- Is unlocking Agent Smith in MultiVersus too hard? I've seen some of the issues regarding it and I'm curious to know what you think.

Wasn't playing close attention to rifts, just clearing daily missions every so often, figured by the end you'd be able to unlock Agent Smith with a regular amount of grinding, boy was I wrong. Can't believe they designed it to be this sweaty, might not even bother tbh
Y’all don’t understand in the harder difficulty’s it just out right unfair they do so much more damage and you do nothing and the ai teammates get killed in 30 seconds and the ai in the harder difficulty will out right not let you get to your teammates bubble it’s so crazy for pfg to ask of something like this from causual players who put so much time in the game and just want a new character
People who decide to ignore rift during the whole season made a huge mistake, i being grind since launch and already get all gems at least level 9 to play all difficulty.
If you have all day to play this.

If the host player has Reindog, you can just have player 2 bait Megaladog into chasing him whilst you fire fully charged neutral attacks at it, that's how me and a friend did it.
You technically don’t need to do the whole rift just join someone’s rift lobby and do the last boss node with them. They will most likely carry u because ur gems might be low level with this method but it’s worth it I even helped someone get smith with this method
It’s been patched to no longer allow this. Progress needs to be completed. That’s how people have been unlocking Smith through this method.

@@poppinoftenwithlofton6036 Apparently it works if you start at the very beginning. Progress will count. Game is buggy. Currently hardstuck at gem level 6.6 trying to unlock Insanity to beat Techno Terror and Surf’s Up boss on that level. Was able to beat Megalodog on Insanity. Did a whole Rift of Age of Smith on Insanity by joining a friend. Currently tier 18/20 having unlocked Matrix Superman.
I kinda uninstalled the game cause of the rifts. People in the multiversus community would tell me that its a skill issue beating the insanity rifts when thats far from the truth. All level 9 gems abd still can't get pass the stupid 1v2. Well bring a friend. Still couldn't beat it. Im not touching rifts or buying agent smith. I know im going to get clowned on by this.
I uninstalled too none of my friends want to play the rifts because they are repetitive and take hours to go thru. If i dont have friends to play with then no agent smith, so fuck this game, a story mode with arcade properties shouldnt require teammates to unlock higher difficulties
All they need to do is just unlock the tiers of the previous rifts. This is a self made issue.

In my opinion the gem levels don’t matter it’s all about having someone else with you that what I hate about rift mode bc you need high gem levels yeah but doing it yourself makes it hard due to some people not having another to play with.

It was already extremely hard after they didn’t let you play experience. It’s honestly not even worth it to play all of those rifts just for one character. I don’t know why the dev made it this hard for one character
I literally have been on the level 7 rift for days. I can't be the only one who thinks these computers are far too busted. There is a point where it is literally impossible or you need some serious cheese. I've already submitted my feedback to PFG on this. Wouldn't even surprise me if the next rift comes with only insanity and looney difficulty. 😒 I'm on the grind but need a friend to help me.
Yes, most say they either cheesed or played with someone. I highly doubt many can solo these difficulties (without cheese) no matter the gem level. If so though, I low key wanna witness. 👀

No experience OR crushing difficulty
For anyone struggling with Age of Smith (Insanity), more specifically the node with the Agent Smith and Wonder Woman. I will highly recommend having 7+ Gems and using the Black Adam and Banana Guard, Banana Guard will be doing most of the edge guarding and attacking, while Black Adam will be the one to spam Side Special to keep them in check to get the KO's. When you get the double KO, retreat and repeat to push them off the ledge again. Keep in mind it's not so easy as they hit hard and are annoying.
Insanity is so difficult, I can’t get past joker and Harley smh
Hard stuck on tier 16. Need 4 bosses on insanity.
PFG has used a whole bag of "Time dump" content to keep the active player count high and this is no different and they don't see that forcing players to play rather than letting them choose how to play has driven away 95% of the game's launch playerbase. Even after the most recent patch the 2000 or so players that hopped on the game via Steam immediately dropped the game again the following day.
Yes I think that's where some may be misunderstanding.
If you have the time to sink into the rift mode, then you essentially have no problem (that doesn't mean it's flawless, that just means you don't run into the issue because it's negated by the time you have). However, if you don't have the time, or just don't want to waste your time on something you're not passionate about, you have an issue.
Throwing time at something when you have no more ammo brings us to it's impossible to get the character this week.
They are usually pretty perceptive when it comes to change though, so I'm going to assume in future versions this type of thing will be rectified. This was their first time doing this, so there are bound to be mistakes.
I think as a community it's important that we all hear each other's sides, a lot of players generally only think about themselves which blinds the issue because they aren't having it. But that's exactly why I make videos like these, bringing it to the attention and seeing how people feel about it. 🙌
If you can get gems level 7, just ask someone who has completed it to take you to the boss.
My only gripes woule be the need to play with someone to fully complete any rift. As well as the Rift matches that can only be completed if you have a particular skin that is often only unlocked with real $$$. As for Smith I already almost have him but that's only because I got lucky finding ppl to help me in discord.
Yeah, Joker's been locked since day one, and yet he's been a requirement for multiple missions. And how the hell am I going to get anyone to consistently find time to play this, it's clearly designed to hook teens with unfettered access to their parents wallets.
Player first games will never stop playing the "what can we get away with?" game. Its shameless. Them taking fighting game of the year during beta just to ruin the game a year later is a generational fumble.
Love the matrix and it’s a shame because I just can’t grind gems like that and I been playing daily and missed the free beach Harlie outfit because it had some paywall challenges it’s crazy to me that outfits are more than actual characters 😅

