Then, we'd catch Henson & Co. every time they were slotted on a variety or talk show. I was sorely disappointed in how sidelined Rowlf was on _Sesame Street_ when it got cranked up during my high school years. In June of 1976, when I was home from college, he got home from work one evening to find me folding laundry and watching _The Muppet Show._ He changed clothes, fixed himself a drink, sat down, and said, "What is this?" "Muppets! And Rowlf's on, too!" Daddy showed little interest in the musical number, but then a flurry of puns erupted, and he was 100% in. He still loves Statler and Waldorf.
Considering the sinister tone of the original song and Johnny Cash's performance, I'm surprised the Muppets didn't follow the theme in their own goofy way.
