The album that wasn't supposed to happen. LZ was supposed to be embarking on a US tour with their new Physical Graffiti material, but Mr. Plant got himself into an auto accident, and had a long convalescence to deal with. So no more world tour. They took their frustrations and went back into the studio to work up new album material. I think I mentioned already that you should dip your toe into the David Bowie catalog - "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars" would be a good place to start (given the kinds of things you have listened to already). I also recommend listening to Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" album - a masterpiece. if you're going to react to any KB, that's a must listen.

It's an album that's grown on me the more and more I listen to it. If you ever listen to the song "Barracuda" by the band Heart, you'll really hear the influence from Achilles Last Stand. Hey, Crystal! Late to the party here, but I don't go on YT as much these days, but got your announcing message, and just saw your John Lennon, and am now present for Presence! I think Jimmy Page would just love your describing as "beautiful, dark, dreamy" "Achilles Last Stand," which he said was his own favorite Zeppelin song. He told an interviewer once that musically he was looking for "Power. Mystery. And the hammer of the gods." Likewise, your comparing his electric guitar in this song to angel wings would make him beam as well, I'd wager! And I'm sure he'd appreciate your self-deprecating edit of that guy asking "What are you even TALKING about???" as we did, lol! Your reaction to the outro was sublime. It IS an inspired move, that. Finally, the title is indeed one of the great puns in rock and roll, as it refers not only to Greek mythology, but to the singer Robert Plant badly breaking his ankle in a car accident the year before recording this album, much of which he did while singing in a wheelchair--dang! It's also one of drummer John Bonham's finest moments. "For your life" was never a fave of mine, tho I lovelovelove the solo. But I hear about 45 seconds of fat that could be trimmed from the tune. "Royal Orleans" is a lot of fun, "bright" as you note, both the music AND the amusing lyrics. Side Two has wonders of its own. The Pauses found in "Orleans" continue with the ferocious assault of "Nobody's fault but mine" and the bouncy jam of "Hots on for nowhere." But i think "Tea For One" may just be the one that slays you. I don't know music much, but I THINK it is just lousy with your beloved minor chords, and in any case it has some of the most moving, soul-caressing guitar licks I've ever heard from Jimmy or any other rock guitarist. A Blues Celebration of the power of Missing Someone. On that happy note, cheers, lol!
Wow if there was ever anything that could excite me and /or gear me up for side 2 it was all the wonders you’ve just spoken about it. I could see how any of the mentioned tunes could be the favorite or attack my ears in different ways! I have heard about Robert Plant’s physical condition and injury and I just have to applaud and admire his ability not only to continue forward but to musically thrive whilst enduring so much! I am glad the little clips are appreciated! It takes significantly more time and effort to edit the videos that way but I feel it ends a new element of joy/silliness and contrast to all the wonder and amazement that’s experienced, however at times I feel can come through a bit too serious and plagued with technicalities! I am so very grateful for your kind words and commendations! You are the best! 🩵💚

It’s a Mexican restaurant and I love the food and the people who work there. They have become my extended family and I’m really going to miss them. I’ve needed something to make me smile these past few days so THANK YOU. 🙏 I was trying to think of something I haven’t suggested to you yet and I found it the other day. The Beatles “Love” album. It’s from 2007 and has a lot of mashups of some of their best songs. And, you will love the acoustic version of “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”. I swear I was just listening to it the other day and visualizing your reaction to it. It’s very beautiful and it will bring a tear to your eye. Always does for me, too. Hope all is well with you. Chrystal did you know that this album came out the same year as The Movie, both released in 1976, "The Song Remains The Same" in 1976.It features Led Zeppelin at Madison Square Garden Live.I rented the Movie back in 1986 and it was great.
Great album for any band, even if it doesn't happen to be the top Zep album it's still got lots of amazing things going on. "For Your Life" has a riff in the middle that Stone Temple Pilots pretty much 'borrowed' for one of their biggest hits, "Interstate Love Song." Thanks Crystal!
I was just thinking of the fading guitar outro to Achilles. It made me think of the guitar outro to A Hard Day's Night by the Beatles. It's the 2nd longest song I know of about Achilles. The metal band Manowar has an over 28 minute long song called Achilles: Agony and Ecstasy in Eight Parts. It carries the story of the battle of Troy between Achilles and Hector, from the epic poem, "Iliad" by Homer.
One of my favorite albums of all time. My favorite was their last album Physical Graffiti. But this album has my favorite song of all time Achilles Last Stand. Its an amazing album but its sadly underrated in their discography. Great job, great video.
You know, words like "underrated" and "overlooked" are so often used, but this album takes the cake. Zeppelin's first 5 or 6 albums get endless recognition, but to me, this was their last real treasure trove. Achilles Last Stand is my favorite. The galloping tempo makes me think of Iron Maiden, a band I'm immensely fond of, who have a lot of galloping bass lines.

I've suggested to her that "Ziggy Stardust" would be a good place to get a feel for Bowie. "Aladdin Sane" would also be a good choice - 'Ziggy goes to America', as Bowie put it.
After your journey through Side 2, you should really check out the Presence outtake "Ten Ribs and All / Carrot Pod Pod". It sounds like nothing on this entire album.
Keep in mind that Robert plant gad been in an accident and recorded his vocals from a wheelchair. This is my east favorite Led Zeppelin album. Sorry for not replying about Taylor. I've never been able to get into her. Yet, I love Billie Eilish. Go figure.

I wouldn't say it's a great album but it has some great songs. Tea for One and Candy store Rock are pretty weak.

How the hell does anyone (even LZ) follow that? personally I would have left the rest of Side 1 Blank just to allow for some comprehension and a sence of recovery to take place. You shouldn't be allowed to blow people's minds and then just carry on as normal 😂😂😂
