When Steely Dan finally resumed touring in late 1993, the thing they missed most was Jeff "Skunk" Baxter's pedal steel guitar. Can't thank Mike Drassler enough for what he adds to this song.
What a pleasant surprise when I saw Mike playing the pedal steel. I watch his ut videos all the time analysing new guitars. I had not heard him play before except on his videos.
“Can’t buy a thrill” is one of my favorite albums of all time I never thought a track could be covered better than the original, but these guys did it. And the lead singers voice is perfect.
I was hoping you guys would’ve kept the faintly-heard last “brook” that accidentally made it on to the record just before the outro. More seriously guys, you are by far the best cover band of Steely Dan. No one’s even close. And the economy of your sound is one of the most impressive things about you. Steely Dan circa 1973 wouldn’t have performed this song as well as this. And to the other cuts you guys have done feature the keyboardist singing Donald’s parr’s, it’s flooring. Hard to stand in for such a unique voice. You guys do it justice. I would offer that you are among the best cover bands out there of any band.
I rarely make suggestions because I think you guys probably know which songs you want to play yourselves. But do think about "Only a fool would say that", another gem from the first album.
Just click on their Feb. 2020 concert performance at The Wildey Theater. Over 2 hours live that includes every song from "Can't Buy a Thrill" in order.
Wow. As an SD fanatic and having run two SD cover bands myself, I know how hard it is to make this music sound good. I think you're the best SD cover band I have ever heard. This is truly phenomenal. Also very interesting and unique you are guys are sans horns and focusing on that portion of the catalog. Certainly more economical that way haha.
This is the way I saw and heard Steely Dan on tour in 1974 … no horns and no female backing vocalists. The only difference was they had a second drummer in Jeff Porcaro and a second keyboardist in Michael McDonald.
@@tjblackmore7863 Crazy good, huh? Oddly enough, the one performer I had seen live before was young Jeff Porcaro. My wife and I first saw him at age 17, drumming for Sonny & Cher at a March 19, 1972 concert in Fort Wayne. Indiana. When we saw him tandem drumming with Steely Dan's Jim Hodder at the U. of Toledo on April 21, 1974, he had just turned 20. Gone way too soon at age 38 in 1992.
The pedal steel guitar lick in this song makes the entire song for me and sometimes I listen to it just for that! I of course love the rest of the song as well, that part is just so insanely memorable to me. Thanks for such an amazing cover!!! Y'all are phenomenal musicians.
I saw these guys in East Windsor, CT about a month ago. In my opinion, their music has a little country vibe going on. I bought their CD and it didn't disappoint. They are based out of Chicago; try and catch their act if you can.
WOW. just... WOW... That's all I could say while I watched this. Amazing performance and rendition of this song. Each person in this band got to showcase their own takes on their parts but each one of you also absolutely NAILED the signature riffs and nuances we all love about the original. Absolutely phenomenal job across the board! One song in and I am absolutely a Charmer's fan!
Man, you guys are phenomenal. I spent the last hour or two listening to your covers, one after another, start to finish. I doubt anyone has heard these songs played this well live or in sessions since the Dan first laid them down. Nothing but respect. A labor of love for you and a pleasure for those of us who love them too. When the virus blows over I bet there's a world of enthusiasts who would jump at the chance to see you in person.
Awesome job gents, totally nailed it! I saw Steely Dan a number of years ago before Walter Becker passed, and they were amazing, but I was mildly disappointed in one aspect of their show. They didn’t perform a single song from Can’t Buy A Thrill, which remains my favorite album by them. I’ll definitely be checking out your other videos. Cheers!
Unbelievable. Such talented musicians. I was looking for a video of Steely Dan playing this song live, but so glad I found this one. Thank you for this amazing, smooth, and faithful performance of a difficult song.
Ok. So you guys are rocking the whole Library I see. This is one of my faves from waaay back. Great vocals right out of the gate. That lead outro was awesome. I know I'm late to the party, but you're my new favorite band.

Agree---absolutely fantastic album. This song is a topper.
Never seen anyone cover this. Never mind this good! Truly Baxter's and Palmer's performance Masterpiece!
I don't like covers usually...but...WOW!!!!!!!

Omg I thought only I noticed 😂😂
Always felt this song since early teens. 26 yrs. This is a beautiful rendition

@@andyinoregon Pretty heavy hitting backup players

Yea the music is spot on and NO BACKUP SINGERS which is mind blowing. I like the bass player better than Palmer on vox.
@@stevemd6488 Better than Palmer, for sure!
Pedal steel was exceptional here ❤
Well you can't play it better than that! Great Job guys.
This is magnificent.
👍
What a beautiful voice! I too have been looking forward to this classic, and ya'll never disappoint. Wow, just dreamy!❤
Definitely. He absolutely nailed the soaring notes near the end. He should tour with Steely Dan just to perform this song. Exquisite!

Professionalism incarnate
You guys got it. Sounds so smooth
Many can't appreciate what it takes to put something like this together. I can. Fantastic job!
Wow amazing. I looked for a live version of this song and this came up. You guys captured the magic of the SD music.
