  • At one of the country’s greatest World War Two airbases, a team of dedicated engineers is working round the clock to return Britain’s most iconic aircraft to the skies.
In this six part series, we follow Spitfire Factory owner Peter Monk and his team of restoration experts as they bolt, rivet and hammer a 70-year-old Spitfire back to flying condition. With £2 million pounds on the line, and a looming deadline on the horizon, there’s no room for error. As the restoration progresses, we discover the surprising and fascinating history of this World War II icon. Through veterans, pilots, historians, experts and enthusiasts, we uncover the story that turned an aeroplane into a legend.

So proud of my Mum. What a woman!

Your Mum was amazing, downplaying her part maintaining combat aircraft during WW2. She reminded me of my Mum who passed away Dec 17th 2011. She was born 7th August 1929. I’m really surprised this heartfelt video of your Mum has hardly any views, when RUclips recommends so much rubbish to watch nowadays.

Thank you. It is so sad that we are losing so many of these amazing women. There can be so few left of those who maintained these aircraft during those years.

Australian engineer/pilot,........Winston Churchill ,paid tribute to the FEW,........I salute the Girls ,.....it takes conviction & courage ,duty to country to do what these women did..... Total War for years on end alone , without the world to support them , they rose higher than another to ensure the few could hold on.......for if the few failed the whole country would befall an eternal fate worse than living....... Nazism.............We owe these women a debt ,........... Equality ..sad thoughts we still owe that debt today & men are struggling to accept that.............Forget your history at your peril.
