I am just now embarking on creating a similar setup with M1 MacBook Pro as master and pc as slave. Did you make any progress? I’m struggling to understand how to manage all the connections I need (audio interface, midi keyboard, charging, Ethernet) with the limited 2 usb-c ports that the MacBook has. Im worried using multiple adaptors will make latency between things really bad. Am I missing something? How did you do it?
@@morganainsleymusic I am still not able to make it work I just using my Mac M1. I have the Caldijit Thunderbolt 4 Dock plus another small Dock plus two monitors all port are in use and 0 latency. What a great experience with Mac never comeback to Windows again. Thanks
A little confused about the cable hookup, the slave machine is hooked up via rj45 to a router fine what about the master machine? What is the master doing to access the slave is another rj45 involved?
hello i wanna ask what if my master computer is macbook pro m1 8gb ram and slave is my pc (i7 12700 64 gb) for the master, which onee do u prefer (mac/pc - asumming on that condition)

Vienna Ensemble Pro is the software that links the master computer to the slave computer and enables you to play samples on the slave computer thereby taking the strain of the master computer and allowing you to have larger tracks if needed.
I assume you have the VSL license(s) on the laptop host, but do you also need a license to run specifically the VSL plugin in the DAW on the piloting computer as well?
Is there a reason why a switch is needed and an ethernet cable can't simply be passed from the 10 gig port on my Mac to the 10 gig port on my PC? This is the bit that confuses me. Networking is a total noob area for me unfortunately. Also, it doesn't need internet access, right? Cause my house was built without a single ethernet port, it's all wi-fi, and the structure of the house made it too big a job to even add one port retrofit.
You need an ethernet (RJ45) port on your wireless router which then connects to your computer(s) via the ethernet cable. If you only have one ethernet port on your router, you would need an ethernet switch. Hope this helps.
@@BillMcFadden Well I am out then, I can not run an ethernet cable around the entire house from studio room to router downstairs. That's just the way this house was constructed and I don't live alone, if I did I would do it.
@@BillMcFadden I have had 2 electricians look at it, the job is huge, the house is on concrete slab and it's a big job to add ethernet ports upstairs. Anyway, it's not needed, you don't need internet at all, I have spoken to others since this. Since I am using only one slave, I can connect the Mac to the PC directly via ethernet cable and their in built ports, they are sitting right next to one another, and both have at *least* gigabit ethernet or higher, and I can continue to access internet via wi-fi. No problem at all. I have seen a video of someone doing exactly how I want to and it works perfectly, so I think you may be over complicating things. No ethernet switch, no connection to main router required, nada.
Excellent video, William. Thank you for sharing and showing all the steps in quite well detail, really appreciate it. What type of router are you using? Is that a specific brand/model? Thank you!
Bill Great video. I'm still trying to work out how the kontakt library pick up the signal from my DAW, do need to the have the software on both machines ? Or cubase on both machines ?. How do you send the Library, is it just to the slave ? and the directories just to the master ? ,bit confused myself Bill, please could shine a light for please. Hi Bill I did the setup using a switch and I got some pop and click from PC slave to MacBook Pro M1? Thank you very much for your tutorial.
Make sure your DAW buffer size is large enough.

Can the two computers be connected and accessed via internet from different locations? Tx
Not sure about that. You should contact support@vsl.co.at

Each machine has an rj45 socket which can go through rj45 hubs as well.
Yes, master computer needs to be also connected via RJ45 cable into switcher hub.

I'd use the mac for the master and the pc for the slave. You'll need the 64 gb to host your samples.

Yes, you need a license on the host and any slave computers as well.
How do you setup the Cubase audio I/O tracks to route a Kontakt multi setup with instruments sent to several output pairs in an instance of VEP?

Around a gigabit, or even ten gigabit depending on your hardware.
