    Doing that with a stick welder and no special tools like a lathe - respect!
    There is always more than one way to do it as it seems.

    Don't compare the Modern Dc Inver wider with the older stick you can weld thin body panels with these welders, As shown with the clean welds by Excellent craftsmanship 👍

    Ah the old banding steel's mission he sure is doing a quality job of it. Been a while since I've done banding now days I just buy wider barrels from a company that sells them for circle track racing then just cut the center from the original barrel on a lathe press it in the new barrel on a jig & weld it. It actually ended up being more cost effective because much less welding & hours involved plus the barrel's are one piece so there super strong

    • @mikefpe
      @mikefpe  5 лет назад

      What sizes can you get the barrels in? to do that we would need a big arse lathe next really.

    • @troydavies3225
      @troydavies3225 5 лет назад +1

      @@mikefpe I'm not sure of the entire size range but the common ones I dealt with mostly 15&16 inch diameter's & between 8&14 inches in width. The lathe I used was cobbled together out of old school metal spinning lathe I modified for reconditioning alloy wheels so it had multiple uses it had a reasonably deep bed but was fairly short overall you could probably setup that grinding jig to do it though ya just need to get the center out of the stock barrel with out mincing it up

      I had that done in 1984 in America.
      It was done by the same guy that did it for my dad back in the 1950’s.
      I can hear your head making a popping sound as you pull it out, Lucian.
      Just because you just discovered it doesn’t mean it didn’t exist before…

    i,d say the mig is quicker but stick welds are a harder facing,when grinding back the mig welds,they are very soft,,stick welds are more time consuming to dress back,,at my work anything structural is always stick welded,,modern inverter welders even make my welds look acceptable lol

    what gauge steel are you using? i'm trying to get set up to do VW stock steels for my bus and bus. i made a jig for my tire machine and i have a rim cut. i can't find a slip roller that will do more than 18 gauge but my rim's thickness appears to be 11 gauge. i'm curious if the band needs to be the same thickness as the rim's original thickness..

    HI ZEWSPEED CREW A BIG HELLO FROM SCOTLAND,
    i loved this video very informative and a master welder at work he couldve made it easier job using diff tools BUT max respect you did it old school with arc welder couple home made jigs using fiesta hubs with all diff stud p,c,d sizes i think your both missing a trick get a tidier jig set up put a patent on them turn into sellable items as would sell worldwide dont try dont get guys???
    NOW REAL QUESTION now is there anyway too make a 13inch steel wheel a larger size say 15inch by welding face of wheel to another wheel say 15 with big lip before bolts on car cut bolt pattern etc out and add 13inch wheel centre inside bigger wheel im in the process of getting the parts together to build mk1 fiesta very similar looks too beige fiesta owned vy one of you when i was 18 in 1990 i had a mk1 fiesta supersport in diamond white with red carla interior and stripe with custom pack as arches were dirt and water traps that ended in rust when car was 10 yrs old i bought it needing arches etc i got a fibesports z pack and fitted that as id a signal green xpack mk2 escort mexico id built from 14 to 17 yrs old on the fiesta i had it resprayed diamond white bought supersport graphics as well as the series x graphics ford had for xpackcars wheels i had were 7.5x13 rs 4 spoke ronal alloys and 7x13 fronts wide rs wheels were rare back then but id 4 7x13 and 4 7x15s spare from my mexico as itd same look lol loved that car wish never sold it then car was stolen during restoration BGG 999X last taxed around1999 yet i was told car had reappeared down south by someone who knew my car but one he saw was standard not x pack so if you have bought a white supersport BGG 999X its stolen from small town outside Glasgow and owner will reposess unless a deals came too anyway back to you guys at zewspeed car im building this time will be mk2 fiesta (prob cvh of some sort)but change front end to mk1 and tailgate and fit x pack bodykit as mk2 cvh shell makes life easy putting zetecs etc in nut n bolt job basically but as youll know mk1 chassis legs at front too narrow for cvh/zvh conversions so i want best of both worlds mk1 looks but mk2 improvements ill tub rear so can fit bigger wheels and tyres id love a set of 15inch ford rostyle wheels with chromecross centres and banded too around 15inches high by 10 inches wide rear and 15x8 fronts if not rostyle we called them seventies sports the steel wheels fitted to cortinas mk4,5 rs2000 and mexico mk1 and 2 steel wheels original are 13 inch and from 5.0 5.5 and 6.0 was flat wide rims usually with chrome rings and centrecaps before wheeltrim days with sierras etc any of those style classic rims can you guys make a 13inch high wheel into a 15inch or above even if i got rostyles id chrome wheels and enamel in black bits if can do send me a price and lets get talking as dont care if have parts waiting on right car im supposed to look at xr2 with rsturbo engine and box has some rust at front cpl dents too on e reg 88 if shells good underneath and in places that rot ill buy it as front will be changed kit took off so ill sell turbo engine and ancilleries keep gearbox as lsd sell xr2 bumpers and bodykit wheels (rs7spokes13inch) and use cash for buying a mondeo 2.0 zetec fit it in bay with stand alone ecu but once built ill run into ground and use abuse but next builds spaceframed front to rear and rear wheel drive it using mk2 escort parts like ford built the fiescort i cant afford the bda rs200 engine lol keep up good work and any help on wheels or addvice how to make 13in become 15 or 16 id be greatfull but genius on your jigs and ideas wanna see dragons den so goodluck and stay lucky to you and your familys brian

    Why go through the trouble of building bands when there's so many wheels at the salvage yard available..just cut out the width you need from rim of proper diameter... that is how I have made my rims to fit with the desired width...I will even just use my center section in a hoop of a different brand if it is right width...
