I remember staying up to watch this, I was so excited! You didn't see Moz at all on US television at the time, so it was a major event for American Moz fans!

Morrissey is the only living man (other than myself) who I would trust to choose my daily attire for me.

Amazing fans yelling in the studio and this is not the usual American on command.. love to immagine this hysteria is for him being so unique in singing and writing real life in a poetical way

Morrissey and Whyte were the best writing partnership since Marr - and Boz chucked a few masterpieces in as well, such as 'the more you ignore me..' best line up - Bridgewood as well. Mozambique

Moz oozes sensuality when he sings. So poetic and musical.

This was him at the pinnacle of his career and from his best album 'Your Arsenal' in my humble opinion.

Pinnacle? seriously? he was just getting started! i'd take everything he's done in the past decade over his 90's stuff anyday

If you were a Morrissey fan in the early 90's, you know just what a big deal this was. I was at the Hollywood Bowl show in 1992, and when he played there again 15 years later it was great to be back. Moz even acknowledged the 15 year span since the last show at that venue.

I was at that concert too! Looking forward to seeing him again 25 years later! Luckily I can buy better seats now that I'm not a struggling college student.

I knew who he was back then but didn't listen to his music, I was into metal music back then. I remember my friend showing off his Morrissey vinyl collection and I was unintersted. I also remember he was coming down to San Diego. My attitude back then was "Who is this guy?" Then a few years later the local alternative station was playing This Charming Man and I got hooked after that.

Thank you so much for posting this (edited nicely, too). I completely forgot this happened. It was an amazing time to be a Moz fan in the early '90's. I am so grateful I witnessed that, but never knew why he just didn't explode here in the States like he should have. Praise RUclips - my memories return!

I heard that the song was about Lee Thompson (the saxophonist in the group 'Madness') who was chubby. However, the reference to Battersea might suggest a dog, as in 'Battersea Dogs Home'.

A year earlier, Morrissey performed on the Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was still host; last year, he returned, now in the hands of Jimmy Fallon (Moz never did the short-lived Conan O'Brien run).

Morrissey really misses Alain Whyte for his songwriting and fantastic backing vocals, painful to admit but morrissey has gone down hill since Alain Whyte's departure. What a shame!! - Mozambique was just miss spell!

  • @michaelmcguire2121

Jay seemed more appreciative of Morrissey's fans, even though all of the other guests and he were irrelevant in their eyes. Compare this with Johnny's and Cosby's perplexity and, dare I say, jealousy of the intensity Morrissey fans had for their idol.

I used to think Moz started to fill out slightly in 92, but he seems very thin here, so I’ll say it was more 94-5 with the booze. Even Boz is thin here
