    What was UCLA’s middle doing at 9:18? It looked like he was screening his setter?

      Yes exactly that, its so the opponent's middle hopefully gets confused and gets late to the block.
      I don't think this tactic has a name, but if the middles have time they usually do it.

      @@JosemariaCarrascoMolina screening is the correct name, that's how it's labeled in the rulebook, sometimes the middles will throw their hands up too, anything to distract the block!

      @@DonFranciscoUSF Yup thats the name... I always wondered if during your teams serve, can your own backrow teammates screen the opponent?

      @DonFranciscoUSF 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@JosemariaCarrascoMolina depends on where you’re playing. In the FIVB rulebook it’s illegal to screen both the server AND the path of the ball, so if your front row is standing in front of where the server is they can’t just serve directly over the wall of people. I’m not sure of the specific rules in the NCAA, or how strictly it’s enforced, even in FIVB, I’ve never seen a ref call a point for screening, and it seems like a pretty subjective ruling to make.
