You nailed it Lance! The biggest problem with making various styles of coffee is the grinder. It’s just not as easy as moving the setting from espresso to pourover and back. Going back to your espresso setting never seems to be the precise setting again, requiring adjustment. I have a Decent Espresso machine and I can do do pourovers with their pourover portafilter, which is arguably more precise than this machine. The missing item in my current setup is a grinder with a pourover setting that works (so I can leave my grinder at its espresso setting). Pourover and French press don’t require the same precision in grind setting as espresso. My grinder is set for my favorite beans for use with my Decent and rarely gets moved. We use a cheap grinder for pourovers and French press, so I’d rather use this money for a better grinder. Then again, one could look at this machine as a grinder with a pourover feature, which sounds great. So, the big question is - how good is this grinder compared to, for example, a Niche or the new Eureka? I wonder if it is good enough for Gevi to offer the grinder only and remove the wet side of this machine? $300? $250?

This is a good question, though I'd imagine people in those areas would set the temp to what they know it could handle, if that makes sense. Before brewing you have to set a temp. I doubt people in, say, the mountains of Colorado would set the temp above 201

haha yes. I actually just replaced the feet on it. I was waiting for suction feet. With light roast coffee, the whole contraption moved so much it was unusable, so I had to wait to get replacements for the feet so they would suction onto the table. Finally getting to season it and use it!
Hey Lance, now that you've had some more time with the Gevi, how do you find the grinder? How would it compare to something like Lagom Mini? Just the grinding capabilities that is. Would be great to hear your thoughts. Great in-depth video as always. Cheers!
Hey! The gevi grinder is awesome. It makes better filter than the lagom mini. I haven't done enough espresso really with the gevi grinder to dictate how it is, but I do prefer the espresso from gevi burrs in other grinders. Then again, only have run about 10lb through lagom
Looks super cool, even though I love doing manual pour overs enough that I wouldn't buy something like this. I was expecting it to be much more expensive too, especially considering it has a good grinder built in. (I'd probably be more interested in this machine if it didn't have a grinder built in, to be honest, though.)
I just don't like everything crammed in one unit because they always end up becoming anchors when one major component goes wrong. Just look how many broken bean to cup machines you can buy online for a pittance provided you go through the hoops to repair it.
Nice review. I think there's a real lack of automated 1-2 cup products so hopefully that kickstarts the market. Imagine there's a market for a cheaper grinder-less version. Curious that they went for the spouts instead of a showerhead. Looks pretty sweet, can't really justify taking up that much space in a shared kitchen but otherwise I'd be interested
Honestly don't think it would not be much cheaper than it is now on Kickstarter, this seems like a very complex machine, I doubt the grinder it worth more than half the retail price so at least I'd guess 400 for the brewer only
The grinder is a 60mm flat. I'd imagine that grinder alone would go for at least $300. The brewer, imo, is worth around $500 when you factor in the sheer capabilities and the fact the ratio 6 is like $300. I think they'd be able to get the brewer to $400 likely.
@@LanceHedrick yeh the value at this price seems great. Separates will be more expensive, some people just have a tendency to keep things like that - kinda like hifi gear. In any case hopefully we'll see more single cup brewers with and without grinders as there's definitely a gap in the market. I think technivorm do one but it's very basic.
Thank you so much! And @hihihi I saw your comment on them not changing things! They're actually already implementing changes I've suggested and are sending me another unit to test with updates. Fast turnaround.
Completely different. The decent has a fixed basket for a shower head..this has a rotating shower. So, not really comparable. Decent is closer to a batch brew type mechanism whereas this is moreso an automated pourover!
I always think products like this are weird when they don't offer a standalone without the grinder, most people wanting an auto pour over more than likely have grinders XD
I just checked, and as of March 2023, it costs $800. Not for me ... I can spend less than half that and get an Ode 2. I find fussing with my scales and pour over a nice focusing chore in the morning, I don't need an automated dripping device.
@@LanceHedrick u should test out a VERY cheap machine, like those amazon basics and try to make them work decently. Would really help us 3rd world coffee consumers who can't invest 6,000 reais [Brazillian currency] (like myself) in a Breville Express.
Great review. Seams like the perfect brewing toy for people looking for a grinder for all the methods. Just that value is pretty amazing, and you can dial in pour over brews?! Not on the market, but if I was, this would be a Solid.
This machine is great. Personally though, I prefer the manual labour of making my cup of coffee - it's like driving a manual stick vs an automatic transmission. I think what's also missing in the whole coffee community is the lack of reproducibility in making a great cup of coffee. In the end of the day, it's not the gear, it's the barista. Manufacturers should work more closely with roasters to allow home baristas alike to re-produce consistent high quality espresso that is reproducible and consistent across its customer base and community.
They've been working with me on this machine and just sent me an updated version based on my critique, which is extremely encouraging. Of course, this won't be for everyone. I enjoy manually brewing, but I also enjoy using this.
This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.
Yes I know that. I just mean to get it to boiling and then pump it through. The boiler may get it to boiling but as it moves through, it will undoubtedly lose heat. This is what I mean. Obviously boiling water would be odd coming out.

