This is absolutely the best show on TV period. It's better then Breaking Bad. The actors are unbelievable, the writing is fresh and new and best of all it's not the same old Lawyer, cop, doctor, drug etc dribble that we have to endure year after, year. Thank YOU!!!!!
I think it's a tough call to say this is better than Breaking Bad. I've come to believe they are different but equal. Of course, BB was so unbelievably good and fresh that it had that going for it... it just brought so much new to our worlds... after BB I was demanding more from my shows and The Americans stepped up. Tough choice. Both great shows. I think the finale of the Americans will stay with me more... BB felt like more of a fantasy ride, this felt deeper. so great
Matthew is so wonderfully interesting and articulate and can seemingly talk about anything, but the added attraction which captivates the listener is his delightful Welsh accent and delivery.
We (me and my wife) Are Astonished By This Show on Tv!! My sons follow things like 'Bates Motel', '13', but I don't find them even close to 'The Americans'. I Am a Great Fan of Keri and Matthew. I love Them!
Thanks for posting. Totally enjoyed this. One of my favourite shows. Love the dynamic between Keri and Matthew , she seems completely besotted by him. ❤️
""The Americans" is easily one of the most interesting and compelling stories that I have ever watched. The storyline is engaging and fast-paced with numerous, unexpected twists and turns that keep it interesting from one week to the next, and the characters are brought to life by excellent performers. I normally don't get wrapped up in long-running stories, but this series has me enthralled. In my opinion, it could run longer than its pre-set duration, and would continue to be watched by an ever-increasing fan base.
It's really one of the best shows. I think the writing is so good, not just for what we'd call the main plots in each episode, but all of the character development that goes into their family and friends. It's so real. One other reason for the show's success is the demonstration of characters willing to do anything for their cause, and they give validation to both sides very well.
Strikes me as typically American that 2010 would be considered a long time ago, both in 2016 when this conversation happened, and now, when I am writing it.
Great panel, loved hearing their thoughts on everything. The moderator got a tiny bit better as time went along, but really, some of these hosts need training or practice on asking questions, responding to questions, formulating thoughts succinctly into questions, etc.
finally , its up to watch.. Mathew seemed pretty quiet on this one.. cant wait for more.!! thanks for this! wish I had known about this, as I m in nyc. is there any americans fan page that would send me info..? would love to see them filming!!
OK yes it's better than Breaking Bad! This isn't the argument, Breaking Bad was terrific and uniquely original. The Americans shatters one of Hollywood's (NOT present day Hollywood) all-time greatest villains by flipping the script under the textbook definition of taboo. Maybe I'm biased because many of my favorite shows come out of Fx Bin, The Shield, Rescue me, Justified & even the short canceled life of The Riches. Need I say The Americans is my fav? All original and some wildly original, which can't be found on network television.
Can anyone help me out to understand what Keri says in 45:16? She's talking about Elizabeth and says “I do love her. I think she’s...absolutely…and I love all the…ref?? edges??? (That doesn't make sense, I know). I just don't get it, I'm not anglophone...Thanks in advance.
I never say this, because I sympathize with how hard it must be to host one of these things. But man, was that moderator bad. So very, very bad. I guess his most obvious minor crimes would be beating good jokes by other people to death instead of letting them just live and move on, missing/not comprehending any subtle allusions (the Biblical thing about the baby clearly went 100% over his head, despite his audience), and latching on to follow-ups on questions he should let go while rushing on from ones that could have used smart follow-ups, etc etc. But the biggest of the big crimes would be: I can't think of one smart point he elicited; all of the smart points - and there were many - were made in spite of him, by these guys choosing to answer the good questions he didn't ask, not the bad ones he did. It's a measure of how much I love this show that I was able to make myself keep watching this thing to the end.
He's definitely too interested in himself. A good moderator should form the shape of the discussion, and know where to push and where to back off. Instead, He seems to want to be as involved in the discussion as the panelists.
Generally speaking, the FBI is shown in a somewhat negative light in The Americans and sometimes even depicted as outright incompetent. In a way, that mirrors the controversy that has always existed about the Bureau which, despite being primarily a federal law enforcement agency tasked with handling ordinary crime, was nonetheless also dragged, especially after World War II, into a secondary counterintelligence role which was not its area of expertise nor its core mission. That is quite evident in the show for example in the different cultures of secrecy that exist in the FBI counterintelligence division (for example, Stan) and the foreign intelligence services like the CIA (for example, Kimmy's father) or the KGB (for example, Philip and Elizabeth). Other countries of course, most notoriously the United Kingdom, have opted instead to vest the counterintelligence task in specialized agencies that are separate from law enforcement, in the case of the UK, the Security Service more commonly known by its old name MI5. Although MI5 had memorable blunders when it was infiltrated by the Soviets during the Cold War, I think the general consensus among experts still is that having a specialized agency leads to superior counterintelligence tradecraft compared to the dual-task FBI model. The flipside, however, is that, since agencies like MI5 lack police powers, they can conduct counterintelligence, surveillance and covert activities gathering information (more traditional "spycraft" so to speak), but have to rely on coordination with the police services (for example the Special Branch of the Metropolitan Police in the London area) for actions such as gathering evidence (as opposed to information), arrests and even interrogations, which the FBI can do alone. As always, there are then pros and cons in any model. Still I think the show exposes the vulnerabilities of the FBI vis a vis the KGB for example in a rather blunt way, maybe a little bit exaggerated.
I’m the opposite. To me, the daughter is the only SANE person in the entire freaking show. By the end of season 5, I really wanted nothing more than Elizabeth to die a horrible death. I think she actually enjoyed killing people and she is a self centered puppet bitch.

@@vv.k5992 homeland sucks and is unrealistic
great show but Mad Men was the best
Seriously, this show is so under-rated, doesn't get nearly the attention it deserves.
Agreed
Jessy C agree 100%!
Matthew is so wonderfully interesting and articulate and can seemingly talk about anything, but the added attraction which captivates the listener is his delightful Welsh accent and delivery.

Show has its ups and downs, but it's well-written and the acting is phenomenal.
Best show on T.V.

That “IS MARTHA OK ?!?!” written in all caps is the only the Americans mood that’s valid

Thank you for uploading :D
I really wish they spoke more about Nina. I felt like they just brushed her character away.
Agree

My favorite three TV shows: 30 Rock, The Americans, South Park.
What do they have in common? The writing.

Ana Paula Thanks a lot!

I love Keri and Matthew, but the role of their daughter drives me crazy. What a whiner. 😤

I wanted way less Paige.
Dam she's HOOOOOT 😂
The louboutins 😍
this interviewer is so bad at formulating questions :/
Is it me or does the interviewer have a lisp? So annoying...
Keri should go back to Scott Speedman
Lol ok
I don't think so 😏
