It's crazy...I was at the lake Bodom yesterday, drinking JD and listening to "Follow the Reaper"...and then this showed up in my suggestions... R.I.P. brother..listened since 1999
I met Alexi while I was living in Helsinki, my mom's birth town. Only met him once at the place called Nosturi, a cultural center where COB had a rehearsel room for a short time before they rented their own house for COB and COB only. So I ran into him outside of the building, didn't want to bother him, but couldn't help it. He turned out to be the most kind, humble, funny,..a very down to earth guy. I remember he was in a hurry but still he went back to their rehearsal room to get me a t-shirt (I didn't ask him to do that for me), and signed it. Still have that t-shirt and I will never sell it. When I remember that day I met him by chance...I'm starting to tear up 😥😥 Thank you Alexi, your career had a huge impact on so many people around the world. You weren't just a virtuoso guitarist but also a great human being, son, brother, husband, friend...loved by so many people ❤️❤️ May your soul rest in peace, You will never be forgotten. With Love, Marisol A 💜💕💜
I met alexi 7 years ago I was at my lowest point in my life. I was an alcoholic and addict. He was such a kind and loving person. He encouraged me to pick up a guitar and told me music will save me. Since then I have been sober And got my life together and became a father an one hell of a guitar player. He saved my life. He took time to talk with me and encouraging me to take back my life with music. Rest well my friend thank you for saving me.
I used to listen to his songs when I went for walks alone in the forest to get away from an abusive household. 'Everytime I Die' was my favourite. He was the only friend I had and I haven't stopped crying since I heard. Rip. I don't know what else to say I'm still in shock, he's the reason I picked up a guitar after studying viola, and now he's gone. He's an angel, he came, he did what he came for and he left. I keep trying to make myself feel better by telling myself that he was Niccolo Paganini in a past life and Vivaldi before that and he'll come back again in a new reincarnation to finish what he started centuries ago, but that doesn't make it easier.
I will miss that smile. And everything about him making him so real. Alexi was the best in everything he was doing, seriously or having fun. It's a great great loss for people who actually knew him, and for metal stage. Nobody would be ever able to play like him and be so cool with fans like he was. Rest In Peace Alexi, your Hate Crew will never let the world forget about you!
He's the reason I got into extreme metal when I was 11 years old.. And the reason I started learning the guitar. I'm so hearbroken he's gone. He's a legend.
ALEXI MADE ME LISTEN METAL. I remember when i 1st time wanted to hear metal and the only band i knew was cob cause of my brother who was playing them on drums. So i put follow the repper album and fell in love with kissing the shadows and all of their songs. And here i am 4 years later inspired by him to play guitar learning about laiho is dead.REST IN PEACE LEGEND just wish one day i can play what he was playing
He had a great sense of humor.. I have met him a lot and each time we ended up holding on to each other, sliding down the wall and cracking up laughing.
Inside my head there is a child crying... children of bodom was actually the first metal band that I listened to, when I was like 10/11 years old I think. This man got me into guitar, I remember listening to his musics and being like "wow, this man's so talented! I want to be like him one day!" And then, I began to play guitar... This loss is really painful R.I.P Alexi Laiho
It was and still is very heartbreaking when I heard the news yesterday that Alexi passed away. We are going to miss you so much because not only were you one of the best guitar players in the world but, an influence to so many people who looked up to you and will remember you forever. There is so much I’d like to say and express my feelings the way I feel right now. But, all I can say is I’m so hurt your gone but, your talent and music will always be remembered and never will be forgotten. It will always live on. You’ll always be one of my our hearts and our music. May you be and Rest In Peace. We will always love you and remember you here in United States.Texas.
Saw this guitar god in Dallas Tx about 10 years ago with In Flames, Megadeth, and JFAC. Children of Bodom owned the show with lead machine gunner Alexi absolutely destroying everything and everyone. What a show and if you were there at the Nokia center, you remember. Rest In Peace and Godspeed Alexi
I'm seriously going to fucking miss that dude, I didn't even know him personally but he was just someone I looked up to in my head.. He just seemed interesting and genuine, excellent guitar player and musician. We love you Alexi.. RIP my brother.. see you on the other side.