so whats the issue with people not playing pve or having to grind?
You dont need all the stars, just the required stars to get the box for gem levels in each rift and the boss completion. You also get gem level for first time completing missions in the rift.
When I was speaking on all the stars, I meant for a node, not the chapter. You're going to have to fully complete some nodes if you want to open boxes. Sorry for the confusion if there was any with the wording. 🙌
I think there is a lot of RNG around how much your gems level up when you open a crate... because I have only beaten 9 rift bosses.... which is all the difficulties I have access to even though I have been grinding... lol might just pay the fighter currency tbh, I'm fine with them incentivising a mode but rifts aren't THAT fun and if I am still less than half way... I might just give up.
Did the dailies yesterday after this comment, didn't even go up 0.1 of a gem level... so yeah I guess I'll just buy Smith with Fighter Currency and I wasted my time playing Rifts from launch.
I'm only two away from unlocking Smith after beating easy of the new rift today, but I'm at a roadblock with one of the nodes with Smith and Wonder Woman and the reflecting damage. I swear it feels like no one playtested that to see if it was feasible, and I'm playing with gems level 8 and 9 - over the recommended level for Insanity. And it especially sucks that there was just no communication about Crushing getting removed, especially after they did the same with Experienced. And even if I beat it I won't be able to unlock him early until next week anyway, so I'm considering just waiting to get him at Season 2, if at all at this point.
(I don't even want to attempt Looney after seeing how bs some of these get on Insanity or even Crushing tbh)
And speaking of Season 2, if this is still how the rifts are structured going into that, then that'll pretty much kill my interest for the mode. It sucks because I really like rifts on paper and think they can be fun, but it'll feel really backwards if every season it just gets to a point where new rifts can only be played on either baby mode or teeth-pulling difficulty.
I was wondering if gems change/reset. I think it'd be wise for new players?

The only way I beat it was through straight cheese. There are two ways. One way is using Shaggy, you have to break the wall on the haunted mansion and jump to the top of the map and away from the stage and charge up, the Ai won't attack you if you are far enough away. When you are charged up, you fall back to the stage and as you fall down you hit them with your charged up kick. It has super armor so it will always hit. You just repeat that until you kill them enough. Or you can be jake, stretch to near the top of the map off stage enough, and then as you are falling down you try to eat both of them and suicide. That one worked for me. Hope you can beat it
Rifts are too grindy and difficult for 0 reason.
You only need 75% of the stars in the rift to get the rift cauldron. Also, if you have a second player, the rift is really easy
I have all gems lv 9 and this smith rift was hard at least the smith/wonder women one was horrible on insanity

what is the best way to get your gem level up
Dailies and getting as many stars as possible to open the boxes on the bottom right of the screen.
I should be having him right now, but when I beat one of the riffs it didn’t give me the rewards so I’m stuck at 19 and they only gave out two riffs to complete insanity. Has one mission before the easier missions in the boss comes where you fight agent Smith, and wonder woman. If you’re playing by yourself, it has like a life steal thing or something and it’s almost impossible to do by yourself It’s like what do I do now I have to wait another day. Well I see the streamers have him no issue. Is this going to affect me getting the skin when I do 30 of them they need to fix it.
And I did it solo 😂

Im over leveled... 889 and there is some missions that are still really hard
And that advanced difficulty it's still unavailable on some rifts
As someone who doesn't want to impose this on my friends I'm slowly gaining gems through dailies, and yeah this isn't happening, I feel like I need at least gem level 6 to compete with some of the crushing battles, and it's insane they cut experienced from sevral levels and even crushing from age of smith! It's just completely non viable.
I'll admit a lot of this comes down to skill, but when I'm dealing chip damage to enemies who constantly tag team and immobilize me, while extra damage, it seems kind of rigged.

