There are lot of comments about his singing in English. I am from the US and I did not have any more trouble understanding him than I do a lot of American and English bands. So, I don't see the problem. He has a good voice, is bilingual, charismatic and irreverent enough to be a great success. Rock music thrives on spectacle. He can always work on his English pronunciation, but he already has the star power that lot of people lack.
I don't speak the language, but I can always enjoy his fabulous voice because he's so expressive and just good. That being said, I always appreciate when he sings in English because I can google translate Italian lyrics to know what he's saying, but its not the same as understanding the song as I hear it, if that makes any sense.
this was actually 2017, so it's been a while and you might want to check his pronunciation in more recent songs, like I wanna be your slave. But in any case I heard him say in an interview that originally, as a singer, he started from soul, and raggae, and in particular with raggae he'd taken to trying for the Jamaican accent. I suppose it's not so strange, when I think how Hugh Laurie recorded an album of country music and completely lost the British accent for that. Also, keep in mind that Damiano David was born in 1999, so in this video he was 18. And this show was for Italian TV. So, not to be close-minded, but I entreat all pure-pronouncers to consider that maybe his English pronunciation was not precisely the priority here.
if you saw his video-diaries from the time you might change your mind. I believe they built their stage presence the hard way, with that 1-2 years experience performing on the streets. From age 15-16.
I wouldn't say he's shy in the literal sense of the word, but he has a lot of insecurities and some problems related to anxiety, that's a known fact. Especially at the beginning of his carreer.
I think more so anxious and complicated than shy. Shy indicates a sense of shame which I do not see in him so much but he does have insecurities like all of us of course.
His voice here just reminds me so much of Kurt Cobain here. I am just obsessed with the raspy voices and I am just the happiest person when I find new bands like this to listen to. They are probably going to become one of my top 5 bands
Then check their x factor mentor out: Manuel Agnelli, the band is called afterhours. They were one of the most important bands in the 90 ies I guess...
Okay…I’ve been on a Måneskin kick since they won Eurovision, and this is probably one of THEIR BEST performances they’ve done!!! Damiano’s got that Eddie Vedder vibe going on in the vocals. Plus singing barefoot?? Magnifico!
An unbelievable look at what true talent must posess! Damianno, my love, you are the embodiment of it, as those who walk beside you may never fully know, it's ok, for times as these, which torment all souls, FREE IS HE WHO SINGS HIS OWN SOUL TO SLEEP & is no worse for it! THANKS FOR MAKING YOUR STEPS AS CYMBALS!
Que voz por favor!!!! Nunca he sido fan de Eurovision pero la verdad que este grupo tiene todo el mérito de haberlo ganado, son unos completos rock stars 🤟

Caught in a monstrous sea and you won't be able to think Yeah, and it's there you'll learn what I know That all of this world will fade You gotta learn to let it all go Oh, and flow like the river [Chorus] Flow, oh-oh-oh-oh, ooh Flow, woah-woah-oh, ooh
The guy who won is a professional opera singer, who appealed to more mainstream audience, singing the most covered, most popular hits in the history of music. The mainstream public who doesn't follow the whole XFactor show, but only joins to watch the final night, basically not knowing anything about the contestant's path during all 10-12 nights of the show, voted Maneskin out, who were No. 1 from the first night. I have nothing bad to say about the guy who won in terms of his voice - he's a stunning singer, but this is not The Voice show, but XFactor, and he had zero "X factor" for a star, he was just a great voice pushing all right buttons to appeal to the mainstream public (an opera singer singing Who Wants to Live Forever)? that's a classic and a must for everyone who wants to get the least updated member of the audience to vote for them). While Maneskin were covering contemporary artists, completely unknow to the majority of the audience above 25 years of age.
One of the thing that I cant wrap my head around is they are Gen Z. All this while I thought they were Gen Y coz they gave so much vibe as millenium. Who would have thought their age was ONLY 21 and 22 when they won Eurovision!!!!
Excellent, truly excellent indeed!!!! Extremely powerful and talented, young dare confidence + ambition will get you very high, future masters of Rock, you're winners..! And by the way, fuck accents!!! Who cares about it...???? If the lyrics where in Italian and an English was trying to sing them, then what...??! Totally irrelevant, they're ACE!!! 🤘👍❤️
Megan Markle is kinda not the prettiest looking if yano what I mean but Ethan has been graced with godlike facial features and a genuine looking smile.
Fosse rimasto su questo stile. La tua voce dava il meglio così. Sensualità, particolarità. Ora come ora mi sembrate un po’ troppo commerciali, ma spero che in futuro vi rimettiate su questa linea. Buon tutto

I mean, If you can't understand this English, then you should start practicing bro... not every English speaker comes from an English speaking country.
I am an English native speaker, and I have been hearing it since I was born. I can not see the band growing popular outside of Italy until he is more understandable which is why I would suggest that he either learns to speak English properly, or sing in Italian. He can not even pronounce the name of their song, which is Chosen, properly as he says "chOOsen". Italians in general wont understand his singing and no-one outside of Italy will do so either, so can you see them being popular or successful without him learning English, or, singing in his native language?
I'm having a Maneskin marathon and seriously this is a first time I'm truly thankful to eurovision

Same here :)
Me too! I am too old to feel like this too!!! Off to Rome in December
+1

Spanish is my first language, then Italian and then english and i had no trouble understanding
I think the real Damian David is a very shy boy. We can see he is very nervous when he stands in front of the judges, but when he performs he is king.

Never had I ever seen the sun
Rise that way above the day to greet the dawn

His name is Manuel Agnelli. He was Måneskin's coach in X factor. An excellent musician who recognized their talent and taught them a lot.

The singer needs to learn to either speak English properly, or, sing in Italian...
And you need to learn to shut up and appreciate talent.
They are the ch"oo"sen band :). Yes, their lead singer is charismatic, but what use is that if you can not understand 3/4 of the words he says?
