    Hey, thank you for your Videos. They helped me a lot to understand docker and what is even possible with selfehosting.
    Started with your guide to setup jellyfin. I tried other guides but they did not work for me.
    Your easy to follow step by step guide helped me to understand how it works. In this Video you showed how to setup dokuwiki in a docker compose container to. Since then i use it a lot and i love it.
    I will try out wikidocs to.

    I've always wanted to set a documentation thing up. So I can keep better track of the insanities I end up creating. Not sure which though, as I've seen a lot of solutions. I'm seeing well WikiDocs, Docsify, MkDocs, probably a lot more. Then there's readthedocs. That's the one I've seen the most, but isn't and easily setup docker container like the others. And they all look so alike too, I can't tell a difference.

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  22 дня назад +2

      Setting the looks of the different platforms aside, I think it's going to boil down to which one makes your job of documenting easiest. Some people need all the bells and whistles. Others don't. Try them out (or at least a few of them) and find what works for you. :)

    • @AminPersia

      Also the backup and restore process can be a deciding factor. For me not having a database and using an standard (markdown) for the files is very important.

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  22 дня назад +1

      @@AminPersia As long as your server has a good backup strategy in place, I don't see much of an issue. But it would be nice for the app to have a backup/restore functionality built into it.

    Even though the focus is on documents, it would be helpful to allow uploads of other file types. Sometimes, documentation is connected to other assets. Additionally, when pasting an image, the filename is a hash. It would be great to include a timestamp in the filename.

    Great video 👍 Do some or a few projects on github contain closed binary blobs, from time to time? I wonder what you think, David. Is it beneficial or meaningful to research in preparing these review videos, and telling us your audience what you found? I feel like it is a possible concern and not only for the linux kernel, from time to time. Or am I off base here? Kindest regards, neighbours and friends.
    P.S. Your warm and welcoming energy is nice to listen to.

      I'm not a developer, so my opinion on best coding practices isn't particularly relavant, but you can take a look at the security of the containers you're interested in with several different methods. I made a video about Trivy a while back that is/was helpful in that regard: ruclips.net/video/xqrBpVgsNiI/видео.html

    I swap between WikiDocs and Otterwiki. They are both great at what they do. One of these days, l'll settle on one.

    • @teagancollyer
      @teagancollyer 16 дней назад

      I only dabbled with Otterwiki for a week or so, a few months ago. because I thought it'd suit my needs quite well but I never really gelled with it. I guess the benefit of using wiki's that rely on markdown files is they're pretty migratable between 'solutions', you might just need to mess with the wiki indexer to make it work correctly.

    Tanks for your great Job!
    This is a very nice Wiki, but are there internal Links and how to make one?

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  22 дня назад +1

      With regards to this setup, a link is a link. There's no functionality to select from a list of existing pages within the site, so you'd need to make the links manually.

  • @Jan_Alexander
    @Jan_Alexander 22 дня назад

    Interesting, the parallel editing displays are very handy. Can it batch-import existing docs, like a folder full of txt's or odt's or similar?

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  22 дня назад +1

      It can import but the content for the page has to be put into a file called content.md. So, you might have a folder structure like /home/docker/wikidocs/datasets/documents/cms/content.md
      or
      /home/docker/wikidocs/datasets/documents/cms/wordpress/content.md

    I'm having trouble with WikiDocs, the left navigation menu is missing. This has been the same behavior on 2 different instances of WikiDocs on 2 different hosts in 2 different networks. What am I missing?

    • @DBTechYT
      @DBTechYT  13 дней назад +1

      That's interesting. I'm not even sure there's a way to turn off the left navigation. By default, it will just be Page Name, Sub Title, Search, Navigation down the left side. At first it will just say "Content" and then any pages you build should show up there automatically. If this is a persistent issue, you might want to take a look at the Github repository and see if anyone else is having that issue. If not, you might open an issue to see if someone there can help you as I'm unable to reproduce the error.

      @DBTechYT Thanks for the response! I think you cracked it, lools like I created everything as a sub page of Homepage
      So Homepage/Things
      Homepage/Things/Stuff and for some reason these don't appear on the nav menu :( looks like you have to remove Homepage and just type the folder name to get it to appear.
      Is there a way to edit this sting / slug after you've created the page? I need to delete Homepage to populate the navigation menu.

      WikiDocs looks really cool 👍 but it looks like there is small bug in the table header. In the preview while editing, the header is part of the table. But when I save the changes, the header appears above the table, making it look like it's not part of the table. 🙂
      I would also appreciate it if WikiDocs supported highlighting for significant content (note, tip, important, warning, and caution) like GitHub.

      What a strange thing to call a failure. It's likely because they use some sort of analytics on the site and because of GDPR. If you don't want them to *anonymously* count your visit and see which pages you're visiting (to help them improve their site and product), then they redirect you somewhere else. It's not that complicated.
