    IH definitely made a statement with this tractor. It went something like THIS IS WHAT #1 LOOKS LIKE. I still think it’s the coolest tractor ever built.

      Is it any cooler looking than a V8 Oliver? The Oliver Air cleaner was pretty neat. They are both decent tractors, equipped with colossal boat anchors for engines. The Massey was hot wet garbage in every respect.

      @@randymagnum143 haven’t seen the Oliver & I didn’t even know Massy made a V8. Lots of people didn’t like the IH , but it made a statement, plus all that chrome .

    I was 14 years old when I got to drive a 1468 for the first time!! 1976 2nd time I drove it there was a 5 bottom plow behind IT ❤😊😊😊😊😊

    I have a 1973 Buyer's Guide since 1973. I thought the 1468 on the back cover was one of the coolest tractors I'd ever seen. I still do even though I'm an Oliver-built Cockshutt guy. Those twin heat shield stacks and manifold covers just rocked.

    Had one, with 23.4 x 34s + duals, the deluxe cab, and chrome everything. Gave me fond memories of a very cool beast. Hi and low range + reverse with a syncromesh 4 speed shift that would let it run up to 30 mph at full roar. Amused onlookers to see it go through 4 gears in reverse. Torque amplifiers were a weak point in that whole tractor series so we tried to avoid using the T/A under load. I think most ended up repowered with the 6 cylinder from the 1466 since the V8 wasn't a big success.

    Great videos! 5 stars. I have a 1468 and it is a monster to run, I love useing it. I have some videos of it chopping corn and hopfully i'll get some cultivating videos up real soon. There is no other engine out there that sounds as nice as that old DV550.

    I'm an Oliver/White guy by nature, and the 2255 is my choice in the V8 muscle tractors. That said, I have to admit, and without any grudge, that the 1468/1568 tractors had the coolness factor down pat, and they OWNED the V8 tractor image.
    The 1150/1155/2255/2-180 tractors just didn't have the 'Prestige', as IH put it in their sales literature, of the 1468/1568 models. The dual chrome stacks and the chrome manifold heat guards just totally set them off and set them apart.

    We all know a well tuned 1466 will out pull a '68, BUT! The DV550-1468 has a way better COOL factor that has never been matched. Great video by the way!

      All depends? 1466 &1468 were factory built units. Any corncob with a stick welder and an old bus engine can make a V8 anything.

    I love the 1468's and would love to get one. I have never seen one in my area. We have a Loadstar 1850 with the DV 550. Nothing sounds like them.

    Beautiful machine, you know as you mention it it does look like a "ROD" a Farm Rod with the big engine and the chrome exhaust stacks, NICE! So how'd it do in the field?

    • @davidphillips4061
      @davidphillips4061 3 года назад

      Terrible, no torque. You drop below 1800 and you'll be grabbing the gear shift and hitting the clutch. I had a 1568 bigger reared and axles rated at 161 hp. But a 1066 would out pull it. Should have put twin turbochargers on it. I think the 10 had more torque because of a longer stroke.

    Clay Smith, they did poorly in the field with a really bad reputation for blowing pistons.
    lego man, the 1155 was rated at around 140 HP.

    The image at 0:48 is interesting - a 1468 with Front Wheel Assist (Coleman Axle option) and at 1:00 a "Turbo" decal on the hood. IH never built a Turbocharged version. There was apparently a brochure with a photo of the 1468 fitted with a 1466 (Turbo 6 cylinder) hood.- prototype perhaps - it still causes arguments about this tractor.

    DV550 looked good. Sounded good. But ultimately performed bad. Funny how a tractor can come out, everyone gets excited about it. Until they take them home and experience problems. Then the tractor gets a bad reputation and sales plummet. Skip forward 30 years, everyone loves it again, thinks they’re awesome, and will pay a premium for one.
