In Nepal, we have three living goddesses: The Kumari, Ganesh and Bhairav. The first one was Ganesh second was Bhairav and the last chariot was of Kumari. The big red-haired is Majipa lakhya, who is said to be the protector of children in Kathmandu and clears the way for the Kumari chariot.
How can any small girl as kumari is living goddess? Only stupid people will believe her as a goddess. That's just money earning and kumari girl life wasting rituals done by ktm people. If that is like shamanism where devta come in the body then only call her living goddess. Stop pointing that as Nepal living goddess, just called ktm people living goddess.
In Kathmandu valley, there are three different living goddesses who live inside of the three different durbar squares and the first one you guys saw is Ganesh, second one is Bhairav and the last one is the main Kumari who lives inside of the Kathmandu durbar square.😉
Yes, there are other Kumaris in those places as well, but at that time, I was only referring to those inside the Kathmandu Valley. I don't think Panauti and Nuwakot are within the Kathmandu Valley, but yes, Bungamati is, and I'm surprised to learn there is a Kumari there as well, which I didn't know about. I was only trying to clarify the major Kumaris they saw during the Indra Jatra, nothing more. But you guys are also right. Thanks for the information.
Nepal is probably the most unique place in the world culturally and naturally… we worship women in Nepal!!! Unlike some other places things just happen to them
The buildings you are addressing are not actually buildings, they are temples. and some of the singing and dancing you see [7:43 ]are not part of Indra Jatra festival. They are random people who have migrated to the city and are trying to enjoy the festival. With time, people could mistake this as part of the festival because the native Newars are slowly becoming minority in Kathmandu itself.

There are actually 3 chariots, one for Lord Ganesh (the elephant god), one for Lord Bhairab (fearsome for of Lord Shiva) and one for Kumari (the living Goddess). Kumari shant smile during her time as the living goddess and always has the neutral look on her face so that's how you can distinguish between the 3 different chariots.
The power going out kinda made the whole thing scary. We have a saying in Nepali that translates to "Crowd doesnt have eyes", so be safe around huge crowds especially when its dark.
Visit kirtipur next guys ... It's a typical newari town basically situated on one big rock or hill it also used to be a separate city state like kathmandu, before unification of Nepal ... You will get a nice view of the ktm valley from there ... Basically kirti means glory in nepali And have some newari cuisines in newari restaurants like sasha, it means in laws house in newari language...try some thooo ..rice beer and sapu micha there... , Syombhunath stupa is also a good place for viewing the 180 degree view of valley from top of the hill ... It's also One of the UNESCO cultural heritage site thousands of years old .
You could simply ask a local about what’s happening. The people there are very friendly, and most speak English. Start a conversation, and they’ll be happy to answer your questions, like what the festival is about, where to find the best views, or why everyone is wearing red on their foreheads, rather than wandering around feeling lost.
Indra Jatra is a lively and colorful festival celebrated in Kathmandu, Nepal, mainly by the Newar community. It is held to honor Indra, the Hindu god of rain, and to give thanks for the end of the monsoon season. The festival includes exciting events like the parade of the Living Goddess Kumari in a beautiful chariot, traditional dances with people wearing masks, and the raising of a tall ceremonial pole. It is a time for families and the community to come together in gratitude for the rain that helps their crops grow. Indra Jatra is not only a religious celebration but also a cultural festival that showcases the unique traditions and vibrant spirit of Kathmandu.
btw u didnt saw kumari you sa ganesh in indra jarta there are 3 living god and goddes 1st ganesh 2nd bhirab 3rd kumari and actually tomorrow is the last day of indra jatra
I’m very so much sorry abt the inconvenience push by the crowds and small space for people to roam . Kathmandus urban structure and way of building roads space is very not so good and the kumaris has to go through these small space roads to reach up their final destination and everyone’s in a hurry cus it has to reach its final destination in time and crowded people and many push happens while pulling the kumaris wheel structure

Momo and Thukpa's name comes from the Tibetan language. But Momo is more popular in Nepal than in Tibet as a snack.
