In the FIVB rulebook it’s illegal to screen both the server AND the path of the ball, so if your front row is standing in front of where the server is they can’t just serve directly over the wall of people. I’m not sure of the specific rules in the NCAA, or how strictly it’s enforced, even in FIVB, I’ve never seen a ref call a point for screening, and it seems like a pretty subjective ruling to make.
