Very wise words on feedback/constructive criticism, William! I worked a long time in the media as CG Artist, and it was absolutely critical for employment prospects to expose ourselves to the harshest criticism we could get. "Be brutal" being a common term, but by itself is not enough.. most people were a bit of a let-down in this regard. I found that it helps to make pacts with others doing the same, to be as brutal as possible, but you really have to drive the point home to get anywhere. Sounds like you're on the right track with the feedback from your missus too though. First impressions reported properly are often surprising, disappointing, and useful.

Holy shit, the 'It's nice to just give up'-thing made me laugh so hard. It's a good piece of advice regardless of how shit people feel after getting the kind of advice.

honestly what you were talking about at around 35:00 makes sense. encouraging more persistence and linking back to previous tweets instead of posting a picture of a tweet on another platform would be good. however, as it is i just avoid any tweet posts on other social media because i don't want to make a twitter account
Probably already been commented a hundred times now but Linus Tech Tips made an amazing April Fools video that was literally just ad read after ad read after ad read for 20 minutes it was beautiful
One of the funniest things to me about Twitter Blue is one of the advertised features is half as many ads, like you're still getting ads, Elon just wants to make sure their ads are still worth it to buy, can't just completely cut off a set of people from advertisers.
I think some of the things Elon was offering, like seeing less ads, would be good ideas (blue checkmark very much excluded). I don't think it's worth 8 dollars, and I don't think I would pay for it no matter the price, but I'm fairly sure there are people who would. Giving priority to the replies from the people who paid kinda sounds like shadow-banning the people who didn't, but it could be done closer to the promoted tweets that are already there. I would also be fine to give people a badge showing they support Twitter if that's something people want. However, using the verified account checkmark for this is entirely dumb. Even if some people see it like one, checkmarks are not a status symbol. They are a tool to prove you are who you claim to be. It would be great if you could verify everyone, but it's simply not feasible (or at least not economically viable). This means that old verifications were "broken" in one way: someone might be who they claim to be, but they have not been verified. This is a problem, but a relatively small one as there are other ways to verify that if you really want to. You can also have a good instinct on who might not be verified. If the USA president is not verified, it's probably a fake account. However, you wouldn't expect a youtuber with 1k subs to be verified. The problem with Twitter blue is not only that it doesn't fix that issue, but it actually makes it worse. Any real account might be unverified because that person might not want to pay, meaning that not having a checkmark means nothing. Even worse, anyone with a checkmark might be fake, because there is no actual verification. And, on top of that, if enough people buy it, it stops being something special and something people want. If not enough people buy it, it won't make enough of a difference to change anything (and it will probably still be pointless because you can just buy it, it won't be a status symbol anymore). With this, I can't understand how Elon thought it was a good idea. My theory is that he is so full of himself that he just couldn't consider he was wrong, despite half of the internet telling him it was a terrible idea. The any other options I can think of are that he is too dumb to understand or that he just likes to see chaos unfold, but I don't think those are the case. I think he genuinly belived that it would work out, because they could just ban trolls who abused this and they would eventually stop paying again. And, to be fair, with enough time trolls would probably get tired of this and it would go down to manageable levels. However, he clearly underestimated the amount of people willing to pay $8 for a quick laugh. What I think will be a bigger problem, especially long term, will be scam accounts. Scammers are already used to pretending to be someone else, and they will probably manage to set up something to pass whatever verification process Twitter sets up (it can't be that thorough if you want to allow potentially millions of users to get it for $8). Sure, you can ban them as soon as you find them out, but they only need one scam to succed to finance dozens of fake accounts, so I don't think that's going to stop them. And surely it will be a lot easier to scam someone when you are a "verified" account than when sending a random email. Sorry for the long rant, I have been thinking about this for a while.
I agree that RUclips's recommendation algorithm generally prioritizes quality, and that channels that it mostly ignores tend not to be very good... but at the same time, there's a fairly large amount of content that's designed from point of conception to be as appealing to the algorithm as possible, and I personally find those videos insufferable.
I’m honestly so use to you guys talking over each other that when you “put effort into doing it” and the editor splits the audio channels. I legit think there is something wring with my headphones before I realize its just a bit.
Regarding "the ad break that doesn't end" YT already does this. THREE FUCKING MINUTE ads for hooded sweatshirts! If i have something on the TV (like this podcast!) and one of THOSE ads hit, i recognize it and bother to get my phone to skip.
I feel like the blue checkmark was so sought after because it was such an exclusive thing, selling it to just anyone made it lose that, now everyone just makes fun of you for paying for it unless you impersonate someone famous for the memes
With the Twitter blue, you also get half ads. Reportedly the average user generated $12 a month from ads, meaning Twitter is actually only netting $2/month. Additionally, Elon gave billions of the debt to Twitter, so Twitter needs to make expensive interest payments as well now.
Elon is going bankrupt. He’s not going to be able to pay any of the loan back and he’s burning bridges with all the politicians that were able to save Tesla through climate bills. He’s going to lose out on a big share of his Tesla since he put it as collateral and Tesla is going to start losing massive amounts of money. Who knows, SpaceX is also completely dependent on government funding and might lose out on new launches.
Nudity and pornography are allowed on Twitter though, so the answer is that you wouldn't get banned at all. Now Facebook, Instagram, RUclips, Tumblr and others - that's a different story. Twitter Blue existed before Elon came along - it cost $5 and it enabled you to upload 1080p videos up to 10 minutes long (default is 720p 2:20 long). I wanted to buy it to post my nsfw animations but the feature was only available in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Now after the changes Twitter blue costs $8, is available in one more country than before - UK and cannot be purchased on the Desktop or Android anymore - now you are REQUIRED to own an iPhone to buy Twitter Blue - it's literally the only way. So I'm still not able to buy it because I live in the wrong country and use the wrong kind of phone. Not that I would want to buy it now cause it's so badly looked upon by the art community. Oh and that deboosting based on having/not having a paid checkmark is not a thing yet - he said it would but it hasn't been implemented and I hope it never will.
I paused the video 3 seconds in to adjust audio and saw the shirt, scrolled down to the description and bought one of everything on the merch store. Please make more stickers too. Buying 3 of this pack. I love the energy behind these and I'd love antiwork and malicious compliance stickers too. Now I have to listen to the podcast.
On the giving up thing.. don't be too quick to judge; some people may have caring duties or health problems that delay them more than random procrastination. I'm sure you all know life can be tough sometimes! Hopefully Metal isn't looking after a sick partner when that alarm goes off lol.
Allen needs to deep fake a movie scene, with all celebrity 6 level faces, play it in a movie theater and record it on a crappy camera like a bootleg (with peoples heads visible) so the world can experience Polybius the movie.
Elon wasn't bullied to the point of a vendetta, He's just a vindictive person. he does the same shit to his employees in all of his other businesses And they didn't bully him online. You're putting the cart before the horse, he gets bullied because he's an asshole, He's not being an asshole because someone bullied him.
It could also be that he's sucking up to conservatives by buying Twitter, given that his companies are in Texas and Florida which are currently both being governed by wanna-be authoritarians.
Allen telling that guy to give up after 6 months has some fight club vibes. like "he wants to make metal music and i took his license and told him that if he didnt have a metal song out in 6 months i would kill him." his cereal will taste better than it ever has in his life.
I would disagree with giving up on something, I never give up on something without trying, if you want to do it then scale it down to the point where jumping in feels less like a pool and more like a puddle!
I like to think as Musk as a corporate General Manager. Toto Wolf, Bill Belichick. He shows up with funds, he learns enough to be dangerous and then uses that knowledge to hire the right people.
I don't know the exact laws in question, but most likely you could get away with the theater recording if you rent out the space and have them put on a public domain or original piece of media. At 49:00 ish, A similar difference between blunt and rude exists between rude and mean. Something is rude when it lacks the expected decorum for the situation, something is mean when it is intended to be as such. (something doesn't have to be mean to be offensive, in case it seemed like I was saying something like that)
I find that nebula is a good alternative for youtube premium. It has a lot of the features on youtube premium and there are a lot of high quality youtube creators there with exclusive content
Yes, Tesla made more profit than Ford and GM combined in Q3. SpaceX launches more mass to orbit than China Russia and Europe combined. You can't just be more wrong.
A comment on the twitter thing, Q2 2022 operating costs puts it around 1.1b so at 8 bucks a month. If he can get 12m people to be signed up the whole year he has covered operating expensive and all profit from ads or other members is profit. Not fully impossible goal to reach, but in terms of a good investment it will take a lot of years to make back that initial cost.
All good things must come to an end. I'm glad this will never end.

