No other Victorian man could deal with Eliza and her "career choice" and Eliza could never be in love with any one other than William. They're simply made for each other ... and I secretly think that Eliza's father, Henry, saw and understood that many long years ago. And I think he' s actually been "match-making" from beyond the grave since he died!! His. "visits" to both Eliza and William confirm that!! Such a delicious story!!!!!!
