I have never seen such impressive collection of japanese maples! I have four maples (Atropurpureum, Osakazuki, Katsura, Aureum shirasawanum) Greetings from Germany!
I love your maple collection! May I recommend you get at least one Prunus Mume? It's a Japanese apricot that blooms in the dead of winter. Mine is in bloom right now and full of beautiful sweet blossoms.
Thanks a lot for what your doing. I'm in France and i love your videos. It would be great to give us the names for the conifers if you can. Thanks again
I name most all of them at one point in the videos but with 3 times more conifers than maples it would take to long to name them all in one video. Thanks for watching
I love it and thank you so much for giving us this amazing videos. I start collecting japanese maples after discover your channel. So far I have 20 varieties. 😊 This is gallery of Japanese maples and conifers 👍 👏
Garden is amazing! Wondering if any of your maples get eaten by a green worm that curls the leaf around it’s self and eats away especially at this time of the year? If so what do you do about it?
Yes some years insects get to trees. I try and clean them off and use the least toxic mixture if needed to spray on them. I tend to let nature try and care for itself as much as possible
Hello, love your videos!! I have a question. How close can you plant them together? In some areas of your Gardens it looks like they're planted next to one another. Thank you.
Spacing depends on the trees growing habit. I place them in triangles so they look closer to each other than they really are. I try and leave a few feet between each plant so i can walk around each one and they do not end up with a bald side
Amazing Maples and Crazy Conifers YES! That’s the one! And it’ll grow over here! Thank you! I just discovered your channel last night and fell into your wormhole. 😄 You’ve created a new fan of all these amazing trees! I was watching and pausing and typing in as many names as I could catch and then checked out a ton on your websites I’m in Michigan (Zone 6A), so I might be out of luck on some others. Are there any you know of that do particularly well here? (We get about 4-feet of snow per winter and far too many polar vortexes that can go down to -20° to -38°) Thanks again! - Kosta ✌️
You should do just fine with Japanese maples. I lived in zone 5b until a few months ago. I had 30 or so different trees and all did fine, most even with a north siting. And I never gave them any sort of winter protection. If you want absolute confidence, then choose among the hundreds of varieties that are hardy to zone 5.
I always enjoy your videos. Such beautiful trees. One question for you... I am looking to add a weeping JM to my collection and was trying to decide between Chantilly Lace, Watnong and Baldsmith. Do you have a favorite of those?
Jay - In one way those are virtually three of the same tree but with different names. There is differences but if you lost the tag on any one of them it would be very difficult to tell which tree is a specific tree. There are slight differences in sizes with Watnong being the smallest and Baldsmith being the biggest. There is slight difference in spring and fall color between the trees. Chantilly lace has the lightest spring and fall color. Baldsmith is my favorite since it grows tall and open and has one of the best deep red fall color.
@@amazingmaples I felt the same way in regards to the colors. Baldsmith's fall color is just awesome. Thank you for your response and keep the videos coming.
Barry, You sound bitter and jealous with this comment with worrying about my estate when I die. First, Real Estate is based on three things, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. What is in the garden or the wine cellar has nothing to do with the value of a house. Second, I have been selling these trees for 17 years and the trees have paid for my purple house and the the remodel of this house along with all of the inventory of trees I own. Third, in case I do die, not expected soon since I am 59 and in good shape but if it does happen my trustee would contact several plant brokers and they would gladly buy my inventory which is worth on the wholesale amount of $300 to $400K. Oh, not to mention all of my children would love to live in the house because??? It has a great LOCATION.. Best regards Charlie
I prune the trees a lot as I walk through the garden. I do my main pruning in winter and then trim them in spring and late summer to control the new growth.

I would like something cascading, around 7ft, and changing colors. What would you recommend sir? I’m in zone 7a. Beautiful collection you have there!
I like any of these Hana matoi, Baldsmith, Chantilly Lace
Amazing Maples and Crazy Conifers - Thank you!
Do I think I can obtain a garden like that In zone 6a? I current have all trees that are 3-6 years old in pots that go in the garage over winter.
I would think you could have them in the ground but protect them from cold dry winter wind.

Do you think exposing the root flare is beneficial for Japanese Maples? Thanks for the videos!
i try and keep the root flare exposed as much as possible. I like the looks and it supposedly keeps the tree from being attacked by insects
Whats that green one wit big leafs at 4,26 to 4,30 next to purple ghost?
That is Acer japonicum 'Otaki' one of my favorite trees
Just an fyi but I had trouble playing this video like some of the earlier ones this season. The last few had been fine though.
That's interesting since this video was done with samsung s10 and the others were with an older samsung??
How old would the big waterfall in this video be, approximately?
I am not sure but I would guess it is in it mid 30's possible close to 40 years old
It's going to take an extremely special buyer to purchase this home when you die.

How big is that mikawa, is it normal?
The Mikawa is about 8' tall and 8' wide. As for normal, yes when they are very old and have been grown in a very fertile soil
Do you prune all of them or let them grow naturally? I have an Acer I have never seen before (hello bark with red/orange leaves (in spring) . Thanks!
I prune the trees a lot as I walk through the garden. I do my main pruning in winter and then trim them in spring and late summer to control the new growth.
What an amazing garden thank you for sharing..
I’ve been waiting.....
Thank you! Gives me a great frame of reference.

many wood chips causes diseases that will kill these trees, even the best growers dont know all without being tagged
Beautiful
