Grégory Lemarchal was a French singer who gained fame by winning the fourth season of the reality TV show "Star Academy" in 2004. He was known for his powerful voice and emotional performances. Tragically, Grégory passed away on April 30, 2007, at the age of 23, due to complications from cystic fibrosis while waiting for a lung transplant. His legacy continues through the Association Grégory Lemarchal, which supports research and awareness for cystic fibrosis.
And I'd add, his doctors were unbelieving: they never understood how he could sing like that and have such vocal power and intensity despite of his condition. The cystic fibrosis is supposed to greatly affect respiratory capacities, thus preventing the patient to be able to sing correctly.

I am the patreon requester, and I wanted to share this song, a young singer who wanted to prove, even with an incurable disease, that you can "write your own story".
He was a French singer. In 2004, he became known to the general public by winning the fourth season of the show "Star Academy" He died in 2007 from cystic fibrosis. a shooting star of French singer. a short career but one that left its mark.

Notre regretté Grégory partie trop tôt,la vie est une pute sournoise... C'est si loin et pourtant le chagrin semble pareil qu'on première jour de sa disparition 😢
This song is corny, and the promotion of this artist unhealthy: everyone knew he was ill ans condemned, and it was even a selling point like “listen to how this cute boy sings, despite his illness”. In any case, this boy got to live his dream before he died, and that's the positive side of the story!
No, contrary to your claim of “unhealthy promotion” of an “ill boy” that “everyone knew” to be “condemned”, the documented impact of Lemarchal’s apparently shockingly unexpected death, causing unprecedented public activity, with unseen numbers of organ donation consents and charity contributions, has proved how little was the real public awareness of his actual health condition, while he was alive. Cystic fibrosis is labeled as “orphan disease” for a reason - few know anything about it.
During StarAc, his diagnosis was rightfully disclosed once, when Lemarchal was first presented to the audience (hardly could the producers of the reality show pretend he wasn’t afflicted, it would be visible anyway), yet it was neither portrayed as fatal, nor further highlighted, and all his daily treatment sessions were deliberately kept out of public eye. I fail to see how exactly either StarAc or, later, his record label really “promoted” any public interest towards the seriousness of his condition. If anything, they chose to respect Lemarchal’s unwillingness to gain sympathy for his “fate” rather than being credited for his artistic ability. And this was precisely why Lemarchal tragically never had a chance to benefit from all the organ donor consents and money contributions, that only have arrived from the unsuspecting and heartbroken public after it was already too late.
While no less than Lara Fabian, Luc Plamondon, Patrick Fiori and many other highly qualified professionals found him to be extraordinarily gifted and deserving distinguished career, some media/tabloids might have ruthlessly exploited his “health issues”, for their own gains, selling the alleged controversy around his disease. But I struggle to understand how anyone unbiased and critical enough would buy into this “unhealthy promotion” idea, as apparently it was just the opposite. As if the disease wasn’t physically damaging enough, Lemarchal certainly was under huge stress from those really unhealthy allegations that somehow he had benefited from being ill. The most tragic part is that he, in fact, might have lived longer life, if he felt allowed to openly talk of all the medical problems that the patients have to struggle with, but he chose not to, to protect his career.
OK, my point wasn’t that his disease wasn’t disclosed - as I said, it was. The point was - what exactly public knew about it? Other than it’s name, the “miracle” stuff and the alleged winning controversy? Because cystic fibrosis is labeled as “orphan disease” for a reason - the public awareness is generally low for those. I’ve actually seen comments by French people stating they had heard of his disease, but they either didn’t believe it, or didn’t think it to be serious, precisely because they thought it to be just the “promotion” thing. Until they had learned he had actually died, and it was all for “real”. What I mean is that thanks to this “fake promotion” idea, which already threatened to compromise his artistic career, he was almost stripped of an opportunity to promote the real public awareness, that could have literally prolonged his own life. So, maybe we at least shouldn’t give it too much credit, imho. With regards.

Despite his young age, he made a name for himself in music history. Not because he died young, but because he had an extraordinary talent.
