सबसे पहले आपको बताते हैं कि ग्लेशियर क्या होते हैं और ये कैसे बनते हैं...यूं तो ग्लेशियर यानी हिमनद बहते पानी पर जमी बर्फ की एक मोटी परत होती है जो समय के साथ-साथ बढ़ती जाती है और धीरे-धीरे पहाड़ का रूप ले लेते हैं. नदी के ऊपर बर्फ के जमने से पानी का प्रवाह यानी ड्रेनेज रुक जाता है जिसकी वजह से ग्लेशियर फटने की संभावना बढ़ जाती हैं. इनमे पानी की भारी मात्रा में होता है और इसलिए जब ये फटते हैं तो नदी से आई बाढ़ से भी ज्यादा खतरनाक साबित होते हैं.

Huge woeful tragedy occurs at Joshimath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand on 7 February 2021.
Sunday on 7 February , 2021 was a day of tragic disaster at Joshimath in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand when a glacier broke off causing a massive flood in the Dhauli Ganga river. The State government as also the center were quick to rise to the occasion, responding to the tragedy effectively. Some personnel from ITBP , NDRF and Army were pressed into service , besides other necessary measures, to deal with the emergency. The tragedy has shocked the nation. Reports so far suggest that about 10 persons have died while 100 to 150 are reported to be missing. Rishi Ganga hydroelectric power project has been reportedly damaged. Also , a dam of the Tapovan power project is reported to have been breached , feared to have been either washed away or damaged. More material details may come light as the time passes.
