Yay I'm excited for this. I think people know a lot about England but not enough about the Scots, myself included. A perfect chance to brush up on that history.
Spain would be interesting because I’ve always been confused how all the little nations on the Iberian peninsula came together in to one country (well, technically two countries). I took Western Civilizations in college, but they kind of ignored the Iberian peninsula and didn’t seem to consider it part of Western Europe until Ferdinand and Isabella started playing a role in world exploration.
I love how some Picts were like “yeah let’s paint our bodies and go fight the Romans butt naked” and the Romans were like “oh hell no, we didn’t sign up for this shit”
There's a Roman writer who recorded some of the Gauls fought naked. Some of the perceived Gauls were actually Britons. This was Caesars justification for invading Britain. Also why, when he pulled up on the white cliffs of Dover, the Britons were on top of the cliffs waiting for them.
After this series on Scottish royalty you should deffo do ones on the histories and royalties/nobilities of Wales and Ireland. They very rarely get taught in schools and stuff.
A few months ago my german parents celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with an organised bus tour through Scotland (almost two weeks long). They got incredibly lucky with the weather and to this day they keep fawning about the rugged beauty of this country ^^ Can't wait for the next parts of your tour through scottish history :)
Enjoy your trip to my country beautiful Scotland, as a scot I gave visited most of the places you will go to. Edinburgh Castle is awesome when in Edinburgh try and visit Mary Kings close which is underground it is so interesting and Eilean Donan Castle is where they filmed highlander the movie, I took my children there about 10yrs ago they loved it and got their pictures taken holding the actual swords and shields you guys ate in for a real treat visiting my homeland welcome to Scotland guys much love Arlene from Bonnie Dundee Scotland xoxoxo
Thank you so much for educating us and entertaining us, Lindsay. Scotland, and all of the UK is so special and the history of the people so rich, but sadly it remains mostly a mystery what our ancestors went through. Thank you for breathing life back into them.
The Pict Lady you have featured around 1:46 on the far right - I have her framed on my wall 😊 always been fascinated by them as a heavily tattooed person myself.
I learned so much from watching your videos my friends and family are shocked whenever I bring up something from the past and it happens to be something that I've learned for you
I never learned most of this. I learned some of the bits about England when I took Western Civ in college (I’m from the States and when I was in school, world history was not taught much or emphasized at all), and I picked up other bits about this part of English history in random places on my own. But the only Scottish history I’ve ever learned from this era is Hadrian’s Wall, and that was covered in _Art History_ of all classes. I’d never even heard of Antonine Wall until now, let alone about the Kings of Scotland. I just had a vague idea that the Picts lived in northern Britain somewhere and Dal Riata was a term that had to do with that area, but I couldn’t have told you if it was a place, a language, a people, or a person. I might have to watch this a couple times to learn it all.
I'm so excited for this series! And the travel! I'm certain you're a phenomenal travel companion and guide. I do plan a return to the mother country, some day. Your companions will be in for a treat! Looking forward for this whole series.
I wonder how many descendants exist, but I just recently found through research that Kenneth is my 38th great-grandfather. Thank you for this series. I am watching it now to learn more.
I love watching your history videos . I have always wanted to learn more about Scotland history. Thank for all the hard work you put in to all your videos.
Thank you for this video. I'm descended from Kenneth MacApin four times and each time I found information it was different. I can tell at least one person was very confused.
I wish I could understand Bruce. I watch multiple history channels but find his accent too difficult to understand. Lindsey is clear and perfectly interesting.
After this series, can you do a playlist of Scottish consorts. Also if you are doing this, can you also make playlists of other European and Asian monarchs and consorts?
O hEachaidh Hoy, Haughey, Hoey, Tuatha De Danann, Clanna De Dad, Dal Fiatach Dynasty, The Darini, Red Branch, also Hoy Island Orkney Island, Old Norse Haey, my ancestors, culture, and descendants, very much enjoyed, all the very best, health and happiness.
This was so interesting. I am descended from Crinan, Abbott of Dunkeld and Princess Bethoc. I'm also descended from Alfred the Great. He's my 45th great grandfather. I have read 'Lion in the North ' by John Prebble, which is very good, but doesn't go into such detail about the lives and deaths of the early Scottish kings or mention any of their queens. Such a pity that so many women, whether royal or ordinary don't even get their names entered into family trees.
Girl you are such a born storyteller. I can literally listen you talk about grass grow and be captivated 🥰🥰
I know right? She's awesome 😊
Is this a joke….the narration is abysmal

I’m loving the maps on this one.
Same!
Maps help especially for people who don't come from Scotland, England, Ireland or Wales. Keep them up please
Ditto!

Yes! I've wanted to know more for ages but finding sources is so difficult for those of us who aren't professional researchers 😭
"He had no surviving sons. Only three daughters. So he married them off in the hopes one would produce a grandson."
Henry VIII: You can do that?!
Yeah… if only Henry knew he had that option lol So many women’s lives spared…
Heehee😂
Thank you, I just had to clean spit coffee off my monitor.

And so many men's lives too.
I love these series!! Maybe Kings and Queens of Spain next? 👀🤞
Omg yes. Then France. I love these videos.

Yeah Spain would be good!
Si. Please!😊
@@Annie_Annie__Not technically, we really are two countries… And Portugal united over three hundred years before Spain, too…
I just happen to be in the middle of reading a book on the queens of Scotland, so this is great timing.
Can you tell me the title of your book? I love history.
I’d like to know the name of the book as well!

You manage to pack SO much information into short videos. It’s incredible! I often have to rewind because I don’t want to miss a thing lol

I now see why George RR Martin described Scottish history as particularly bloody. Good God, they did not mess around.
