Christmas markets themselves could only be held in the Middle Ages by cities with such a right, such as Vienna, the capital of the Austria-Hungarian Empire, which is unfortunate for Bratislava, because it immediately led and it's a small town. Simply written, certain types of celebrations or markets were granted to cities by the church and monarchs as prerogatives, but this does not mean that there is no special trade focused on certain holidays, carried out and celebrated by the Germans, who settled large parts of the Slovak territory from the 12th century, mainly because of the obliterated population after the invasion of the Tatars.
