Great review. I was so impressed with the EP5 after I got it, and with great reviews of others I put in an order for an EP8, which is their 1x8, to put on one of my AR’s. After sending in that order, they had given me enough of their bonus bucks, that I turned right around and ordered this SH4, for $197. That’s right, $197! It will be going on a Savage .22 that just happens to outshoot my CZ 457 that I installed their EP5 on. So I guess you can say I am impressed with the Arken products. I have lots of Leupolds, Vortex PST2, Vortex Razor, Zeiss spotting scope, Kowa spotter, and honestly, to my eye, these Arkens punch right up into what I have always thought to be , upper end glass. Time will tell as to durability. Thanks again for your informative reviews…
Yeah I'd say this is the most comprehensive review of this optic I've seen. Honesty shows me what I actually need to see and not just expecting me to take your word.
I own one of the 4 to 16X scopes and I’ve found that the illuminated reticle is best used at about 4 power in low light situations where the Christmas tree, etc., is difficult to make out. In that situation the scope essentially becomes a finely configured red dot. Good hunting option in many cases.
Another great job putting this together. Very informative, easy to watch and the attention to detail set you above other reviewers. Your channel should have more subs than it does.
They are nice scopes at their current September 2022 lowered prices at $289 or $315 with combo pack 4-16x50 or $299 or $325 with combo pack for their 6-24x. Last month's August 2022 sale $424 for their 25% off EP5 5-25x was worth it too. Just keep the magnification 20x or under then they're fine. I think their 4-16x50 is their best scope in their entire lineup for $289 followed by their $424 EP5.
Dude!! I'm glad I ran across this video. You're Zeos's brother and for the life of me I couldn't remember what he mentioned your channel name was. A couple months ago I picked up this SH-4 plus the goodie pack for $400 even. At the same time I pre-ordered two of the new EP-5's with kits for $550, still waiting on those to arrive. I'm the guy that sent Zeos my Stax L700's for review, tell him I said hello :) The bastid kept them for about 6 months LOL.
Its always a fun experiense listening to NA reviews regarding illumination. Usually the biggest issue with illumination is that it doesnt go dimm enough in low light and will glare into the scope. Day light brightness is a nofactor.
Surprised you haven't done a review of the very popular Arken EP5 and instead only have focused on the SH-4 (No pun intended). Would love to see you review the EP5, especially a comparison review vs either a Viper PST II or an Optika 6. For the record you can now get the EP5 for only $397 direct. Seems like the best bang for the buck out there right now.
I have 2 identical PC monitors. I had this video playing on one and your 6-24 review playing on the other. Seeing them side by side the 4-16 is clearly better.
Excellent video.....I can say that your scope reviews are the most comprehensive and detailed reviews on RUclips .....you just sold me on this optic....for the money I'ma have to jump from vortex to arken....💯
Just Got this scope for $224 and can’t wait for it to get here! Great review! You really showed everything that I wanted to know or had questions about
I would focus on RTU 25 sticker on the HVAC unit . If you can read the number . Good sign the glass is optimal. Only few scopes were able to display the writing.
As for 22lr at 300 yards, it's hilarious. Was having a problem with my scope base on my AR and didn't bring my tools. Figured I'd have some fun and see what the 10/22 would do. Got a laugh from 2 guys with custom rifles next to me. But when we walked down to the targets that damn thing shot a hair into MOA and blew my mind. Must have been a good day at the factory or something lol.
Illumination is perfect for when I would want to use it in low light conditions. Much brighter and I start getting what I call flare that is distracting. Thanks for the review.
I bought the EP5. Loved everything about it, glass quality, build quality. But I returned it. The turrets were tall and blocked my cantid red dot. And the weight felt like 2 rifles in one. Not great for my AR10 that I want to be semi mobile. For a long range sniper and weight is not a factor, this is probably the best for its price range. But I want mobility for my AR10. If I ever want to build a bolt action .308 or 6.5 creedmoor, Arken will be the first thing I will be buying.
Very helpful. Thank you. I'm going to order one of these for my .223 Weatherby Predator. I have a Burris XTRII 3-15 and a Nikon FX1000 BLACK 4-16 on my 22-250s and am interested to compare the Arken to them. I paid $850. and $450., respectively for those and the Arken seems like an even better value! So, excited at the quality of some of the entry level/budget precision optics coming out these days!!! And, NO, I don't believe they "outperform" $2500. and plus tier one optics but for the price!