Looks super cool, even though I love doing manual pour overs enough that I wouldn't buy something like this. I was expecting it to be much more expensive too, especially considering it has a good grinder built in. (I'd probably be more interested in this machine if it didn't have a grinder built in, to be honest, though.)
Great review, Lance
Thank you, Alan! Loving your series on ECT

laundry machine on the background there 👌
Haha! I'll relay it to my friend, whose house it is lol
Awesome! i would luv one of these in my kitchen! love your videos sir..!!!
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it, friend.
I just don't like everything crammed in one unit because they always end up becoming anchors when one major component goes wrong. Just look how many broken bean to cup machines you can buy online for a pittance provided you go through the hoops to repair it.
Cool machine and even cooler T-shirt.... Care to provide link to buy the T-shirt? :)
Haha! You can buy it from the company I work for
Onyxcoffeelab.com and go to shop!
@@LanceHedrick Thanks man... definitely will shop.
Heck yeah! Cheers, my friend
Honestly don't think it would not be much cheaper than it is now on Kickstarter, this seems like a very complex machine, I doubt the grinder it worth more than half the retail price so at least I'd guess 400 for the brewer only
@@doc8125 true, it’s probably a better value proposition as the full package
Agreed! And yes. None are good. Heck, none of the home batch Brewers are great to me. Lots of room for improvement.
Interested to hear you drink decaf at night. Can you please do a video on decaf - the different types and how to find quality options.
Oh that's a grand idea! How to pick and brew delicious decaf
Great video, Lance! I prefer your videos over Hoffman's. I hope that is encouraging. Keep it up!
Because he’s more personable .
Thank you so much! And @hihihi I saw your comment on them not changing things! They're actually already implementing changes I've suggested and are sending me another unit to test with updates. Fast turnaround.
@@LanceHedrick wow unreal. I wait 1 year + for board games from Kickstarter and these guys are pumping and shipping a machine in 3 months . Wow
They are a big brand. I'm sure the Indiegogo is moreso to gauge interest than actual crowdfunding. Give Gevi a google- they're not small lol!
Love the channel! Are you still planning to make a part 2 of the Gaggia Classic video?
Yes! Filmed it today's took a while to get all the mods and find the time to perform them all
@@LanceHedrick you are literally the best. So pumped about that video!
Thank you! Hope you enjoyed part 2 😁
@@LanceHedrick the new video is amazing!
@@LanceHedrick Also, congratulations on your second kiddo ❤️
nice video lance. easy to see that youve had a lot of fun using this over the past few weeks!
Absolutely. Getting to use this instead of a kettle is incredibly helpful and precise for testing.
Hej Lance ! Nice video again. How would you compare this with the decent espresso pour over? Pros cons?
Completely different. The decent has a fixed basket for a shower head..this has a rotating shower. So, not really comparable. Decent is closer to a batch brew type mechanism whereas this is moreso an automated pourover!
I always think products like this are weird when they don't offer a standalone without the grinder, most people wanting an auto pour over more than likely have grinders XD
Please do a full video of your Tricolate brewing recipe. It is a totally different beast from all other percolation devices
I've got a no bypass video in the works! Waiting on a part i've requested from a company before filming..
@@LanceHedrick Thanks!
кофемолка этой кофеварки лучше кофемолки дф64?
Лучше ли она чем ручные Timemore X lite и 1zpresso zp6
Looks great regardless of the brand.
Absolutely! My only trepidation is because I don't know the brand, I can't rely on previous experience with longevity. Thanks for watching!
I just checked, and as of March 2023, it costs $800.
Not for me ... I can spend less than half that and get an Ode 2. I find fussing with my scales and pour over a nice focusing chore in the morning, I don't need an automated dripping device.
Oh geez. Hard pass
Great video! Where did you get your shirt? Lulz
Hey! Thank you! My shirt is from the company I work for- Onyx Coffee Lab
Really great and fun video, very informative, pretty cool brewer, Wonderful versatility in such a compact little package. Nicely done thank you
Yeah! I think so! And thank you so much
@@LanceHedrick your welcome
Incredible machine, Lance!
For sure! Really cool look into the future.
@@LanceHedrick u should test out a VERY cheap machine, like those amazon basics and try to make them work decently. Would really help us 3rd world coffee consumers who can't invest 6,000 reais [Brazillian currency] (like myself) in a Breville Express.
That makes sense! I'll feel out my Patreon community and see what they think! I buy things based on their recs. Thanks for the idea!
I want it, but only the brew portion...
Yeah that would be a good follow up product for them to release
I absolutely understand that and it is a constant critique they're hearing. Hopefully they'll release just the brewer if this release is successful!
Nice vidéo 🥰🥳
Thank you so much!
Great review. Seams like the perfect brewing toy for people looking for a grinder for all the methods. Just that value is pretty amazing, and you can dial in pour over brews?! Not on the market, but if I was, this would be a Solid.
Absolutely. Espresso to filter. Really impressive grinder, no doubt. Thanks for watching!
Love this machine!! So easy for me to make my coffee with in the morning!
My baby momma!
Love a cool gadget 😜
Haha! Same. It's an addiction.
Thanks for clarifying that 3 ml/sec means 3 ml comes out per seconds LOL ;)
You'd be surprised, my friend... 😐
@@LanceHedrick 🤣 you are sadly correct sir!
So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.
hmm Gevi Vs Xbloom? :O
Coffee council... Would you give this video a 10 out of 10?
Yes, we would
Thank you! Really appreciate that, Ignacio!
4:59 is that a fart? I'm sure I heard him fart.
Hahahahahaha love it. Flatulence. Unedited always.
Nice
Hey Lance!
Always first. I love it!
This just kills all the fun of pour over.

I can’t concentrate on anything but the clock behind you
Sorry 🥺
You can't boil water & pump it out unless you want to spray boiling water all over the place. You have to be sub-boiling.
Yes I know that. I just mean to get it to boiling and then pump it through. The boiler may get it to boiling but as it moves through, it will undoubtedly lose heat. This is what I mean. Obviously boiling water would be odd coming out.
K.I.S.S.
Haha! Oh the irony lol