I honestly got lucky, i happened to have gained the most amount of gems in the green category, i had 9 9 9, so i was able to solo the last rift required. But in some, i required help, the 2v1 missions on insanity is plain stupid. Thing is, i've seen people remind the community that the game is free to play and they are ''giving'' away a brand new character, however, to design the rifts to hit such a massive wall right at the end is kinda cruel
U can get someone to carry u at gem lvl 10 just do the boss and it counts
I was told it patched a day or two ago. Seems Player First noticed players are either cheesing or doing that method. I don't think they mind the cheese (just part of the game), but they don't want players cheating basically.

You dont need every single star to complete the boxes. While i do agree playing with a friend makes the actual fights easier. Completing the boxes in all the challenges has given me a weird mix kf gems where some are 7 or 8 and some are level 10
I'm guessing it's a case by case basis. The way you're explaining I know some people who don't have anywhere close to 10 but did exactly what you did. 🤔

I'm seeing Agent Smith in lots of PvP. Clearly a lot of people have the time to grind. Even if most people don't have the time, clearly enough people do.

Very very scummy of them to lock away Crushing difficulty with the most recent rift. Nowhere does it say Crushing would not be available in later season rifts, unlike Experienced, so I think it was a last-minute middle finger to the grinders - they REALLY want you to spend money on either gems or to unlock Agent Smith instead of grinding. Jokes on them though, I got Agent Smith yesterday entirely F2P. Hopefully they do better next season and learn from their pitiful mistakes.

The worst part is that not only is it locked behind the hardest difficulty, it's locked behind *beating* the hardest difficulty. I don't know if any of you have played the current highest difficulty, but going in with minimum gem level is no cakewalk, having to chip away at super damage resistant enemies while each of their individual swings does 50% isn't much fun.
And the kicker? You have limited daily continues to get all the way to the boss. Once you're out you've got to wait until the next day or pony up some cash to buy some more continues. I'm fine with the stuff *after* smith requiring insane rifts to get, but smith shouldn't have required it.
Edit: Alright, so apparently they removed the lives system in a recent patch. That makes this *so much* less scummy. Still sucks about the gem requirement though.

Edit: So apparently the lives system was removed. Only evidence I have for it is a reddit post from 6 days ago saying they've been pulled. Thank god.

@@poppinoftenwithlofton6036 It was going to be on Looney difficulty only. Your damage from each match was set to carry over and you were going to have limited lives.
I guess the only reason it never made it into the patch notes is because technically Looney difficulty wasn't in the game yet so all they really did was change the description text.

Nah bro I have had gem level 9 for a few weeks now. Got agent smith yesterday only a few hours after he released
I have a few gem level 10’s and the guy I play with has a few gem level 11’s. Like the people who aren’t even good at the game keep complaining and ruining it for the ones that are
I'm not sure being good or bad at the game comes into play with a PvE mode. 🤔 Rift mode is what's known as a "Stat Stick". If you have the stats you win and if you don't you won't.
@@poppinoftenwithlofton6036yeah but they buffed the recent rifts (specifically the 2v1’s) and nerfed key features of the looney difficulty after people started complaining - only a matter of time before they nerf the rifts because people “couldn’t beat it”
Which in turn may be a good thing. Games that follow the "you're just bad" or "if you don't like it, don't play our game" approach ends up dying. As a developer of any game, if you want players to play, you'll have to understand their point of view and figure out a compromise. Alienating players just causes your game to eventually lose service as a live service game.
People in life (even when not talking about games) voice their concerns because something is wrong. In order for changes to be made those people needed to voice their concerns. That's how we have a lot of the freedom we do today. 🙌
I enjoyed the rifts once they got harder and today getting smith was a breeze. Honestly anticlimactic difficulty.
I know there wasn't much information at the time on grinding gems, but if we all knew how to grind properly we would all have agent smith today, its really because we didn't grind to unlock him, and thts our fault🤷🏽♂️ no complaint is gonna make up for ur slack, and if u didnt grind correctly then grab a friend or a willing random
They set it up perfectly so each rift from beginning to end would be a build up in difficulty making a couple of the last rifts needed pretty hard in order to unlock agent smith
If you really”put a lot of effort into rifts” you should already have tier 7 gems or be extremely close. This actually isn’t a big issue and also you don’t need to get every star on every node for clarification
