Total justice done. There will forever be only one Marvin Gaye but she really brought it. With all respect to Mr. Gaye, rest his soul, her cover simultaneously evokes all the emotion of the original and can stand on its own.
As much as I love the Marvin Gaye version, I almost always choose this version for my playlists. I thought she nailed it when she did it, and still think that.

I listened to this EVERY time it was on the radio back in 86-7. It's a crying shame it's not played anymore. I know her big hit True Colors gets 95% of the airplay, and Change of Heart gets the rest for songs from this album, but this is a hidden GEM of a song. So powerfully done both stylistically and emotionally.
I know I heard "i drove all night" and, strangely, "yeah yeah" somewhere before ,though...because I recognized them when I first heard of her and looked up her songs.

I know right? Even the vid is a great piece of artwork. I am stunned at how great this vocal and music is every time it comes up in my rotation - stunningly soulful, she truly is a great of our time because she has real emotion in what she's singing.
