Have had a few Funny, "Man Baby" moments myself, as an Imperial Guard player, once my Dice roles were so bad (4th edition) I got my own Commissar to shoot my own men. My opponent (a good friend) said that I couldn't shoot my own models, I found it quite cathartic and thematic that the only rolls that I rolled to hit and wound was my Commissar executing members of my own army 🤣

Speaking as a 29 year old male brony, there are a lot of us as you described, and there are a lot of us who are better and worse than you’ve described. The thing is is that many of us have some problem or deficiency that we grew up with and with my little pony we’ve found something we can finally share with people and feel relatively normal.
I say “us” with the intent to exclude myself from the less agreeable descriptors but I do have to admit that I have some traits that I’ve found has been helped by a kids tv show. And frankly, that’s what the show is to me, a children’s tv show that is well written with good animation and story telling. The other fans that make music and other stuff also make good content about something I enjoy, much like the astartes videos before they sold out to games workshop. It’s content I can enjoy to make me feel happy about moving on after my friendless, unhappy, unreasonably bullied childhood, while at the same time giving me a reason at one point to not simply kill myself. I’ve since grown past this. While I don’t like what you’ve said about an interest of mine, there are parts I can agree on. That being said I have no ill feelings toward you or your thoughts.
I try to not be smelly and I try to stay clean but showering every day gets expensive and it can be difficult to not stink of machine shops and welding fumes after working full time for 7+ years, surround3d by 40 people who also work full time around welding fumes and vapourised cutting oils and carcinogenic chrome swarf.
Also like you’ve said, there are exceptions to every group and every hobby, sport, and game has bad apples, so I do think that you should go to a football game and ask yourself how many football, hockey, or curling fans are pedophiles and other shit you could be around. Even then, as a war hammer fan yourself, what could other people be thinking of you that’s not favourable, simply based on an interest? He plays with little plastic toy soldiers, oh and he plays little games of pretend with them. If someone shat on you, to me, solely based on the fact that you play with little green army men at age 25 or 40 or whatever, I’d tell the person to go fuck themself for being judgy. So don’t judge everyone else who can be considered normal and functional because we like a cartoon with a different target demographic.
Free reign on anime fans though. Go nuts

6:08 Steve Harvey has a great bit about female friends.
Says he doesn’t have female friends and that women with men as friends, the only reason they ARE friends is because it’s been made explicitly clear that NOTHING is going to happen, and they hang around and hope that one day there will be a crack in that armor they can take advantage of.

Luckily my only true rage at the game moment ended up being more funny than anything.
Rolled my 5th double one on a charge and just looked up at my friend. He said "rage?" I said "unyielding". Then we went to smash the dice, but the hammer broke instead... So we fell out laughing .

I've had a couple of discussions with my group about man-babying - (all dudes in their 30s) specifically about why does it feel bad to lose at Toy Soldiers vs any other boardgames / video games? We came to the consensus that's its because so much time is spent gathering, assembling & painting - then organising availability of people etc. So that when your freshly painted unit or army is onebanged immediately it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
For me, it's all about the setting / narrative so I don't particularly mind if my Boyz get smashed. I like to keep in mind that when you're losing, remember that your opponent's army is actually getting to do the cool, fluffy things it's "meant" to do.
This is what works for me, and I've gotten a few comments along the lines of "I'd rather play you, because I *know* it's always fun to play you", which is a very nice thing to hear.

Years ago I had a group good friends that all played 40k. On a Saturday we were all playing and I was facing off my recently built Tau against chaos marines. By the end of the game I end up winning by wiping out all the chaos models and my opponent only got one of my foot troopers in return and I felt soo bad about it. He literally only killed one of my models and it was just a trooper. Well come a week or two later we have a face off again but this time I am playing my well renowned Eldar army against his same chaos. He DESTROYS me and I never even killed a single model! It was the most glorious game ever because of the previous game that I had won. It was poetic justice against me and there was such a celebration with the whole group. I think we even paid for his dinner at a restaurant that night after gaming lol. I never before saw games like those two games where one side loses and literally doesn't kill any enemy models at all. I don't know what the odds of one game with only one kill and another with zero kills against an opponent are but it truly happened. Those games actually caused us to hang out even more together and we would always tell the story to new gamers lol.

