Love Chris. He was always my favourite Byrd. Longest crush on history I think!!! Love to see him play live again someday before I get too old! Please come to the UK again!! 🙏🇬🇧 X
Ran into him at the Guitar Center Rancho Cucamonga several years ago, I was having a 12 string Strat set up, he seemed rather bemused by this instrument and chatted myself and another player in the acoustic guitar room, showed me how George Harrison did the opening chord for hard days night and listened to a impromptu rendition of I don't want to spoil the party by the Beatles. Shared his time and was very gracious.
Chris Hillman is one of my favorite recording artists of all time. The music of the Byrds, Manassass, the Flying Buritto Brothers, Southern Hillman & Furay, the Chris Hillman Band, the Desert Rose Band, & his solo Bluegrass Period are very important to me. Sorry fans of the McGuinn, Clark & Hillman. I have always had problems with the music put out by that band, even though the band is made up of 3 guys I respect. Thanks for posting this show.🤗✌
Went to high-school and was in the same class, I think, I'm sure he doesn't remember me but it doesn't matter, it's taken me 50 years to appreciate how talented he is! Love his history and music!
Amazing interview and retrospective on the heart of L.A. music. Super good playing and singing here too. So easy...so real. Thanks Mr. Hillman and Mr. Pedersen...Blessings to both of you...Ed
Hey Chris I don't know if you reading these comments or not thank you for these wonderful interviews thank you for all the wonderful music down through the years I'm 67 and have travel this journey with you as a young man now to an older man and I appreciate you so much thank you my friend for all the great memories you are one of the good ones may we worship Christ together someday over there.
Chris Hillman another musical icon! Why no mention of his teaming up with Steven Stills in Manasses? Hillman is a good soul, I loved his band Desert Rose too.
It was all over the music news way back when Manassas was formed ! That chris hillman joined the band. Cos i remember Joe lala and gregg reeves ! Quite amused sInce gregg reeves was in CSNY
Even though it was a one-time only thing, the original lineup of The Byrds did perform a full-length version of Mr. Tambourine Man at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in 1991. McGuinn, Crosby, and Bob Dylan also performed a live full-length version of the tune at Dylan’s 30th Anniversary Concert tribute special later that same year. Great shows!
'Have seen Chris 2x in concert. (With his great friend Herb Pedersen.) Such a great guy, great musician. Some trivia: Both Gram Parsons and Chris lost their dads to suicide. I think it was another thing that bonded them.
Chris Hillman is one of the greats of country-rock, his 'Morning Sky' (1982) being my all-time favourite bluegrass album, 'Bakersfield Bound' (1996) occupying a similar spot in the country genre. He's on good form here, displaying fine acoustic guitar skills & talking freely about his early career, in particular. Highlight is his final rendition, Sin City. It sounds so good, in fact, it made me wish he'd re-record Gilded Palace of Sin in acoustic vein, as the original production, to my mind, leaves plenty of scope for improvement.
Bakersfield Bound.....I recently stumbled upon that record. I have never known too much about bluegrass and that style of country music. But i adore every track.
Chris Hillman es un músico 5 * * * * *. Y una buena persona. IN 1998 HE WROTE A SONG CALLED " I'M STILL. ALIVE" ( LIKE A. HURRICANE ALBUM) ( track 11) TO ONE OF HIS OLDEST FRIEND WHO WAS IN A HOSPITAL ...
I always was enthused with Chris's bass playing. It kinda looked like he was strumming the bass although I know he wasn't but I never could get the hang of his style. Anyway, I like his music and I really like this song he did on this program, Sin City. I had never heard it before. He is a very good musician.
With respect Maureen: I have spoken Chris, Roger, Croz over the years as a music writer, but by far the nicest was Gene. He was a gent, put me at ease and bought me a beer.

Great, great, great! Thank you very much!
Master musician....
Outstanding on mandolin, too. Fine, fine musician. Should have sung more in The Byrds
Wow!, That was a Great Opening Song !!!
Subtle, elegant, and intense it is.

I absolutely love Chris Hillman!!
And he became one the greats on Bass in Rock History!
Went to high-school and was in the same class, I think, I'm sure he doesn't remember me but it doesn't matter, it's taken me 50 years to appreciate how talented he is! Love his history and music!
What an amazing guitar player... WOW.

The nicest and extremely talented of the Byrds
McGuinn is actually VERY nice, too, but they are both great guys.

Love his anecdotes! His bass playing on Younger Than Yesterday was groundbreaking!!!
As was his songwriting on that album. Have You Seen Her Face? remains my all-time favorite Chris Hillman composition.
Yes, his bass playing on that album is outstanding! (and on Notorious Byrd Brothers).
@@munimathbypeterfelton6251 Yes!

John Jorgenson 😍🎸😍

Manassas was a high quality double disc, and Hillman was a large part of the great sounds

Wedding ring on one hand. Orthodox prayer rope on the other wrist. That's a big part of this man's story and his music.
Just wow. That forgiveness song . That really moved me, What a spectacular individual Chris is. Kids today could learn much from this man.
Not guitar though, he's shite.
Well, bass is more his forte.
Gilded Palace of Sin is one of the greatest records ever made.
SALUDOS DESDE ESPAÑA, TOLEDO, CASTILLA LA MANCHA. GREETING FROM TOLEDO, SPAIN. I AM AGRE WITH YOU. THAT IS ONE OF MY FAVE ALBUM, A MASTER PIECE.
It’s such a loss that the Byrds couldn’t record a full version of Mr Tambourine Man. I’d love to hear all verses in their wonderful arrangement.

Such talent!! Such a pleasure to have enjoyed your music; ( 65)! Thank you for all your hard work.
Love this show! I've watched the 2 with Roger, and now this one and it's great!
Saw him with Herb and Jorgensen about a year or so ago. He still has it. Byrds are still one of my faves.
Rik Shafer
John Jorgenson is a musical genius and nicest person.
I saw them too , one of my favorite concerts ever , what a trio , right after Tom's passing .

For sure for awhile anyway. Gram was 12 when his dad died and Chris 16. Then Gram's mom died of alcoholism when he was 18.
And then Gram sadly took his own life down the life. Such tragedies in a young person’s life. 😢
*down the line
Wow, he's still got his voice :)
Chris was Famous even in Germany and my friends in Arkansas asked me why I bought some records from Flying Buritto Brothers haha

Was watching this getting ready to type same thing. Imagine those 2 together today.