I love the instrument and love listening to its music, but I could never get myself to pick up my violin. Well now I know I need to stop waiting and start practicing, or GIVE UP. And I'm not going to give up after 10 years of learning the violin.
Love seeing Will wearing the IKEA flag, thanks for representing our country
57:32 Nigel is right, I got drunk one day at the beach, thought about how to backflip for like 10 minutes, and ended up landing it first try😂 I did like 15 more that day lol
Holy shit, the 'It's nice to just give up'-thing made me laugh so hard. It's a good piece of advice regardless of how shit people feel after getting the kind of advice.
God damn discord notification sounds

thats how i got rid of twitter's ads... i block all accounts that serve a promoted tweet to me and eventually twitter just never shows you them anymore.
Same
I'm not literally the metal guy but I am. I've been about to start something for like 10 years. I couldn't imagine doing anything else but I'm not actually doing it. I need to start right now or put it away and quit torturing myself. Thanks dudes. You helped someone today.
honestly what you were talking about at around 35:00 makes sense. encouraging more persistence and linking back to previous tweets instead of posting a picture of a tweet on another platform would be good. however, as it is i just avoid any tweet posts on other social media because i don't want to make a twitter account
So funny hearing Allen talk about felony movie piracy after his latest video.
I love going to watch my favorite podcast just for it to devolve into "You should just give up. If you haven't done it by now you never will."
"Elon was smart and crypto was a good idea it's just everybody else making them look bad"
Will... please......
yalls discord notifications tripped me out, i thought it was mine at, 0:27
I bought merch!! I'm stoked! I am going to put the stickers up at work.
I think the best version of "staring too long" is the Jeffery Dallas - Popcorn Button video. Such a classic.
Since the rule of Questions in youtube titles is that the answer is always "No."
good title choice
He's a genius when it comes to tech innovation and aerospace development, but he's an idiot when it comes to politics and social media.
@@andrewparker318 yes he designed the batteries and the rockets personally. 🤡
I loved Nigel's enthusiasm about Kevin's merch.

