That is a statue of a woman who died in a car crash. People often leave little trinkets there, like hand-knitted gloves, in honor of her. Also, that "Ithaca is amusing" art is on the back of a store called "amuse". It is the best store I have been to, and the lady there is very nice. She is friends with my mother.
I was born and raised in Ithaca and I didn't know it was weird until I moved elsewhere. Then I was weird. I still am. I guess that it's hard to get over your up bringing.
Ithaca was great until 1974 when they put the Commons in then everyone went out of business except the State Theater and Schooley's Jewler's. Before the Commons was put in there were 5 different movie theaters, and a lot of great stores to shop at. You didn't have to drive so many blocks to get places but after the commons was put in Ithaca taxes went up and it was on the NBC national news that Ithaca, NY is the 2nd worst place to retire do to the cost of living and taxes. When McDonalds couldn't even last on the Commons you know something is wrong.
I worked at the McDonalds on the Commons one summer while I took some classes between my junior and senior year so that I could chill out a little bit senior year and still graduate. That would have been the summer of 1990.
I’m from ithaca! And my dads side of the family live there! I love ithaca! There’s nothing wrong with ithaca at all! It’s very beautiful and I love it there! ❤️😁
Ithaca is a cool place to live, I lived there in 2000 and miss it, it had a ton of beauty and the mall was hoppin back then, the commons was cool to . I hope to make it back there sometime soon.
I was born in Ithaca at Tompkins County Hospital in '54. My family was enormous. We pronounced Cayuga ... Cue-guh accent first syllable. Tuh-gan-ik accent on 2nd. I also lived in Waterloo...and, Cincinnatus. I don't remember anything 'weird' about it. This has gotta be a freshman project. I'd give it an F+.
I drove out here some years ago (more than 8 years ago) and being from Albany (live not born thank God), this place was great. I thought it had the best "small town" feel to it. People are weird everywhere but it's beautiful in the summer out here. Greyhound doesn't go there so it's still nice, NYC hasn't dumped it's garbage there so much if at all. I doubt they let Amtrak there,, good idea!!!
I used to live there. I hate all the gentrification happening. And the commons is amazing. I can walk anywhere it’s so small. And Everybody knows everybody. The first living girl you interviewed, Ik her. Idk how but Ik her. You should’ve done this sooner and interviewed Mr.E, or gone to south side and interviewed people at GIAC, and ms. Nina
I love your video, I am visiting Ithaca from South Florida with the fam for vacation. I'm a jazz musician middle school reading teacher. Do you like Ithaca?
Ithaca doesn't look that bad, I was born there but never got to experience it due to moving at a very young age. I live in Portland oregon and let me tell you...that shit is weird. Men wearing fishnet clothes and 6 inch stripper heels on the city bus is the norm. Then again, they wear or be however they want.
I grew up in Ithaca. Even in the 1980’s there were social justice warriors who would newspeak you to frustration. If you are a Christian, or conservative, you will tire of Ithaca quickly. Don’t you dare open your mouth about anything, anything middle America would approve of or you will “trigger” them. Un-diverse diversity in thought, drink the hipster cool aid or be excoriated. Virtue signaling is more important than virtue, Ithaca is a window to a world where adults can kick responsibly down the road, and remain as adolescents. In their pursuit of “equal outcomes” as opposed to equality, they get to escape realities such as good and evil, because they refuse to accept either exists; case in point they cannot tell you if incest, beastiality, and pedophilia is good or bad because to them “it’s like, your opinion if it’s bad”. Also note, in 2016 a man was murdered in broad daylight, in Ithaca, NY for *Looking Similar* to President Donald J. Trump. Ithaca people can get triggered to violence for a wrong word, a stray thought, or simply looking like someone they collectively despise.
What do you mean by "If you are a Christian, or conservative, you will tire of Ithaca quickly." I am a Christian and I've lived in Ithaca my whole life and I love it.
William Schumacher didn't look anything like Donald Trump. He also wasn't murdered in broad daylight. He was randomly and tragically murdered by a deeply disturbed man on drugs in the middle of the night. The whole Trump part of it was Justin Barkley's attempt to rationalize his fears that the government was after him in some way.
@@pineapples1922 Ithaca is so “liberal”, so left leaning, it has a “Portland” kind of Vibe. The Commons used to be so beautiful- and now you have homeless living there shooting up right on the street.
I would say its welcoming as long as you are a progressive who is willing to enforce what pronouns you want to be called. For the rest of America and the world, forget it.
I moved to Ithaca from a very conservative county in Asia, I say, Ithaca is awesome and conservative sucks. Conservative values are what 3rd world country government mentality is like, ie zero responsibility to the people and corrupted by millionaire lobbyists. Basically, I doubt you know what the rest of the world is like. In fact, when people travel more, the less conservative they become.
21 yrs and I loved every minute barring the times I got ripped off for drugs OR ordering vegetarian food delivery and getting a BUNCH AHH DEAD ANIMALS all over it. OR When a woman left me for another woman that had recently left me for said woman...and thats not the worst part; running into one or both of them at the only local co op, often ... "What's the weirdest thing you've seen in Ithaca?"
Me: YES
