- Splatoon 2 's Octo Expansion DLC is so so good and I am glad to have found a song to make an animated music video for Agent 8's story! I know everyone has moved on to Splatoon3 (me included), but I hope you will join me in reminiscing the good and the bad of Octo Expansion.

This is STUNNINGLY gorgeous, I adore the amount of movement you put into all this, and the sheer emotion displayed through the poses and timing here are POWERFUL.
this is so cool!! I'm a huge fan of the part in 1:06, the drums sounds like the train rattling and makes for super good immersion!

Coming back to this not even two weeks later because theres something just incredible about this that I don't think I fully expressed before and I don't think I even *can* express it properly but I can try.
Currently I am someone trying to understand what makes animation work, or even just splatoon animated to music, and this is undeniably a gorgeous work of art with so much time and care put into it and you can feel all the effort just from watching it. I've gone through a lot of frame-by-frame at this point. And it's super interesting to me because from my point of view and my biases, this isn't what I would consider a full 'polished' animation. It's sketchy, it's messy, you can still see some of the underlaying guidelines in the frames, you can even see some of the jank in the earlier scenes, and yet it's still so incredibly good. There's a full sense of weight and impact to every shot, the feelings and atmosphere still comes across well, the emotions told through facial expressions or body language are clear as day, and the story is easy to follow (granted I know the in-game story well but still)
not to mention the editing helps it read across so much better, blurring in and out on flashbacks, the rumble of the train scenes, even just panning up or down so the still scenes are flowing together naturally
and I guess in a way it's magical to me on how these kinds of animations are perfectly good and readable, even when characters are just a crumple of messy action lines, even when some objects are just vague shapes, you can still tell what is what, the story is still clear and meaningful and you can feel the nervousness, the surprise, the tension, the hopelessness, the confusion, the frustration, the determiniation, the joy.
this animation captures octo expansion so well.
and there's something about it that i just can't express into words.

THIS IS SO COOL.... gosh the vibes and pacing of everything is really inspiring I'm sure I'm gonna rewatch this one a lot!! huge fan of the transition out of the fight with agent 3 for the first time and the sense of weight and rhythm all the movements had SOSO cool

This is absolutely amazing! I love how it explores Eight's story from start to finish with emotion packed in every scene. The choreography is stunning, and the style is gorgeous. My only nitpick is that Eight has two more tentacles than normal, but even that is minor, and the rest is phenomenal! Great job!