I did have a Diamondback 6-24 on my CZ 457 and replaced it with one of these in MOA and I personally love it far more than the Vortex. The Vortex has 2 MOA subtensions where as this only has 1 MOA. The reticle is much finer than the Diamondback and also maybe a little clearer aswell. I put the Diamondback on it and it took a lot of fun out of shooting cause of how easy it was to see my holes at 100yds but this will give me a little more of the challenge I had with the Crossfire 2 3-9 that came on the gun. Overall, I love the scope and probably wont pick up another Vortex ever again under the $1000 price point, maybe even under $1500.
These are definitely better then the DBT's. And if anything precision is in your line up then that helps. The reticle on the diamond back works well if your not in the most stable position. It seems to be a touch easier to pick up
@@CDOES I do tend to be pretty unstable shooting offhand or even standing and resting depending on rest height but I tend to shoot with a bipod, sitting and a stock bag so I can try to be as stable as I can be. The crosshair on the Diamondback wasnt horrible but is better suited for something like a 30 cal or larger cause of the thickness of the center crosshair where as the Arken with having the dot in the center and really fine subtensions around the center makes the Arken far more suitable for the rimfire guys like myself as you can see your hits a lot easier and actually aim directly on your hits easier aswell
@@brandonbennett7865 everything is better suited for one thing vs another. It's just a matter of finding what would make for a better setup for us. If I shoot from a very stable position. I want a very fine reticle for sure. My practical, positional firearm's all have thicker reticles to pick up easier.
Curious to know if you are currently testing the new Arken EP8 LPVO 1-8X28 34mm FFP or plan to be. Their using Japanese glass as well. I know it just currently launched but I assumed since Arken appreciates your honest reviews that they would surely send you their new product for your in depth testing.
I got one for my 16” ar10. And I love it. I got it in MOA and I felt like I messed up but I don’t feel too bad cuz I’m not planning on shooting past 800. I want to stretch it to 1000 but just to see if I can do it. But it’ll be my “DMR” With this scope. I’ve comfortably shot up to 600 comfortably. My max distance at my shooting spot. For my Bergara I was considering something higher quality but I may just get another arken with higher magnification in mrad.
I really how you presented this optic. I am considering this scope but was unsure about the illumination. This was exactly what I needed to find out. Thank you 👍
That’s pretty funny. I mounted mine midday in bright sunlight and I actually thought the illumination was broken. My sight picture seems a little dim and I’m not a fan of the giant black ring around it but it’s hard to co,plain very loudly at this price point. Good review!

No one else has reviewed this scope extensively but it has a bunch of buzz because of the military contract. Mine is the SOT61236 with MOA milling turret.
I would like to see a reputable source do a honest comparison of the Arken EP5 to the Athlon Optics Helos BTR GEN2 6-24x56, the Vortex Venom 5-25x56 and Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56. These riflescopes all fall into the so called budget tier of long range riflescopes.
Great review mate , i am hoping to get this scope for my M3 problem at the moment they are not shipping to the uk gutted hopefully will do in the new year ..
Great scope indeed. But, how do you compare this to Meopta Optika 6? I have got Optika 6 4.5-27x50 sfp and it is fantastic scope for 650 USD ( in Europe). Killer in this budget IMHO.
That looks like quite a bit of chromatic aberration. Look at all the purple and green edges while zoomed in on the target. I'm going to try one regardless, seems like a good deal. Thanks for the video.
I think the scope has very clear site for picture , but the in lines in cross hairs are really thin might be a little darker and easier to see just my opinion.
great scope except for the nearly non-seeable reticle in the Gen I version (now a paperweight). It looks like they improved the Gen II, at least it appears that way for indoors viewing. Alas, I already replaced my Gen I with a Vortex, which has fantastic illumination.
I just found your video and it looked really good my question is when you are actually looking through the scope instead of with the camera can you see the reticle better?
Great review, nevertheless, If I may ask, did you Torque the rings correctly? The marks (damage) left behind on that scope is not normal. I have scopes on different .375 H&H caliber rifles and they leave a fade ring mark, not remotely close to what I see on your scope?
Thanks mate! I've been eyeing out a few of the offerings from delta. The Javelin is nice, but for the price I was hoping it would be Japanese like the Stryker HD. I'm probably going to end up getting their budget 1-6 soon. I need to know what that's like.
@@CDOES I have a Delta Skryker 4.5 - 30 x 56 and would love to see how it compares to the other optics you review. Love your reviews by the way, best on RUclips ;)
How does the 6-24 compare while in its own 6-16 power range or even 6-18. Is the glass on the 4-16 more clear than the 6-24 or is it the same until the higher magnification comes into play and the 6-24 gets darker?
