Blake Mills Talks Strat/Tele Hybrid Guitar | Fender
/ fender
When's the artist model coming tho? Cuz i would love one
aww shit, it's blake mills!
I wonder if Lace Alumitones would go well with slide?
Too hi-fi
frustrating that it wasn't played
There's a video of him playing "If I'm Unworthy" on it
cootercaster?
I suppose, since Fender sponsored this and has their logo painted over the travel case, that they'll be offering a CooderCaster next year. Even though the fun of it is to get old Teisco and Valco pickups and put them in old bodies. THAT'S why it's cool. To manufacture them is not getting the point. Mills doesn't even play through Fenders...he plays through custom amps built by the tech he mentions...although perhaps Fender just made a lucrative endorsement deal with Mills, and that's why we're getting these Fender vids.
+simonsbuddy he uses the tweed super in the video and a blackface super reverb in his live rig
What is that in the neck pickup?
Details please
+JJ JJ It's called a Gold Foil pickup, found most commonly on Japanese-made student guitars like Teisco, Tokai, etc. Those guitars were cheaply made, but there's something about that humbucker design that's just magical. They're very clean, with a really articulate top end and a healthy dose of low mids- almost more like a Strat neck pickup than a PAF. They sound awesome.
@@ianmitchell5169 it’s a guyatone and they’re single coils. Not humbuckers
Did Brother Ray and Stevie put this together as a lark one afternoon - that is just wrong in oh so many ways?!?
No playing whatsoever? I wanted to hear it.
weird..but interesting..lol
Stop Talking! Let's hear the beauty!
"Blake Mills TALKS Strat/Tele Hybrid Guitar..."
Probably shoulda looked at the title of the video. There is, however, the follow-up video to this where he plays it, called "Blake Mills Performs "If I'm Unworthy" | Fender", now that video you'd like.
Enough goddamn strats and teles. Remember when fender gave a shit about mustangs and jaguars too?! Why don't they anymore?!
I love mustangs and jags :) Toronado's also cool. 24'75 scale guitar from Fender would be cool.
Gabe Grothaus Actually with the more recent resurgence of popularity of jags/jazzmasters. Fender is actually catering to the fans of those guitars probably more than they ever have since their release in the 60's.
His playing is great but that guitar is definately not.
MrSookazz Nothing there to hear, not even when you OD on your magic fairy farts. But you didn't hear it either since it took you 11 months, but then it's not there to begin with.
CJ99 sounds good to me
Probably the greatest reply I've seen. Not sure what the guy said since they deleted their comment. I think the guitar sounds great, but it's just a little (pretty damn) ugly.
Lots of words - said nothing. If his frankencaster is "crippling" and they can't set it up to be comfortable - esp in a dropped tuning - it should probably "live" in the dumpster. Why put up with junk? And Teisco pickups? Come on - that stuff was dimestore quality trash 40 yrs ago and still is. Sold via Montgomery Ward and the like. It sounds like crap because it is crap. No player du jour is gonna change that.
I've never played a coodercaster, but I imagine the action has to be set quite high due to the Supro pickup, which might be why he describes the guitar as being 'crippling' to play. As for the gold foil, I believe the one Blake uses is from a Guyatone guitar, not a Teisco. I've heard some great sound clips of guys using gold foils, and I don't think Ry Cooder (widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time) would have used one so extensively if they all sounded like crap. Just my two cents.
Teisco guitars were trash not the gold foil pickups. Have you ever heard a Ry Cooder record?
+Tioga Fretworks One man's trash, right?
The proof of the pudding is in the eating. I think the tone on _If I'm Unworthy_ is absolutely beastly and sweet, what brand pickups he's using doesn't change that.
When you play like that your opinion will matter
