This video is a review of the ever so common $69 - $99 (pries are all over) chrome stainless steel exhaust headers sold on ebay. I decided to install a pair as the stock manifolds are priced higher. It turned out to be a decent way to add some cheap performance in my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 project truck. I definitely notice in the pedal response and it will come in handy when towing.
At the end of the video I list years and the most popular models that these exhaust headers fit on.

Despite what some folks may think of those inexpensive (not cheap) eBay headers, they are quality pieces and are well constructed. Have the stainless steel versions on the 1998 dodge RAM 1500 5.9L Magnum v8 here in Alaska. Best things to do with these headers for install:
~1) Use Stage 8 stainless steel locking header hardware (no. 8915)
If you actually look through the vids on my channel you’ll see that I own a 2000, basically the same as the 90’s Dodge Ram truck’s. And by cheap, I mean cheap in price, and I say that because they are cheap in price and they work great.

@@davesogn3329 The description said that they were. I live in AZ, Maricopa County and I have to go through vehicle emissions testing. While not as strict as California and NY they’re still picky here. I passed with flying colors. I use a customer 2 chamber muffler with 3” pipe from the muffler back and it sounds damn nice. These are really common on eBay. Most of the ads claim they are legal in all 50 states.
I bought these at the wrong time I spent over 200 dollars and just got them today hopefully they will fit and everything works well
I personally bent the exhaust flange from the stock Y-pipe over enough to bolt together to the manifold and that took me about 5 minutes to do so(the bending part). Same issue with the incorrect hardware but install was relatively easy after picking some new bolts up.
I would even try to use the original bolts lol they were horrible.
Great video my pipe from the header is like 2 in I don't remember for sure but I wanna build a y pipe from headers to merge for O2 sensor but it's more complicated than it sounds lol cause the flanges on mine are like 2 in

I kept my cats. There’s no way in h3ll I would remove them and chance it. You’ll never pass inspection or get it registered without cats in Maricopa county unless you use a rural address, which I will not do. Cheating emissions can get your business license taken away, lose my business insurance etc etc. And even though it’s my personal vehicle it doesn’t look good to be a mechanic and try to get around emissions laws.

How did you drive the studs in the engine
By hand with a ratchet and then a torque wrench. I didn’t have any issues although I’ve had others at that they had issues getting their old bolts out.

The price has doubled since I bought mine but honestly they’re still worth it.
How are the headers holding up now? And did you notice a power increase?
Holding up really good. I noticed a quicker pedal response. And with normal driving I noticed better gas mileage, actually. I have a custom Jones 2 chamber muffler (sounds the same as Flowmaster) with 3” rear exhaust pipe. The goal wasn’t to make it loud but she has a deep, mellow rumble and it sounds nice.
Do we need to go to regular Dodge header gaskets instead of those
If you mean can you use regular Dodge exhaust manifold gaskets no. They wouldn’t line up right. You can use other brands of exhaust “header” gaskets, though. It would probably take trial and error. The gaskets that came with them are decent they are just really thick and mine has to be altered just a bit. It’s not hard to do the needed modifications.

do these headers bolt right up to the stock cat?
Yeah they do. Mine I didn’t have any issues but we did two others and the drivers side exhaust pipe had to be cut off just beneath the transmission bell housing, in the middle where the pipe crosses back to join up to the passengers side exhaust pipe, before the cat. That allowed for exact fitment. After the headers were installed the exhaust pipe was installed on the drivers side header and the exhaust pipe where we had to cut it was joined back together with an exhaust fitting and exhaust u clamps and later welded at a muffler shop. Some do require slight modifying upon installation. There was a warning flier in the package when I got them.

Yeah the only difference I believe was the headers bolt length. Do a search on eBay there are tons of sellers selling these. I’m really happy with them. I have them running into a 2 chamber performance muffler and 3” pipe. I’m not into really loud exhaust. My setup is perfect. I have a vid of the sound posted. Check through my vids if interested 👍🏽