Im not questioning your honesty and or ethics. What i question is whether the quality of optics you were sent is the same as the average consumer receives. In short was the one they sent you cherry picked or put through extra qc checks before being sent to you?
That is the ultimate question. I haven't personally ran into another 4-16 out in the wild. I have however ran into some 6-24's and they have more or less similar.
Thanks for these videos they are topclass. Could you maybe just put up the distances and magnification somewhere small in the corner and maybe also footage of it shooting (reacting to vibration) and a little bit of a torture test ? Thanks.
Can you review the Primary Arms GLx 6-24 scope? This budget optic really outdid itself and the PA might be another optic that can punch up in its price class!
The PA products I get my hands on don't overly wow me in one way or the other. Plus their videos don't get great views here. That doesn't mean I wouldn't review one tho if I got one!
About torture texts...kind of silly? I bought a pair of Gucci Loafers for $890 and did a "torture test " on them. They didn't do so well in the mud, gravel, rock climbing, river rafting, walking in a stream, running them over with a Humvee and throwing them from a six-story high rise. Does that mean I shouldn't buy them? I think what is important is how you plan to use your rifle scope. Maybe if you are a military sniper your requirements are different than a weekend bench shooter? If you hunt and require a very rugged scope, do your homework. We don't throw our rifles around as a rule. We try to take care of our possessions as best we can. Running over a rifle scope with a Humvee makes no sense. If your life depends on your rifle scope, buy the best one you can afford. If you simply enjoy going to the range a few times a year, you probably don't need a $3000 scope.
The 4-16 is less stress on the glass. Not trying to magnify as much. Either will be fine as long as you don't make the fatal mistake of zooming to far into a target. When you zoom too far if your micro inputs show up easier. Then whether you realize it or not, you try to correct for that. And end up making things worse. For me, less zoom means I focus more on the fundamentals and remain more consistent throughout my shots.
How does this compare to a DB Tactical 4-16 on the budget side? And then a PA GLx 4-16 or Viper 3-15x on the higher side? Arken looks very promising but being a relatively new company and hearing about the cult of RUclips it gives me apprehension.
Completely fair feeling. The DB tactical I can not vouge for. The GLx's I hear are good, but I'm just not a fan of how PA products feels. The PST ii 3-15 is great. And would make a easy transition into a razor hd if you ever wanted to. The PST is much smaller and lighter overall, and has very similar look to the glass. For a super low budget range gun I'd get the arken. For something I had to carry or rely on I'd go the PST out of those 2.
Not sure if you’ll ever see this but curious to your thoughts on getting this for 300ish or save and get the strike Eagle for 550 with the military discount? I want a scope I can grow with to some extent.
It's a pretty large gap, but the strikeeagle 5-25 is a pretty solid scope. In fact they both are. Both would suit your needs well. But I would trust Vortex's warranty first. Plus it'll hold potentially more resale value over the arken. Unless your talking about thr ep5 series. Which should technically have better glass on paper. But I do not have any personal experience behind them to give you a truthful answer. I like locking turrets and a simple zero stop. The SE has both.
@@CDOES wow what a fast reply. Thank you for that. Ya the point to me of arken is cheap price so the jump to the ep5 I feel would be better to go strike Eagle even if the debate of glass clarity is debatable between the 2. I’d go sh4gen2 just to get buy something cheaper but vortex seems like i can progress more with it and not worry even tho the Arkens capabilities are very close.
I’m curious how does one contact you to submit their personal scopes for review? I’m interested in sending you 2 scopes that you haven’t reviewed the maven rs4 5-30x56 and the newest Arken ep8 1-8 lpvo. Pls let me know I love your channel and how thorough you review.
If you had a choice of the 16x or the 24x which one would you choose taking in consideration eyebox and glass clarity I’ve always herd less zoom better the glass??
I would like to have a 4×16×50 but how do you get one they don't answer their phone and I don't know how to get into the computer business I would buy one if they would answer their phone.
Hey man love this review. I bought this scope and love the optical quality. BUT the windage turret is not very confidence inspiring. Like it sluggish at extreme left or right. And I fear its 3 screws aren't holding the rotating piece inside...
Probably a Vortex razor LHT. Much lighter than this! Unfortunately it’s a little over $1k, but you could probably find one used. Now that I think about it, Arken did release a lighter 30mm tube model that’s 24oz. for around $400. Probably not on the level of the LHT, but probably still a great value.
Great review, as always. I'm Curious as to how this compares to the arken 6-24 in terms of eyebox, glass clarity, etc? Also, any chance of a review of the Bushnell Match Pro, which is available at a similar price point to these arkens?
