Very good interview Narasimha (reddy ;) garu. I really appreciate the way you questioned and moved the interview forward with timely adjustments touching different dimensions.
I just wanted to touch upon the topic about movie critics. I think there is no right/wrong approach here as both sides can argue to their strengths and weakness. One good analogy that you made from the critics point of view was 'in order to say the curry is good or bad (or some other fault), you don't need to be a chef.
Critics argue that they have the right to say if the movie is good or bad as it helps the audience to save their purse and time. To some level, it appears to be right. Most directors will not talk bad about reviews if the movie was successful and mostly when the reviewers right positive about their movies. More often we see blame game from the flop movie related people.
From the director's point of view, it was about about the critics expertise and lack of constructive criticism. Mr. Teja rightly said that it was unfair for the critics to give a rating even before the morning show finishes as many lives depend on the outcome of a movie. It is very hard to digest for anyone to see critics tearing their 1- 2 years hard work into pieces in an hour after release.
In my opinion, the reviews impact is more on the flop or below-average movies as their revenues are badly affected. We also see examples of reasonably good movies running successfully despite critics negative reviews and on the other hand critically acclaimed movies biting the dust. In this current digitalised world, there is no way to stop the talk of a movie as people start sharing on twitter/Facebook right from the theater previews the day before release in India. Forget about websites, even (mostly biased and corrupt) TV channels criticise the movies on the very first day that can influence the position of a movie. Leaving aside the overseas collections, I am not sure how much a review on a website can really influence the ordinary common cinema loving man in Telugu speaking states.
Some undergo tremendous stress/pain for years to get their movie out of the boxes to see strong negative criticism within no time and their happiness doesn't last even for an hour. Critics might be professionally right but in my opinion they are 'morally' wrong. Even though it is impossible to implement in this highly competitive world, may be a 3-day 'review holiday' would be appropriate in the interest of both the parties. As I previously mentioned, there is no right/wrong on any one side and this tiff keeps continuing.
I like the interviewer, He's very good at asking the right questions at the right time and thinks quick. Please put him in all the interviews with Male Directors or Heroes
