  • Earlier in the month, Atari announced they would be adding more games to the Atari 50 collection. While the compilation already had a strong lineup of games, there were still some gaps to be filled. But now the update is here, and we know what games were added. Did they make the right call with the new additions, and should it sway your opinion on whether you pick up this collection?

The more I see what Atari is doing, the stronger I believe that the guys that are running the company are trying to return Atari back to the level they once were in the industry. Also, by adding 12 new free games sends a positive message to the fans. Like hey, thanks for buying our new products, so here's a bit of a bonus for being loyal customers. I like the direction Atari is moving in.

Now if only they'd look into the 2600/5200/7800 homebrew community and decided to publish good original homebrew games as official Atari products... Would buy to support both the Atari and the devs.

7800 Food Fight is a glaring omission. To me, it was a killer app on that system (by mid 1980s standards, but still a great game). I would actually gladly pay for it as DLC.

I played that on the XE. I feel like, if you want one thing to represent the XE era (such at it was) ya got Food Fight or Ballblazer. But - yeah. I played the XE version of Food Fight growing up, and I turned out okay an’ never robbed a bank or nuthin’.

    • @LordelX

Agreed. The omission of the 2600 version of Berserk also hurts. I'd pay for Food Fight and Berserk.

@@LordelXRegarding Berserk, they may not have rights to it anymore. No idea why Food Fight is missing, maybe it breaks the emulation or something?

You mention that you "have to use" a Pro Controller for analog/paddle games. That's supported, but so are the analog sticks on JoyCons. More importantly, you can use the touchscreen on Switch for paddle and trakball games -- that's always on by default for handheld play. If you haven't tried it, do! And don't forget Touch Me, which...you can actually rotate to vertical mode with the R bumper and then physically touch.

Nice video! I enjoy your laid-back presentation. I am happy that Atari is supporting their customers. I would not mind if they did end up releasing DLC. If they released some licenced content like Activision, Parker Bros. etc. - that would be amazing. I would really love to see some of the MIA Universal games like Mr. Do!. The could also add some indie games, like the port of Ladybug from Champ Games. Who wouldn't find that exciting???

Adventure was one of my first games that wasn't generic for the Atari VCS (as it was known before the '2600' was added to the name) from late 70's early 80's, back when your imagination had to do half of the work. This was a game for thinkers and problem solvers and DnD players. Playing this sequel is like playing the original for the first time all over again. RPG and adventure games owe their very existence to this game. This video is excellent as is most of yours, but don't sell short the fan base which was and still is astronomical for Atari classic games, and especially for Adventure.

The paddle games can use the touchpad on PlayStation. This is actually how I discovered that the touchpad is completely useless: there’s no comfortable way to hold the DualShock/DualSense and use the pad at the same time.

Circus Atari has got to be one of the first survival horror games ever as you are playing as 2 victims as they playing a game of breakout on a seesaw as they must complete the level to win as if one of them loose that they will have their head smash on the ground as you can see blood everywhere. It's the ultimate game of survival in a Saw like puzzle.

To be frank I only got this collection for Cybermorph, Atari Kart, and Tempest 2000, every other games on here are a bonus to me. I would had bought these three games on their own even if they are not part of the collection. Only disappointment I see here is that they didn't include any Jaguar CD games such as Battlemorph, Primal Rage, Hover Strike: Unconquered Lands, and Blue Lightning otherwise the rest of the collection are damn worth it.

The whole package looks like a laughable ripoff to me, TBH: costs as much as a console, and unless you're happy owning it so that you can show off the cover art on a shelf… there's just no point in owning emulated Atari _anything_ in this format.
