Thank you for a Great Presentation. Here are my takeaways: 1. Consult a licensed and registered Architect at the initial stage of the Project. He / She will be able to give a loose estimate based on the Project requirements and materials available. 2. Projects may require a Structural Engineer, Mechanical Engineer (A/C), Plumbing Engineer to complete the design. Once the design is completed, it is submitted to the Parish Council for approval (30 to 60 days). Once approved, the Quantity Surveyor's documents are then sent to multiple Building Contractors to be bidded on. 3. Understand the Pricing methodologies used. 4. Ensure the Quantity Surveyor's Report (Topographical and ID) are indeed correct, especially in terms of scale, whilst submitting to the Architect.
This video is over 2 years old but still very relevant. I recently re-watched this video since we are now in this phase of our project. We were referred to an architect thru "word of mouth". Had I watched this video prior to this recent meeting, I would have immediately rejected this offer. Thank GOD for intuition. Something just wasn't right, and watching this again confirmed my suspicions. Thanks so much!
I'm a young woman here in the United States saving money to put myself through Architecture school. I am already in the homebuilding trade and helped build a 6 floor hotel 2 years ago. I want to open some grocery stores and help build new critical infrastructure for Jamaica's Black population because I can see that the Arabs, South Asians, Chinese and other groups are going to be an ongoing problem. I want to network with this man, he sounds competent and knowledgeable.
All the best with your future endeavours Alex... Hugo Matthews is a very skilful expert. Please email us at info@homeandawayjamaica.com so we can connect you to him.

I'm 17 and my dream is to also be an architect but in addition, I would love to have my own place at an early age which is why I'm doing my research from now glad to say this was a very informative video.

Another great and informative video. However, Hugo still "dodge" the question on what are the costs/fees for utilizing his architectural services or an architecture period. You should also consider those that are 'not' new to buying, selling, building or managing real estate property, including architectural drawings, land development and home construction. For example, let's say I have property in say a 'rural' area; and the property has a couple of acres. The property has a habitual structure with mechanicals including hvac, electrical and plumbing; but I have utilized technology to create a rough design idea of modifications and expansions to this structure. I would want utilize the services of the professionals to gain insight; this includes a realtor, architecture, structural engineers and mechanical engineers (hvac, elect, plumb) to ensure that proposed expansion is viable, logical and practical as well as positive chances of being approved. Your thoughts.
Hugo is very open and realistic in providing a estimated costs. We actually went through the same with a member of the diaspora this week. You can arrange a consultation and he’ll be able to guide further as well as discuss the viability of your proposed plans. You can also email us at info@homeandawayjamaica.com
Thanks for the email info... I will get my questions together and contact you. Thanks again. This is a very very welcomed service you are providing. Keep up the great work
It’s a pleasure thank you. Having left the London rat race to pursue a quality life in JA has been a rewarding and fulfilling journey. It now fuels my passion to assist others in doing the same. Michele
on average architects fees can range from 4-6% of the estimated cost of construction. however it may go as high as 10% or as low as 2% depending on the size scale and complexity of the project.
@@homeandawayjamaica Good morning to you sir, how much is for consultation fee for building a two bedroom house?I would really appreciate your your answer.
If house is too big for the land it is not the fault of the person who draw the plan only, but much of the blame should be on the Parish council who approved the drawings as well, and as it relates to using a register architects do your design, I have seen complete sets of building plan that is poorly done by architects also with very poor engineering details.
The first question from the attorney could be seen as illegal in the US , you can't stere a client base on "good area or bad area " I'm sure it happens on the low down but you can't just say go to this area because this or that area is bad.