Yeah company policy can suck an egg. My local GW store has three boxes of the old Necron Warriors; green rods. Games Workshop made the manager sign a policy that they wouldn't sell them...for some reason no one knows.
Also the actual policy of my store doesn't permit unpainted minis to be used in play. Luckily the manager ignores that policy. Those who run Grey Hordes are free to do so.

I had a game during a 7th edition tournament where we were both VERY salty. Kind of turned into a really funny event.
I was running ultramarines vs a Battalion of orks, and both our dice rolls were poor.
We were tied on points, and it was coming down to the last round and was very late. We were both getting frustrated, and managed to get into combat, my captain vs his Warboss. We were both wounded, but failed to kill.
We got to a point it was the last phase of the last turn. My counterpart channelled his inner ork, spoke in a cockney accent and said 'come at me then, space marine!' I replied 'Bring it! Ork!'
In the end the warboss carried the day, but both he and myself laughed hard at the end.
The only issue I had with him was that he would pretend to hammer onto my models with his models, without thinking it might chip/break the models. I wasn't impressed, but asked nicely for him to refrain

On gate keeping, almost every store I have been to here in the states has its stigmas, certain armies , certain play styles, for example I was looking at getting marines after leaving a third store to the mumbles about smurfs, I decided there was no point to starting a marine army if every one in my meta don't want to play it. While a fantasy player I would bring my empire list and be told I wouldn't have fun the meta was mostly choas. Like it must be a states thing but mid tier players over here are giving lessons on gate keeping

There's a girl who works at my LGS. Young, blonde, plays Warhammer, DM's her own D&D group, etc.
While I love some of the stories she tells of dudes hitting on her, guys... just stop. She's at work. She has to be nice to you. It's her job.
I'll randomly stop in and strike up a conversation about how I'm painting my minis. Sometimes I'll ask the people at the counter for suggestions of colors that would go well with my scheme and I'll pick up a pot of paint and give it a try, then bring it in when I'm done to show it off. Then I move onto my next project. I just treat her like anyone else who is interested in my painting.
Do not get me started on the Bronies at the store I go to. These guys all look like they came in from a half-way house. Disheveled and broken. They play an RPG based on MLP and they do it unironically and then they talk about it incessantly.

Perhaps you haven't encountered said people in person, but I have and to a one they do strike me as very much the type of people you would best go far out of your way to keep your kids away from. I don't know what your bronies look like, I've mainly been around cleanly shaved and showered people. Professional, organised people who work hard and like to party when the week is out. I have a few hobbies, including 40k and consuming a number of medias, and you'll see me around the gaming table either with my office shirts or any number of geeky shirts, some of which include ponies.
It usually coaxes out a laugh out of the other dudes, we throw around a couple of meaningless insults, not taking shit or offense, and go on playing a nice game of dice while doing strange voices with thick aggressive accents. The pony shirt is just another joke you can throw around, there's nothing serious going on at a game table. It's all ridiculous, we love every minute of it, and we need no help being propped up or anything.
That's most of us. What you describe is the geeky nerd type, which you'll find across all convention cultures (Ponies, comics, sci-fi, anime...). Socialy awkward types who find refuge in escapism, focussing on make believe worlds they can appreciate with other people, and who have so little going on in their lives otherwise that they eventually get funnelled into the little niches in which they find joy, and let them define their entire existence. Bronies have them because we're largely a non threatening bunch and we have the same kind of mending relations with them as the ones you describe within the Warhammer hobby, but again it's not specific to any one community. I've seen pure bred 40k players with the traits you describe. They generally mean well, and are quite agreable when you get them to open up. That's generally the first step they achieve within a hobby and that goes on opening new horizons for them as they experiment with new people and things. They're just kids inside, be nice to them and they'll thank you for it. You'll even get a few good games out of them with patience, just remember there's people under the grime.

I have to disagree with the BLM opinions. The BLM movement was only put together to bring notion to the fact that Police brutality against minorities were greater and to bring more awareness that Police officers are overworked, and given WAY to much to handle. From going to people who are mentally ill and instead of helping them, the officer on duty shoots the person having a mental crisis. There has been so many cases come to light about something like this. There are bad people in BLM who take it to far, but the overall goal of BLM is to provide better social structures that take care of people.

I have seen guys get upset because a gaming buddy would have a much better painted army, or a guy sees how to play the game differently making him above average player with good tactical mind. My only problem is not knowing how to address or mention this out loud in a positive way.
