    I HATE tutorials without voice, BUT if they were all done at well as this I wouldn't. Excellently done. No waste. Just the necessary info. Wonderfully done.

    i tried to follow this. i really did. but with the latest blender there are alot of changes. and they domain will not render without baking it each time. and the settings i could follow do not behave at all in the same way. i also have a beefy pc and rendering this is 320 divisions is terribly slow. if you could update this that would be great

    Hi Iago Mota, I saw the 25 smoke simulations video I very liked it, do I tried to make some simulations by myself, but i always get strange artifacts while rendering. I explained more on this question onStackExchange: blender.stackexchange.com/questions/76126/strange-lines-in-smoke-rendering-with-cycles
    I saw that you haven't got any of these artifacts in your simulations, have you got any advice?

    • @IagoMotaVFX
      @IagoMotaVFX 7 лет назад

      Thank you. Those smoke artifacts do happen to me as well. Unfortunately, there isn't a specific thing to do that will completely remove these artifacts. They're usually caused by many different factors. But here are a few things (in no particular order) that I usually do to reduce them:
      1. Increase the divisions.
      2. Scale the domain down, so that it is as close as possible to the size of the simulation.
      3. Add force fields.
      4. Animate already existing force fields, eg: the rotation of a turbulence field.
      5. Experiment with the vorticity of the smoke. (Lower values tend to have fewer artifacts.)
      6. Use Smoke High Resolution. I see you're already using it.
      7. Experiment with the strength of the noise in Smoke High Resolution.

    • @frostfire6701
      @frostfire6701 7 лет назад +1

      Thank you for your answer! the problem is that I have increased the divisions to 512 and the resolution to 4.
      I can't go higher than that, I will try to play around with the factor that you sudgested me and I'll try to fix the problem, thank you again for your help!

    Can I follow this tutorial in Blender 2.8?

    • @MoonshineTora
      @MoonshineTora 3 года назад

      Most of the settings exist in 2.82. High resolution is not available anymore. Instead Noise has it's own drop-down-menu. some values have been moves elsewhere, but can be found quite quickly. I noticed that my simulation totally glitches on me whenever I try to change values or scrub the timeline. On top of that I seem to have a baking problem, since the "baked" animation still needs 0.1 fps during playback. I'm not sure whether blender or my computer is to blame. I can't turn the values of vorticity and the turbulence force field that high, because it blows off my clouds completely. I figured working without them results in a better flow behaviour. The smoke trail looked good and similar to what can be seen in the video.
      However, I couldn't get the smoke flow to work. Not sure if this is the result of an unsuccessful baking, or if my whole software is just breaking on me. I just couldn't get it to work.
      I tried this in 2.79 to see if it works better, and while the workflow was much much smoother and faster, the cloud's behaviour was totally different to what can be seen in the video. They rise too quickly, they fall too much, vorticity is blowing them up too much and the turbulence is blowing them away with the settings that the tutorial provides.
      I'm not sure how he did it, but it certainly barely works for me - no matter the software.

    This is a short animation but still I would expect this to take at least 10 hours to render on my set up. Probably a couple hours to cache. I wish to god I could get over that bottleneck. I don't understand how anyone renders anything when it takes so unbelievably long to see the results. It kills me. I can't even imagine how to overcome this without a room full of nothing but mobos and processors running around the clock popping breakers with the amount of power needed to keep them all at 100% usage. This is why god made autism.
