- During the 2010 Brisbane Ekka, Queensland Rail ran special steam train services to and from the Ekka.
The steam locomotive used was DD17 1051, affectionatly known to many as "The Blue Baby"
The first two minutes of the video feature the English Electric 1620 hauling the special service following a fault with the steam locomotive.
After the Ekka runs were completed, the locomotive's boiler was condemed and The Blue Baby was placed into storage where work on a new boiler as at April 2012 is starting to take shape in the Ipswich Railway Workshops.

June 10th 2021, still waiting for 1051
I wouldn't expect to see it in steam ever again.
What a great way to get to & from the Ekka!
Hi guys, I'm glad to hear that you enjoy these videos.
Any reason why the boiler was condemned?
Hi Paul, Great video mate and some very nice shots.
Back in 1950 something, I saw DD17 1051 de-rail inside the old Central Railway Station whilst she was being switched from one end of the carriages to the other.
Tauren Lea They have started rebuilding the blue baby
Is it me or the blue baby looks like Thomas
¡Yes! That is Thomas
Is DD17 1051 back in service yet?
No, The Blue Baby is still scattered all over the floor at the Ipswich Workshops, however the new boiler is almost close to completion.
When you say ''scattered'', does this mean that the loco has been pulled apart?
Taurean Lea Yes that is correct.
How very sad :'-(
According to 2019. Sadly, they’ve halted work because no one wants to work on the trains and their are no more blacksmiths to make the parts.
