Terry has a story that sounds kinda familiar. I grew up on a dairy farm in rural NC at my grandpa’s. Divorced parents kind of let them raise me. I enlisted in March of 89, arrived at my reception battalion at Ft. Benning on the 1st of July, started training in the 4th. Half way through 11B training I was “selected” to do additional training. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. Losing Atomic Annie wasn't the only time the Army lost a 100 ton weapon. The T28/T95 super heavy tank was "forgotten" in a field near Aberdeen for 27 years. The picture of the condition it was found in shows it hiding behind a bush. A small bush.

I remember watching captain Philips in theater. After the hole sequence were the sniper lined up. The whole theater made a shocked noise. I was sitting there what do you think was going to happen.
Another attempt to get my oldest nephew on... First enlistment, was in Bosnia for his first tour. Then was a local (Monroe county Michigan) bailiff in the Juvenile Court before he got married and reenlisted right away from his wedding. That tour, the easiest thing in the Navy. Ship's historian on the USS Constitution in Boston harbor (there's a mannequin there in period dress, which looks like him at his age then. ) Then, back to the Army, originally supposed to stay in Germany, and got sent to Afghanistan. Where he got his purple heart. Became a sergeant, but ended up in Colorado after the Army with a military contractor. His reasoning? "I was in the same uniforms, using the same weapons, similar work. With overtime. "😁 He finally got out of that, back near much to his family (they live in Northern Monroe county, Michigan and he and his wife and kids (he adopted her most of the kids from her family. Ultimately I think 10, total. He has been, if I remember correctly, got several medals (either 2 purple hearts and the Silver Star, or the other way. Had a convoy hit an IED, after he'd get a sergeant...) I think he's kinda like a cross between Eli and the Fat Electrician. Got good stories, I'm sure, and big on military history. Was the ship's historian on the USS Constitution. And he's seen combat in several theaters... He's in Clinton, Michigan now. Less than an hour away from his mom's home. Name is Nathaniel (Nathan or Nate) Brown. His initial reasoning? "I want to fight American enemies." And his son is currently in the US Marines.

If you got one of those vets on, that would be a cool story.
The boys need to talk to more of old guys I joined the USAF in Oct 1991, became a Security Policeman (was too tall to be aircrew), went to Germany, first deployment Mogadishu, Somalia Jan 93. Retired Nov 2011. Have to make sure my stories don’t violate OPSEC, COMSEC or statute of limitations….
My rules of engagement revolved around protecting air operations. My rules were 1) if an armed Somali is on the airfield, neutralize the threat. 2) if a technical vehicle can affect air operations on base or off, neutralize the threat. 3) Engage muzzle flashes as needed. Or follow the use of force model at the time that consisted of opportunity, intent, capability.
54:51 this is why the military should SERIOUSLY genuinely evaluate bulpup rifles for some applications. They’re already going to retrain on a new platform. They may as well train with a bulpup for urban and vehicle applications. At least the SEALS have the need for it.

SMAW-NE
HLC I feel ya 😂 I was in Delta 1/46 at Knox for basic and we were in red phase until our last week of basic because guys kept getting caught selling pain pills, doing pills, dipping/smoking etc.. our senior DS Evans said we were by FAR the worst platoon he ever had.
And he was all calm and serious when he said it, like out of concern not anger. 😂
I can't remember the last time I saw an episode without Cody.
Definitely back in the Baddie days, that’s the last time I can remember
Y’all get such interesting guests that really are outstanding communicators.
I’m so waiting for the Kevin episode. With all the weather coming in to the Midwest this would be a great week to drop two videos
Happy New Year to all at Unsubscribe and thank you for the info and laughs! 😂 😮 Y'all need to get Danica Patrick on sometime! 😊 Much love from Oklahoma! ❤
I remember watching captain Philips in theater. After the hole sequence were the sniper lined up. The whole theater made a shocked noise. I was sitting there what do you think was going to happen.
Great episode. I hear you about the sadness of lossing friends. I hope everythung works out for Terry and his friends and family.
He finally got out of that, back near much to his family (they live in Northern Monroe county, Michigan and he and his wife and kids (he adopted her most of the kids from her family. Ultimately I think 10, total.
He has been, if I remember correctly, got several medals (either 2 purple hearts and the Silver Star, or the other way. Had a convoy hit an IED, after he'd get a sergeant...)
I think he's kinda like a cross between Eli and the Fat Electrician.
"I want to fight American enemies."
And his son is currently in the US Marines.
01:33:41 I went to Nike Intermediate School in Kansas, named that way because it was the site of a Nike Hercules control center! We always joked as kids that it was still in operation and the missile silo was under the gym floor.
Man, the Navy SEAL failure isn't here for this one to hear how awesome it would have been if he didn't go home to play Skyrim
“Oh cool, you saved Jessica Lynch?” “Anyway, have you heard of bat bombs”
Ethan is correct about the tv static with tangerines lol.
Yet another awesome episode, always look forward to your guys uploads.
47:00 Nick just probing for RESEARCH for his channel
Lol, can yah blame the guy? It's rare to get to shoot the shit and talk some shop with guys from before your time. A lot that are out don't like to talk about anything, so it's nice to get to learn from the guys before you, especially the cool toys your group never got a chance to learn about let alone use.
This was an awesome episode gentleman. I love learning new stuff & hearing the awesome stories.
Annnnnnnnd errands day just got a whole lot better!!!
“Honey, I’m doing errands for the next two hours!!!”
Sunsub: Making better husbands since 2021.
I love how Terry describes where he grew up. Every one I know that grew up around northern Indiana says where it is in relation to South Bend.
First of the year and it’s looking like we are starting strong!
HLC's reference to Arkansas nuclear mishap happened at a Titan missile site near Damascus in 1980. There are books and documentaries about it. PBS American Experience episode Command and Control is based on Eric Schlosser's book. Interviews with people who were there.
I have no idea why I am watching on RUclips instead of pepperbox. But god I love this fucking podcast
This was one of the most engaging and enjoyable podcasts in the last year, and that's saying a lot given some of the absolute bangers last year

Also, our editors are awesome, and we love you, Trout..
😅 I was just raised on Rainbow Trout... so... yep.. I have to respect a man named Trout !
Man you guys need a bigger table. Like every 3 months just add an extra chair because I want HLC as a more regular guest
Also, I can’t remember their name but I saw a video about Helene relief, and they were talking about how they got involved with some veterans who were running a very large relief effort and they were taken aback by the amount of recon info they were getting. If you got one of those vets on, that would be a cool story.
The Guam capsizing guy was Hank Johnson, a Dem Rep out of Georgia.
1:23:14 totaled my car to this part🥰 drive safe guys
This one is hitting all the tisms, history, special forces, ballistics, missiles, great episode.

23:44 someday I hope to find somebody that looks at me the way Eli looks at Uncle Kevin 🤣
I met Terry when I was in 8th grade since he's a friend of my science teacher's son. He told us about this story and his involvement during his visit. That was damn near 7 or 8 years ago.