I've been trying to get my hands on some bushy's since I started the channel. It just seems like there are so few out there and it saddens me. I might have to but the bullet and just purchase a few... I feel this is easier and quicker to get behind. But they are pretty similar as long as you keep the 6-24 below 16
Finally a scope review that actually spends time looking through the scope at different ranges. Thanks great review

Nice review! I have the 6×24×56. It's a great scope.
How does the 6-24 compare while in its own 6-16 power range or even 6-18. Is the glass on the 4-16 more clear than the 6-24 or is it the same until the higher magnification comes into play and the 6-24 gets darker?
@C_DOES
Im not questioning your honesty and or ethics.
Great review. I don't even need this but I'm thinking about it now. LOL changing out my vortex on my 308 maybe.....
I’d love to see a review of the new Arlen EP-5
Seems like the 4-16 is a better choice than 6-24 for a beginner PRS shooter on a budget. 4-16 seems cleaner than the 6-24. Thoughts?
The 4-16 is less stress on the glass. Not trying to magnify as much. Either will be fine as long as you don't make the fatal mistake of zooming to far into a target. When you zoom too far if your micro inputs show up easier. Then whether you realize it or not, you try to correct for that. And end up making things worse. For me, less zoom means I focus more on the fundamentals and remain more consistent throughout my shots.
@@CDOES - thanks. I am ordering the Arden 4-16x 50mm for my Ruger PRS 6mm Creedmoor.. .
Everyone says the same thing “they sent it to me but I’m not gonna lye to you” lol
This scope most likely is a good 8 out of 10
Excellent review! Just place my order.
Vundaba! let me know what you think.
greqat review!! 22LR @200 Yrds is the shizzle!!
Is that the range at Blue Mountain? I thought it looked familiar.
I'm sold!
I was a little scared I wouldn't be able to shoot 100 yards/under because of the zoom but it seems to have a really good range
Do you have more info on the version with Japanese glass and no illumination?
Just that they are oos. And I really really wanna try one out!
Just bought mine for my “ar10” 762 51
Think this on my 30-06 for deer/elk. On a stock Remington 700 would you say the eye relief is comfortable?
What was the competitor scope?…. I have a new 6.5 creedmoor…. Want something that will hold up long term… love Arken reviews….. especially the Ep5
Hey man love this review. I bought this scope and love the optical quality. BUT the windage turret is not very confidence inspiring. Like it sluggish at extreme left or right. And I fear its 3 screws aren't holding the rotating piece inside...
you mentioned a japanese glass version, any info about that?
I have been seeing a few other reviews that harp on the chromatic aberration
Thanks great review.. i like Arken EP5 5-25X56 FFP and delta Stryker hd 4.5-25X56 FFP..?????? I don't know which one I have to buy.
Looking to replace my SWFA 6x42 with the EPL-4 4-16x44
Think it’ll be an improvement? Only $309 after discounts.
In your opinion, what is the best elk hunting scope under $1000. Love your videos
I expect to get my 4-16 Today, I'm gonna slap it on and go get to the range for zero, and some plinking on my 20 inch AR
What would be a comparable scope that’s lighter? These are hefty and I’m looking for a good hunting scope that’s under a grand
Just to give you 2 options the Optika6 and the PST II are smaller and lighter and offer basically the same features.
@@CDOES yea I saw your other videos and did a bit more research and went with the optika 6, it’s pretty sweet like you said
@@danklelocke the optika 6... Pretty sweet for sure!
Could this work on pcp air rifles? I mean will it be a good option 🤔
Unsure. The recoil forces of air rifles are known to destroy most optics. I cant vouch for their warranty.
@CDOES ok thanks for the info
How do you study the scope to get seited in
Which one has the japanese glass?
The EP line uses Japanese ED glass... and has not been out for many months.. sold out.
Randall got me on that question. I've tried getting one from them. But even arken doesn't have any.
Do they even make the Japanese glass ones anymore..
They are supposed to. But have been oos since forever.
Why would you use conduit to hold a steel target instead of water pipe?
How is the glass compared to a nightforce shv
How does this compare to the vortex viper pst 5-25 ?
Only of played around with s 5-25 pst a few times I can say that the PST is a more capable scope for glass. But far more expensive in retrospect.
I desperately need your help. This or a viper PST gen 2
Depends on use. Range only gun the arken. For field work the PST. It's lighter and smaller.
Seeing 35-36 ounces on their scopes. Is this correct?
If you watched to the end you'd know the precise weight it comes in at. But yes, the weight is accurate.
@@CDOES sorry, people make mistakes
@@robertnotni3668 we all do. It's acceptable
