  • Polaroid camera's are my new obsession, and I like to fix them. A lot of people asked me to make a video of it, so... Here it is!
I received this camera cracked, maybe because it wasn't packed properly for sending it in the mail, maybe because the seller scammed me. Oh well.
The repair set I used is actually an iPhone repair set I bought off Amazon. (This one: amzn.to/3lC2ByT *affiliate link*) It's the best to use plastic tools, but they might break. I see doll RUclipsrs warming their dolls up before removing the heads, so I might try that trick next time.
I hope you like it, oh and, if you have a service manual somewhere, please do share!
EDIT: The service manual is here! usermanual.wik...
PS: PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THE CAPACITOR! IT CAN BE CHARGED AND GIVE YOU A DANGEROUS SHOCK! READ THE SERVICE MANUAL, DON'T TOUCH IT, OR DE-CHARGE IT!
Oh and, please follow me on Instagram and/or Twitter: @biancatoeps

PLEASE make sure you don't ever touch the big black cylinder. It's a capacitor and it could be charged even if the camera hadn't been used for ages. Either don't touch the prongs on it (it could be lethal) or take a metal screwdriver that has an isolated handle and please use isolated gloves (not latex ones) and place the metal part of the screwdriver on the two prongs, beware a massive flash is going to happen so don't get scared. After it gets shorted you should be alright but don't touch it anyways!

Hi have you encountered clicking sounds with the flash before? It seems I broke mine after testing the flash and it wouldn't stop making a noise after that. I think the capacitor is no longer charging.

First, THANK YOU for this amazing video, I looked everywhere and this was exactly what I needed. Second, I learned an easier way to take off the backing that doesn’t even require the first step of removing the flash compartment at 1:32 or any prying. Plus it reduces any chance of breaking. If you look at the two small square holes underneath the flash (can see it if you pause at 2:25, by your right thumb), you can insert tweezers inside those. Then just angle the tweezers away from the camera body and it will pull the clip off. Then you can just slide the backing off with no resistance.
Hope that helps anyone in the future!

I bought a Polaroid at a flea market without testing it. Bad idea. When I placed an empty cartridge in it, there was nothing. So, I fiddled with it a little and got it working. So I tested it and the shutter worked with no flash. Thanks to this video, I was able to get the flash working. Thanks!

That was a pretty good repair vid. I never even thought to repair a Polaroid before, but now if my flash goes down I'll know how to fix it. I need to find a donor camera for it, so time to hit the Goodwill.

The cartridge has the battery, so I think you need to buy a new pack, or use an old empty pack that still has charge.

Is the donor flash unit still functional? The inability of the unit to reach full change is an indicator of the capacitor starting to age.

Uhm I have the same problem but on my Polaroid sun600 it has red light on the viewfinder whenever I half push the flash button on the side it won’t take picture/ flash. Do I need new battery/cartridge? I was thinking the problem was its flash. It doesn’t give me the red light in the viewfinder when it has no film inside tho.

Any tips for a 635cl that only spits the dark slide out half way? Then when pressing the shutter nothing happens..(flash doesn't fire). Ofcouse im using new 600 film and im getting the green light! Any ideas?

    • @Bianca_Toeps

If you haven't used the camera for a long time, it might need some time to charge fully. It might help holding the shutter button halfway for a long time. If that doesn't work, the capacitator might be semi-dead, there might be something wrong with the ejection hook (I've never managed to fix that) or the motor (don't know much about that either).

would it be best to take a broken polaroid to a service place that repairs cameras or to do it on your own?

    • @Bianca_Toeps
      @Bianca_Toeps  Год назад +1

I think it would be hard to find a repair service that would want to touch Polaroid camera's. If they do, of course, it's great! But they might have a hard time finding replacement parts or manuals. (Even though some are online.) I once took a camera of mine to the Enschede factory (see vlog 2 on this channel), that was great! It's sad there aren't so much places or skilled repair people like that.

The capacitor in your flash unit can no longer reach the appropriate voltage to fire the flash at the desired level. Capacitors "dry out" with age especially if they go unused for long periods of time.