For Christmas I had purchased strings for my Alex Laiho Flyin-v. January 2nd I restringed said guitar January 4th Alexi passes. Wow the irony...im floored with his passing. R.I.P. Alexi Laiho
What a cool and genuine person. Great musician. He makes me travel in such beautiful places with his compositions and his wonderful sense of melody. You'll always be behind my eyelids, thank you so much Alexi, rest in peace.
Aww man ,What a fucking legend. So disappointing, I discovered Children of Bodom last year and I'm absolutely heartbroken, he was my guitar hero. He will be remembered as one of the Greatest Guitarists of all Time. This was a huge shock for me this morning. R.I.P Alexi Laiho \m/
He lived is live. He was a good musician and a Father. He had two families his own and metal. . Now we need to thank him for all of his work. Thank you, wild child 🤘🏼🖤
I remember seeing these guys everytime they came to town...specially when they played in a small venue got to see them front row...flawless. Alexi played the hatecrew deatroll solo right in front of me my world was forever changed. Such a huge heart and talent you will be greatly missed.. rock in peace brother!!!!
I've been a metalhead for 25 years and the first time I heard Alexi Laiho, I knew he was the most special Guitarist I have heard (he was the best Guitarist and always will be).
I will always be thankful for what he did for me. Inspired me so much. Started playing guitar etc because of him. Made my life so much better. Fan since im 9 years old (17 years!) Alexi 4 ever! I love you
Tears are dropping from my eyes, but i'm gonna play "Angels Don't Kill" over and over again wright now, until my pain is gone small. Body can die, but music gonna live when we listen it. Alexi your music forever in my heart, unseparated piece of my life.
He always will be remembered. It's sad but his legacy echoes in the eternity. - Towards dead end - Bed of Razors - Angels don't kill - Kissing the Shadows - Hatebreeder - Halo of Blood - Downfall - and much more...
I like how this video has 1300 likes and not a single down vote. Really goes to show how universal Alexi's music and influence was. Everyone respected him in the metal community. Alexi, you're going to live on bud. Through your music, through your legacy. RIP Wild Child. See you on the otherside.
I don’t think I’ve been more sad about a artist than the loss of Alexi Lahio. He was my inspiration and hero, thanks for all your inspiration man! You’ve helped me create the music that I make, and been there as a childhood hero You will be missed
So unexpected. I was the only kid in my high school to buy this and introduce it to them. They were all about Pantera, Sepultura, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer etc etc. But I looked for and found CD's like Children Of Bodom - Something Wild, Cradle Of Filth - Vempire basically upon release in Australia. Enslaved, Dimmu Borgir - Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, Bal-Sagoth, and the likes. They liked Carcass, Suffocation, and then started to borrow my CD's, and I borrowed theirs (if they had the courage to trade for a few nights max). The teen days of the 90's in metal innovation.

Bon vent l'ami et merci pour tout. I used to listen to Children of Bodom 10-15 year ago and then moved on to something else (than metal). But clearly Bodom is great and Alexi an impressive muisican, both an amazing guitar hero and great metal singer. I am sad. Cheers mate...

He was a cool dude; I remember when they were opening for Slayer, I didn't even know who they were; I arrived early for general admission/pit, had to take a massive piss, went behind this tiny venue, and after I was done, Alexi (didn't know who he was at the time, I thought he was a roadie, lol) yells out "nice one" (the piss was LONG and LOUD af), he was sitting in this bricked-off balcony-esque area just outside the back door, I went up the stairs, and he was just sitting on a fold-out metal chair practicing by himself. We talked for a bit, he asked who I was there to see, nothing special in terms of dialogue, but he had a REALLY chill vibe to him. Spent about a half hour shooting the shit, then I bailed saying I had to get back in line.
When I saw Alexi come out on stage later, I was front row, he saw my eyes widen in a wtf manner, he gave me a head nod acknowledging "you had no clue who I was" and I just shrugged in defeat... the crowdsurfing was awesome, and I remember the melodies of the songs, and I was humming them to my metalhead friends over the phone in another state on my drive back home trying to get the name of the songs (YT wasn't that big of thing back in the early 2000's).