The timing of posting this episode is impeccable.
Twitter blue was already an ad-free experience, tho. And it was cheaper before.
So that one isn't good. He increased the price and added advertisement
We need footage of Nigel doing a back flip.
Congrats on 50! I might have watched 5
Was that your Discord pinging in the start of the video? I checked mine frantically, but no new messages haha. Awesome podcast, gentlemen :-)
This episode wasn't ready for how fast Elon would sh*t all over twitter.
Regarding "the ad break that doesn't end" YT already does this. THREE FUCKING MINUTE ads for hooded sweatshirts! If i have something on the TV (like this podcast!) and one of THOSE ads hit, i recognize it and bother to get my phone to skip.
I knew a guy that would burn CD's with like 10 full length movies. he would just keep lowering the resolution until he could fit more movies.
Now that’s some real 90s/00s shit
Thumbs up from me specifically because you did the split audio and all talked at once thing again! Love the podcast!
I feel like the blue checkmark was so sought after because it was such an exclusive thing, selling it to just anyone made it lose that, now everyone just makes fun of you for paying for it unless you impersonate someone famous for the memes
@@DingDingTheRUclipsBuddy so fucking based.
People who pay for Twitter Blue likely also use Twitter more so its even less

This episode is making me take a good look at myself... i don't like it, but I appreciate it
The slight pause after "discharge printed" really had my mind racing for a minute 😂
Alan finally got to record that movie. And only the finest quality.
YAAA NEW SAFETY THIRD
Allen needs to deep fake a
movie scene, with all celebrity 6 level faces, play it in a movie theater and record it on a crappy camera like a bootleg (with peoples heads visible) so the world can experience Polybius the movie.
I paid for Blue before the musk disaster... I thought it would get rid of sponsored posts, but it didn't. Only had it for one month.
Yup. Know from personal experience. He's got a terrible reputation among tech workers.
It could also be that he's sucking up to conservatives by buying Twitter, given that his companies are in Texas and Florida which are currently both being governed by wanna-be authoritarians.
@Vaeldarg nah, he went on a bender
He's some mix between a petulant child and a cartoon supervillain
I always belived it would go a long way... BUT BRING MORE PEOPLE! Bobby and Derek... even William said that he wanted to bring Derek...
Ok, early on the episode and I'm thinking already that I guys need to have @LegalEagle on the podcast!!!
This would be a great choice
Allen telling that guy to give up after 6 months has some fight club vibes. like "he wants to make metal music and i took his license and told him that if he didnt have a metal song out in 6 months i would kill him." his cereal will taste better than it ever has in his life.
I would disagree with giving up on something, I never give up on something without trying, if you want to do it then scale it down to the point where jumping in feels less like a pool and more like a puddle!
Wait a minute, how are all these guys I'm randomly subbed too all in a podcast together? 😍👌 This rocks.
NERDS NERDS NERDS NERDS
the discord notification sounds playing in the ad at the start had me confused! lol
keep up the great work guys
I like to think as Musk as a corporate General Manager. Toto Wolf, Bill Belichick. He shows up with funds, he learns enough to be dangerous and then uses that knowledge to hire the right people.
14:21 my computer BSOD'd immediately after will said "all good things must come to an end, right?" and I thought it was a gag
(something doesn't have to be mean to be offensive, in case it seemed like I was saying something like that)
Oh, delightful. I needed something nice, it was a rough work day.
47:36 that is the best advice i have ever heard
0:28 are you trying to kill me with all these discord pings? im going crazy
Just what i was needing.
Now just chemistry help from Nigel

I find that nebula is a good alternative for youtube premium. It has a lot of the features on youtube premium and there are a lot of high quality youtube creators there with exclusive content
can the next season of this podcast be named "safety fourth"
Wait, it gets better William, HOW much of the movie is recording the movie? What if you only recorded the top left corner and only tones below 200hz
Elon is more or less the Dunning-Kruger effect personified
Yes, Tesla made more profit than Ford and GM combined in Q3. SpaceX launches more mass to orbit than China Russia and Europe combined. You can't just be more wrong.
oh watch an anime picture profile criticizing one of the most influent men in human history, what have you accomplish ?

Woooow, Too Many Cooks. I dropped acid when I watched it. It was the RUclips version though...
Short answer? No. Long answer? FUCKING NOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo.
first time listening. I really enjoyed this podcast
literally checked every server i was in on discord twice because of that intro lmao
This podcast inspired me to set an alarm to give up.
Ld50 for content ratings is actually a genius idea.
