This is the 7th nutcracker my wife and I have made. We both use our strengths to come up with the design and the end result. The majority of the Nutcracker is turned on the lathe, body, legs, and arms. I also use many other tools, drill press, bandsaw, chisels, router, saws, drills, torches, grinders and many other tools. It's pretty much an all hands on deck project. On average our nutcrackers take about a week, sometimes more. This year we chose to make a revolutionary war soldier inspired nutcracker. My favorite aspect that I worked on was the flintlock rifle and the wooden rock base. My wife made the hat which turned out especially nice, she formed the material while wet and stitched it together in two parts. The rest of the details are painted on and topped with a clear coat. While some may think this project is too advanced for them, a much more simple design could be made. There are also kits that you can buy, paint and assemble. That would be a great starting place then in the future, you could modify a kit or base a scratch built nutcracker off its design. This is the first time knowing about this video.
