.
Epic video, Zack! I need to get out to Paseo Miramar and Eagle Rock!!
I'm surprised you haven't covered those yet!
the Nike missile site being a good stop for bees was great. very true.
Definitely feels like their home...

You're talking about Malibu State Park / Calabasas Peak area? I plan on covering that someday too.
Thanks so much for making this, great info!
these are awesome videos!
Glad you like them!
awesome!!!
A staple
Great video
Thanks as always for being the first one in!

Yeah, there are times that are better than others, but for those that haven't been out there much, I figure to send them elsewhere.

I'm not too sure. I would check with the MRCA.

@@GravelBikeCalifornia thank you.

@@joeyquick2324 Bridge over La Cienega is open. Ridden over it a few times to get into Kenneth Hahn.
Really nice video Zach. What GIS are you using for the 3D maps? Is that google earth and you draw the lines manually?
It is google earth, but you can only import one continuous line (as far as I know). I manually had to add Viewridge and the Lower Canyonback area which was a pain...
So do you basically back track after a while? Or do you find means to loop back?
Can you recommend a trail in So Cal for a gravel beginners?
I think most of the time people dip into the westside to make their way back. The Sullivan Ridge / Westridge loop is popular.

My backyard been riding there since 1976
I know CORBA is working to add more trails in the mountains as well.
@GBCali, I see your buddy there already has a mask on even though this was shot previous to the pandemic? Can he see into the future? Just cautious? Or is it a dust/smog prevention?
I think most of the masked parts were shot in November whereas the others are mostly from 2019. It's strange watching that now.

Definitely the weather helps a lot too...
"and possibly....." that's messed up lol
No falls? You’re slipping -
Maybe wait for the next video....
